I'm confused why the NY Yankees spent this much money on A-Rods contract. I bet you they could have had him for MUCH less. After watching what happened to the Texas Rangers who was going to sign A-Rod to a 10 year/ 252 million deal? Nobody.

The team with the second highest payroll (Red Sox) would have signed him on there own terms.

No other team in baseball would be interested signing a player with his character, postseason resume, and ability to strap a teams payroll for years.

Even 10 years / 200 million would be an issue for the rest of the teams in baseball. Could anyone see the Red Sox making that offer with how they deal with contracts now? If they don't persue him whoelse in MLB would? How foolish

ARod is a dick. Regardless' date=' he is probably the best player in the game and we get to watch him finish his career in NY, and maybe he will reclaim the HR record from the roided out f*** called Barry. And if he puts in another yr like last yr, most will forget his ridiculousness.[/quote']But what if he too is a roided out f***?

A-Rod still pisses me off but for you guys to talk about how much money the Yankees are spending here is laughable. A-Rod will pay for his own contract. The revenue he will bring in will be huge dont kid yourself.

That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying the media spin on this is absolutely ridiculous and laughable at the same time.

Why would the New York media go out of their way to spin things in favor of the Yankees? Remember, they're more vicious towards the teams in the city then they are supportive.

Personally, I don't think the media is going out of its way to spin anything. I just don't think they have the wit to scratch beyond the surface on this story, like they don't with many stories. By and large, I'm regularly disappointed by sports media. Why should this story be any different? They've taken the bait too.

Yeah, and I'm sure you have proof of this...

And you have proof to the contrary? If proof is required, then you never should have posted in the thread.

All I'm saying is that I really think it's unfair to say that the Yankees and the NY media are conspiring to make A-Rod look like he was the desperate one.

In my opinion, the NY media is reporting what they believe to be the truth. Remember, people in the NY media have made A-Rod out to be a villian ever since he got here (or at least since the 2004 ALCS). Why would they change their opinions if they didn't believe it be factual.

Yeah' date=' and I'm sure you have proof of this...[/quote']The proof is that the story comes from the Yankees and ARod, not from disinterested third parties, as there would be none that would be privy to the negotiations. The source of the news is the Yanks, ARod and Boras. Where else would the spin come from?

If you believe what they're printing, and what everyone is saying, A-Rod contacted the Yankees through a third part that was not Scott Boras.

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7452506

So, you think that the third party hand-picked by ARod (and probably Boras) to contact the Yankees leaked the story to the press? If that happened, I'd have to think that the third party was instructed by ARod and Boras to leak the information. I'd also have to believe that the third part had a financial interest. There was no one that was part of those negotiations: the Yankees, ARod, Boras, and the mysterious liaison that did not have the common interest of making the Yankees look good and ARod look like he loves NY.

I think the yankees were prepared to offer a major deal regardless and I wont for one reason think that Boras didnt have a hand in this. But with the recent news about Kenny Rogers severing ties from Boras, then you have to at least think twice about it. Boras is all about the big dime, not necessarily the interests of the players or their best fit. I think Boras got a little ahead of himself with his expectations and ARod went along with it initially. But with the fact that the market dried up and ARod coming out with egg on his face from the breaking news during the WS, I think he figured he had to do something before his best and most lucrative option dried up.

Boras's reputation has taken a HUGE hit this off-season. He is no longer the superagent he kept telling everyone.

All that's left is Andruw Jones going behind his back to make a deal and he'll have lost three major free agents in one off-season.

I wonder who will hold the title of the best agent in baseball now?

Would tend not to agree...you could make a case that his reputation should be emboldened in that when it looks most dire for his clients (dire=ARod wouldn't get 10/$350 within the 1st couple of days of FA) somehow things appear to be getting done, resulting in the most lucrative contract in history.

is arn ""tellum to call nomar and reject the deal"" still working?

he maybe the worst

boras may not have taken a hit in his wallet, just his reputation, which in the long term will be a lot worse for him

Not yet. The yankees and ARod are negotiating the amount of revenue ARod would get from a HR chase in the event he was to make it close to Bonds.

It will be funny if suddenly the injury bug catches up with him - say like Ken Grieffy Junior.

You have to wonder if the revenue from homeruns is enough to motivate him. He already has secured enough money to support next 3 generations of his family. What happens if he now regresses to 2006 form? The Yankees will still have to pay him for 10 more years - right?
