Bowden's stock has gone up a lot this year, but i think that the Rox will insist on Bucholz or Masterson in return for any deal involving Holliday, especially if Fuentes is involved to.

This coming from the guy who's boasted about pitchers such as Rasner, Clippard, Igawa, etc.?

Bowden is the best pitching prospect in the Red Sox organization, even Rosenthal said yesterday that his name is quickly rising through the ranks

Theo Epstein told Tim McCarver he'd try to trade Manny Ramirez if he'd waive his 10-and-5 no-trade rights. If Ramirez were to be dealt, I'm guessing he'd either require an extension or reassurance that his $20MM option would not be picked up so he could reach free agency. Here's some reverb from Epstein's remarks:

Jon Heyman says the Mets have no interest in Manny. His string of bad behavior this year has been undoubtedly a turnoff. They'd rather pursue Raul Ibanez.

The Boston Herald's Tony Masarotti doesn't think the team needs "to find a Hall of Fame-caliber player to replace him anymore because Ramirez no longer is a Hall of Fame-caliber player." He even cites David Murphy as a more productive outfielder since April.

Joel Sherman and Mike Puma speculate on Manny to the Phillies, noting how Charlie Manuel and Ramirez have remained close since Manuel was his hitting coach in Cleveland. They go on to list Arizona as having interest as well.

I dont see the Dbacks making a big push, they dont seem like a team that would go after Manny.

The Phillies on the other hand, imagine that lineup + Manny?

I think you might be overstating Bowden a bit

How do you figure?

He is 2 years younger than Buchholz and over a year younger than Masterson. Bowden has three MLB caliber pitches and all with excellent command (possibly the best command of the 3). I'm torn which player I'd be willing to give up but my feelings would be the Rockies would ask for Bowden. If they wanted Buchholz over Bowden I wouldn't dismiss that request (same goes with Masterson).

I'd be willing to give up 1 of the 3 to gain the services of one of the best hitters in the league and a couple years away from 30. You can't ask for a much better replacement for Manny and the pitcher we give up would be going to the NL West, can't get much further away than that.

I can imagine it would be hard to get Atlanta and Philadelphia involved in a 3-team deal since they are in the same division.

yea, its gonna be really hard to move Manny within the next 4 days. Especially if the Phillies are the only team. Id love for the Dbacks to try and get involved in this. They have a lot of people id be interested in return for Manny.

Possibly for Jason Bay

Red Sox - Jason Bay, J.C. Romero

Phillies - Manny Ramirez

Pirates - Ryan Kalish, Daniel Bard, J.A. Happ

We had J.C. Romero once already, and I for one was glad to see him go. There's no need to get him back.

Cardenas was already traded for Blanton.

No doubt. He can't cut it in the AL. We do not need him.

He wasn't great when he was with us but he really wasn't all that bad either.

Rudy Seanez is also doing well for the Phillies. We had him twice. When he came into game, I used to turn off the TV. He was IMO the equivalent of a forfeit.

Those were some bad times. He was horrendus. After seeing how bad he was in Boston, it's tough to fathom how he could be anything more than a AAA player and yet he is pitching well for Philly. Remember Joel Pineiro? He couldn't even cut it as a long reliever and he's actually gone to St. Louis and had some pretty quality starts the last year or so. All my Cardinals friends have repeatedly asked me why we dumped him. Pure ignorance.

On a crappy pitchers in the AL note Mike Timlin could probably go to the NL and be a good setup man. I mean, if Romero and especially Seanez can...

The Phillies win big in this deal. There's no way the Red Sox would pull the trigger on that trade.

Rotoworld -

Manny Ramirez reportedly told ESPNDeportes.com that he's open to a trade if the Red Sox wish to move him. He didn't make it sound as though he's requesting one. "I don't want to be a problem and a distraction to the Red Sox in such a critical moment of the season," he said. "I want to help the team, even if that means I have to go." Ramirez also indicated that he didn't have any specific teams to which the Red Sox couldn't trade him. "I don't have any preferences: I could choose a team that offers me the best conditions or one in the chase for the postseason. I don't care where I play, I can even play in Iraq if need be. My job is to play baseball," he said. Jul. 27 - 4:55 pm et

Did Manny say these words in Spanish?

These have got to be Manny's best sound bites ever...I've never heard him speak so eloquently, but I follow MLB in English and this was a Spanish-language site.

I'm against getting rid of him completely, however it's best to keep my opinion to myself. I LOVE Manny so it's obviously going to be biased, but I'd be very upset if we got rid of him. I think he's been instrumental to our recent success.

I do to but I think it's better to get somthing better and younger out of him while we can.

some more quotes

Manny Ramirez spoke with reporters on Sunday and confirmed that he is open to a trade.

"What I said was if the Red Sox they think they could find a trade that's going to make the team better and both sides are going to be happy, I'm going to agree," he said. "But if they cannot find a trade... It's something simple. It's no big deal. At the end of the season, all they've got to do is call my agent and say, 'Hey, we're not going to pick Manny's option for '09, he's going to become a free agent. And that's it. I go my way, and you guys go your way, something simple." Ramirez sounded like he didn't think he'd be back in 2009 regardless. "I don't want to talk to them about contracts right now. So what? I know they got me, but enough is enough. I'm tired of them, they're tired of me. After 2008, just send me a letter or whatever. You don't even got to call my agent or whatever. 'Hey, thank you for everything. You're going to become a free agent. We're not going to pick up your option in '09.'

"Boston's not stupid ... when it comes to making a deal, they're not going to pull the trigger.''

maybe he should really goto Iraq and play there

I use to say that about Manny, but its really getting ridiculous now. Its so annoying listen to him and watching his antics. Why have him if he hates being here and the front office doesnt like him. Theres no way in hell he is back next year either. We can win without him

I hate Youk so i wouldnt mind seeing him go at the right price. All he does is complain and whine. He is a great hitter but i cant stand watching him at times. If Texiera and Youk had the same contract for the next 3 years, I would deal Youk for Tex in a heartbeat.
