I highly doubt Manny knows which team he plays for at this point. All you have to do is have Girardi don a Francona mask, and he'll come play for the Yankees.

Manny will not play for the Yankees in 2009.

Considering that he's said he'd like to finish his career in NY [he also said that about Boston], I'd guess that the Yankees would probably be his second choice. It's a silly argument, as the Red Sox hold all the cards, and considering the market, it won't really be a bad deal to give him a one year extension and then let him walk. It's like the Yankees and Abreu, just with a much better hitter in Manny.

If Manny's option isn't picked up, he could end up with the Yankees. I think that's the threat he's making.

My take is that Manny picked up Boras to say just that. Boras clients always go to free agency when they have a chance (even if they don't want to, apparently). Boras clients also tend to sign the biggest paycheck, which the Yankees might put out there. It puts pressure on Boston to pick up the option.

Honestly I don't think he'd come here anyway. I don't see him fitting in that clubhouse. It would be interesting to see him go on the market, and watch Hank play 'The Boss' and go after him, while Hal does the smart thing and lets him go elsewhere.

So' date=' then you would have 3 leftfielders making roughly $48 milion, or he could share DH with Giambi.[/quote']

You think he'd sign for 13 million? It would take about 4-6 million for a season of Bonds at this point. Just my opinion.

I was talking about Manny. The Yanks will not get him for $13 million. It would take more like $18 - 20 million. Add that to the $13 and $14 million that Damon and Godzilla make and you would be spending $47 million on 3 LF's over age 35.

Guys, think about this. If Manny plays well and stays healthy, he stays a Sock. If he has another off yr or an injury prone yr, he will be a FA. So, hence, if he comes to NY it will be after a second consecutive off yr for him. So no, I want nothing to do with Manny.

The guy I want is Tex. I dont think we have the replacement in the minors for 1b in the near future (Miranda is more of a DH) while we are loaded with OF prospects who will be ready come 09 (Jackson, Tabata, and to a lesser extent, Gardner) and we dont have an open OF slot unless we move Manny to RF (fat chance). So here is to hoping he has a poor yr and follows the gravy train to NY as a Met.

I don't really care about the agent change, it's just Manny being Manny, always was and always will be. He's under contract with the Sox for this year, and if I'm not mistaken there are two option years after that, so we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

BUT, I did want to make a proposition. Down here, in DFW, the little radio station 1310 The Ticket has a nickname for Boras: The Anti-Christ.

Just saying.... I like it, at least...

I had said in a previous post that I do see Teixeira and CC donning pinstripes for 2009. Both their teams are sure to be in the playoff race so I dont see mid summer trades to happen. They will be handed crisp blank checks once the clock strikes midnight for free agency to begin

Wasn't there talk about Atlanta extending Tex?

Nothing new on that front lately, but there was talk earlier the ATL was trying to get a long term deal done. I think there is a good chance they do try to do it.

True, but at the same token... his agent is Scott Boras. An extension is possible, but Id wager that Boras is foaming at the mouth for a bidding war by seasons end

from the atlanta side of things. Tex is saying all the right things, but if he truly is leaving this all in Boras' hands, then the Braves have no chance. Assume that the Angels, Dodgers (presumably if Loney doesnt develop) and Yankees are in dire need of a 1b and the sox potentially if they can move Youk, and you have 4 teams with massive resources that can bid on the open market. There is absolutely no way Boras passes that up unless the Braves meet his initial ridiculous request. I see Tex getting a 6 or 7 yr deal at upwards of 20 mil a season.

If and only IF he went to New York I really don't think it would be to the Yankees. It would be more with the Mets than anything. And can you honestly tell me you think that the Red Sox are going to give up a guy like this they are going to do everything in their power to sign him again and they still have that 2009 option on him which they will pick up. He's going to retire with the Red Sox and will go down as one of the greatest players the Red Sox organization has ever seen. He may have a crappy attitude half the time but his numbers speak for themselves.

I agree totally. For one, as others have mentioned, he's all about retiring that number. Second, he is so not into the press. He's kind of established a stasis with the media in Boston. A move to the Yankers would be about as far from what he likes (media-wise) as one could imagine.

I have a funny feeling that Manny is going to have a much more "Manny-esque" year than last year, performance-wise. I think we'll be seeing the sox exercise that option for '09.

Exactly. The Sox can see how '08 plays out and go from there. If they ultimately let him walk its because they don't view him as worth the $. While no team wants a former player to go elsewhere in the division where they can hurt you, the decision must be made based on cost vs. benefit.
