Good for the Moose. Taking the high road instead of chasing the coin. I think he will get a lot of HOF votes and should eventually go in. There has to be a place for guys who were good to great for a long time. 18 yr career, 11 times he won 15 or more games, 11 times had an ERA under 4 during the steroid era, 2800K, 270 wins, 3.63 career ERA. Those numbers in this day and age should get him into the hall.

I wonder how much Sabathia would really improve on 20-9, 3.37 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 200.3 IP, 150 K/31 BB

Obviously he'll strike out a significant amount more guys than Mussina and probably pitch more innings (although I expect that to catch up with the big fella sooner rather than later)

He'll improve on it. Since 2006, he has posted ERAs of 3.22, 3.21 and 2.70, and WHIPs of 1.17, 1.14 and 1.11. And he'll get more strikeouts.

I agree. Over the course of years, this won't be a big loss. For one year, this is a HUGE loss. However, if we sign CC, I'd consider us right back where we were before Moose retired. Over the course of next season, CC won't do better than Moose did, and will probably do worse. Right now, our team looks worse than it did last year.

Of course...we've only just begun free agency.

Sabathia will give more innings and likely have a lower WHIP and a higher K rate. That being said, if he comes here and wins 20 games and throws over 200IP, I think I'd be jumping for joy. But it isnt just about replacing Moose. Remember, we should have Wang coming back at 100% from his freak foot injury. You put CC and Wang together and you have two guys who consistently get into the 7th inning on a regular basis. Big relief to our solid pen, it allows them to be even better with less strain. If you re-up Pettitte, then you probably get something similar to last yr in that respect. So a healthy Wang and Sabathia is a massive improvement over how our team finished last yr. Then if you nab Burnett, you get a guy who's history has shown he'll start 25 games at least per yr. That surpasses the starts by Ponson and Rasner. And Joba finishing out the rotation, well, we saw how absolutely dominant he could be in the rotation. Thats one hell of a top 5.

Anyone to retire after a 20 win season is a complete imbecile. My estimation of Stanford has gone down. My prediction is that Moose, who is a miserable prick of a person, will be divorced within a year. His wife will not be able to stand having him around 12 mos of the year. He will then attempt a comeback. It is reminiscent to me of Ryan Sandberg when he retired to spend more time with his family. His wife filed for divorce three weeks later, and the following year Sandberg was begging for his job. He took a pay cut from $7 million to $1 million. A player who walks away from the game while he is still highly marketable is an idiot. That's just my opinion.

You put CC and Wang together and you have....

Well, if it WERE possible to put them together, what would ya get? Let's see how this flies:

(a) One fat-assed asian

(B) a sudden decline in the feral cat population in the Bronx

© a world champion sumo wrestler

(d) the proprietor of a new chain of fast food restaurants...Kentucky Fried Dog

(e) none of the above

Yes, you may think I am going to hell for this, I know it. Actually, I really value diversity...I just have trouble passing on openings for a joke, so sorry if I offended anyone.

This was the funniest s*** I've heard in weeks. My stomach hurts from laughing so hard...

Only thing that scares me about CC is, BMS also gets to pitchers....... so after 3 seasons, it might all go downhill......

And btw, good one, Rician.......i lol'd :D

I'll admit Sabathia and Wang is a hell of a 1-2....until you get to the playoffs

You still buy this playoff ********? Where was it for Beckett? Ortiz? Lester? They got beat by a team that had no one on it's starting team that had an inkling of post-season success.

He pitched as well as he could down the stretch. Good enough for me. He couldn't have done any worse than Beckett did in the post-season this year.

My point is that you have to take post-season success or failure, especially if it is in limited action, with a grain of salt.

Well let him strain his oblique and have a try at it then, i assure you the results will not be pretty.

Sabathia's subpar performance in the NLDS this year means nothing. The man was gassed. You would be, too. How many consecutive starts did he have on 3 days rest? How many times did he go the distance? 7 complete games for the Brewers. Most in the league. 3 additional complete games for the Guardians. He single-handedly carried the Brewers for about 2 months.

Beckett was injured and pitched a heroic Game 6 with a torn f***ing oblique. Ortiz wasn't right all year and Lester was great aside for one start.

And yea, they got beat by a team without any post-season success, or post-season experience.

Sabathia and Wang actually have post-season experience, and both have sucked horribly.

Fine, explain his 2007 post-season failures then

I don't think you can strain fat.

Heroic? Did he save a baby from a burning building. Let's step off his johnson for a minute, and call it what it was- he sucked this year.

I voiced concerns earlier about Sabathia's postseason numbers, but like A-Rod, you need regular season success to get there. If it means 215 innings and 20 wins, I'll take my chances with him in the playoffs.

This was some funny s***.

Bosox21...it went from nothing, to a strained oblique...to a torn one...to saving a baby from a burning building.

Next thing we know, he stopped a terrorst attack on Fenway, killed all the bad guys, rescued the baby [and her gorgeous mother] from a burning building, and raced in to try to save the pennant for the Red Sox.

I'm really loving this...

I think your time would be better suited teaching Wang how to run the bases...

Or getting Sabathia banned from every fast-food restaurant in NYC....

And also put a lifetime membership to Gold's Gym in his contract.......Lord knows he needs it....
