As far as I'm concerned, those last drops are probably worth it at this point. If Manny stays, he'll get booed, and then he'll point, and then he'll bench himself and walk out grounders.

Welcome back by the way. It's been a while.

Thanks.

I totally agree. It's not like they're going to empty the farm to include prospects, and money is only money - Bay is a nice return, and probably about as close to "equal" value that you're going to find a this point. Better to get someone who plays hard than someone who will sit out games down the stretch. The East (and WC) is looking like a few games will decide it.

Manny said he was not going to play in Boston anymore. They have to deal him

No we don't, we still have him under our control for the next 2 years ;)

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal has joined ESPN's Jayson Stark in saying that the three-team Manny Ramirez deal is "dead."

Rosenthal's source is an executive with one of the teams. The three-team trade had Manny Ramirez going to Florda, Jason Bay to Boston and Jeremy Hermida to Pittsburgh. John Grabow also likely would have changed hands somehow. It's unclear whether the Pirates' demands for prospects or the Marlins' quest for cash killed it. For what it's worth, Ramirez also denied that he had approved a trade to Florida.

A dsigruntled Manny for 2 months and then thats it. So long, farewell, au veidisein, goobye to migraine filled Manny trade rumors!!

I've heard him say he's tired of the FO and I've heard him say the Sox don't deserve a player like him. I have yet to hear him say he won't play in Boston anymore.

lol

By now this is a deal that has to get done. If Manny is acting like this now (taking strikes down the middle, jogging on the baselines, taking himself out of big games, talking s*** about management to reporters)... who says that will stop anytime soon?

Curious - when did he take three strikes down the middle?

Manny has been raking since the all-star break, he isnt just going to stop hitting. He wants a big contract next season.

lol, I love how youre trying to bait him to say the Rivera at-bat by adding the word three when all he said was "taking strikes down the middle"

I assumed this was the AB in question...I ask, where were the "strikes down the middle"?

EVERY MLB BATTER takes one or two pitches down the middle.

the strikes weren't down the middle but I don't think that was his point. he pretty much threw that at-bat and anyone who has seen even a bit of Manny and knows his ability to see the ball knows he threw that at-bat

I think Manny deserves backlash as much as the next guy...but do you REALLY think he threw the at bat?

Rosenthal and Stark are now reporting that the 3 way deal is dead. Manny looks to be staying in Boston

thanks for breaking that one, Mr. Olney....

ESPN's Peter Gammons reports that the Marlins wanted an extra $2 million from the Red Sox above and beyond what Manny Ramirez was owed in order to complete a deal.

That's an especially absurd thought given that the Marlins are likely to take in more on revenue sharing alone this year than they're spending on payroll. If Ramirez is traded now, it might be to the Dodgers.

right, but with Manny making his comments and insinuating that he'd never play with the sox again, coupled with the fact that the Marlins are trying to bilk the sox out of more money and the Pirates are trying to get a ridiculous amount for Bay, and the sox are in trouble. The Dodgers now are the only team in this thing with 58 minutes to go.

This Dodger management group has clearly shown preference for veteran players over their own system's products. Kemp put up a high .800 OPS last year in half a season, and they still went out and signed Jones to that horrible contract. Speaking of which, they are reportedly not looking to take on extra salary and are interested in shedding some off their own books.

To this I say, offer to take Jones off their hands as a condition to trading Kemp, use him as a backup OF for the remainder of this season, and tell him he's got the offseason to right himself or he'll get cut.

The $18M he's owed will be sunk cost if he shows up still eff'ed up, but I think that's well worth the cost of acquiring control of Kemp for the next 4 years. I think Kemp is a stud on the rise.

there's no such thing as a dead deal unless its 4PM

And even then, since Theo cheats (according to some yankee fans), he could probably just call up Bud Selig and get the Red Sox an extension.

Bay to the Rays

I figured they'd sweep in. Here's the article:

With the three-way deal between the Pirates, Red Sox, and Marlins falling through, an MLB.com source says that the Rays are going to acquire right-handed hitting outfielder Jason Bay for Minor League prospects including shortstop Reid Brignac and right-hander Jeff Niemann. The Rays have not confirmed the deal.

Per bill chastain (i don't know who he is)

This is craziness. Those of you who wanted Manny to stick around may get your wish. Unfortunately that means that the Sox will more than likely have to part with actual VALUED talent to get the LF of their future instead of getting rid of the guy they wanted to get rid of in Manny.

Damn!
