f***ing A dude, Im glad I asked for a half day in advance for Friday :) Adrenaline is flowing through my veins. This will be one of the most anticipated games of the season. As I had thought before in the bucholz thread, now confirmed by Gordon Edes, Wily Mo will likely be moved to make way for the stud pitcher. They were said to be moving in on a trade with a National League team

I guess I wont see him in Buffalo. Damn, but if he does well in Boston i won't care. I wonder who will be pitching on Wednesday for Pawtucket.

per 7 news boston

Heres what its looking like:

Game 1- Say Bye to Wily Mo, meet Clay Bucholz

Game 2- Say bye for now to Clay Bucholz.... welcome back Ellsbury

Thats right Ellsbury is getting the call over Bobby Kielty

i thought kielty had a clause preventing him from being in the minors for too long.... why wouldnt we wait till september to call jacoby back up?

Even though Im not sure if I agree with it, I have a strange feeling it could be Hinske who goes, and Ellsbury will stay up for the stretch run since they are both lefties. He will be used as a defensive replacement, baseunner and spot starter.

Screw it man, he should be used as a CF and leadoff hitter. If he gets on base at a .360 clip and can LEADOFF then this team can finally stop with the revolving door crap and finally solidify the order:

Ellsbury

Pedroia

Ortiz

Manny

Drew

Lowell

Youkilis

Varitek

Lugo

It won't happen, but this team desperately needs a consistent, dynamic leadoff hitter who can score from first on doubles and score easily on singles.

What? Manny, Drew, and Ortiz are the problem. Not Crisp (lately)

I want to be on record saying letting WMP go will be a big mistake.

I hate JD Drew.

Its exciting to see Clay Buchholz getting the call and Ellsbury up for a game but this sucks. Drew with his weak-ass pop ups and double play grounders isn't fit to carry WMP's jock strap.

Sure, he strikes out a TON, and he can't hit a curveball, but Drew is the new Kevin Millar for me (longstanding talksox folks should understand).

Drew is an expensive Trot Nixon without the hustle. Call me stupid but I really think with regular playing time WMP can blossom. I really think Drew will be what he is for the next 5 years. An overpaid 120 game a season platoon player with no pop, defense, arm, or heart. I have no idea what Theo sees in this guy.

Wily Mo Pena may not become the next big thing but I'd still rather have him at $2 million than Nancy Drew at $14.

Whining over.

He cannot contribute from a power position on a pennant winning team. He also has the potential to become a monster. But he has a significant hurdle to climb to reach his potential, and the sox dont have the luxury to wait. Drew is terrible, I agree, but his ability to reach base is still more useful than WMP's occasional homer threat. Unfortunately for the sox, they didnt sell when they should have, which was right when they signed Drew. Now they are giving WMP away. WMP would do well in Pittsburgh where guys like Jose Guillen have resurrected their careers with regular playing time. In 3 seasons, WMP will be a .260 30HR kinda guy, but between now and 2010, he could be anything from a .200 hitter to a .280 hitter with 200K per yr and a sub .330OBP. That isnt conducive to winning.

Don't like Youk in the 7 hole. His OBP is basically wasted there with Tek and Lugo behind him.

A Julian Tavarez start could be coming. The Sox might opt to push Wakefield back a day to pitch game 1 at Tropicana Field on Monday, and have Tavarez start on Sunday vs Joe Saunders

It might be a viable option to let Hinske go when Kielty gets called up. Kielty does have some experience playing 1st, giving Sox the ability to give Lowel or Youkilis the occasional day off. Example, I believe that center field is Crisp's job for the rest of the season. Ellsbury will get playing time, especially with Drew's streakiness

Lineup:

1. Pedroia 2B

2. Youkilis 1B

3. Ortiz DH

4. Ramirez LF

5. Lowell 3B

6. Varitek C

7. Drew RF

8. Crisp CF

9. Lugo SS

Bench

Doug Mirabelli C

Alex Cora IF

Bobby Kielty 1B/OF

Jacoby Ellsbury OF

How did this kid look? I didn't get a chance to see the game, his stat line wasn't great, but with new, young pitchers, that can be misleading.

His change is filthy, he threw it the Gary JR 3 times in a row and he looked like a fool all 3 times. If you can make a major league hitter look that dumb then your doing something right. His fastball sat around 91-92 MPH and when needed he pumped it up to 94-95. His change and curve are his best pitches I think.
