Trade report blog: Manny approves deal to Marlins

12:19 p.m.

Embattled superstar Manny Ramirez has approved a trade to the Marlins, SI.com has learned. While the Red Sox, Marlins and Pirates are still negotiating details of the mega-trade and nothing has been finalized by the teams, one major hurdle has been cleared by Ramirez accepting the deal ahead of time, according to people familiar with the negotiations. The Red Sox approached Ramirez in advance of their negotiations, and got his OK. Ramirez signed off on the paperwork, contingent upon the two $20-million team options for 2009 and '10 being dropped. The move will set the stage for Ramirez to become a free agent this winter, assuming a trade can be completed by the three teams.

11:29am CT: Will Carroll has an update. The Pirates could back out Bay talks entirely if they don't get what they want. The Red Sox will continue shopping Manny regardless, with the Dodgers and a mystery team in the mix. The Dodgers might be willing to part with Matt Kemp.

wonder who the "mystery team" is

I wouldn't be surprise to see Manny in pinstripes next year ' date=' reason being , the yanks would be the only team giving him the money he wants or close to it[/quote']

Manny isn't coming to the Yankees next year. I wouldn't count on that. The Mets perhaps, but probably not the Yankees.

The Reds perhaps with Adam Dunn? Or the fantasy being the Rockies to acquire Matt Holliday B)

I wish it was the Rox

To Bos: Holliday and Fuentes? maybe another pitcher

To Col: Stanton, Tucker, Hermida, Bowden and Place

To Fla: Manny and a sox prospect like Hunter Jones

Some commentary from Olney, on ESPN: "If he's not traded by 4 p.m. today, there's a 1 percent chance that he finishes the year with the Red Sox. This has gotten so ugly," said Olney, referencing Ramirez's recent trade demands and lackadiasical play.

but

"It sounds like things are taking off and Pittsburgh is getting what they are looking for," said an executive who has been in contact with the clubs involved.

ESPN's Peter Gammons says the three-way negotiations between the Red Sox, Marlins and Pirates are close to dead.

That according to a source close to the negotiations. FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal seems to think they're still very much on. SI.com's Jon Heyman says Ramirez has already approved a trade to the Marlins should the Red Sox complete one. If the deal is off, it's likely because the Pirates demanded too much in return for Jason Bay. There have been reports of the Red Sox trying to work with a different third team, but that figures to be tough to accomplish before 4 p.m. They still might be able to send him to the Dodgers for Matt Kemp if they want to go in that direction.

omg please put me in cryogenic stasis until something actually happens, migraines aplenty right now

And if they are able to get Matt Kemp for Manny... hell yea

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pirates have agreed to the prospects they'd receive in a Manny Ramirez-Jason Bay-Jeremy Hermida deal.

according to Gordan Edes, whats holding up the deal is the pirates part, and while most people in the sox organization would take hermida, stanton and tucker for manny, without the bay part, but apparently John f***ing Henry wants to get Bay in any Manny deal

im afraid the sox are going to overpay big time just to get rid of manny, all the teams involved know that they can screw the sox because manny has to go.

Tell the Pirates to go screw and take Hermida

I didn't even bother to read that. Damnit Curt Schilling' date=' just f***ing retire and go make some video games already. We all had enough of your opinion from 2004-2007.[/quote']

Well IMO you should read what he said because it's on the money, without any petty B.S.

From what I heard on EEI' date=' its the rest of Manny's salary PLUS $9 million[/quote']

Well then that's just them taking advantage of Manny poisoning the well.

That's how it's gonna be - everyone knows the Sox want to unload him, so they're going to squeeze them for every last drop.

As far as I'm concerned, those last drops are probably worth it at this point. If Manny stays, he'll get booed, and then he'll point, and then he'll bench himself and walk out grounders.

Welcome back by the way. It's been a while.

lol

ESPN's Jayson Stark said an official with one of the clubs said the three-team Red Sox-Marlins-Pirates deal is dead.

According to Stark's source: "The Pirates are blaming the Marlins. The Marlins are blaming the Pirates. And the Red Sox aren't too happy with either of them." We fully expect another update five minutes from now saying a deal is nearly done.

By now this is a deal that has to get done. If Manny is acting like this now (taking strikes down the middle, jogging on the baselines, taking himself out of big games, talking s*** about management to reporters)... who says that will stop anytime soon?

according to jayson stark, the rays, blue jays and cardinals are the only teams in on jason bay and there is no chance he ends up in boston
