Eight games out, should have won today, and the Sox, after today's win, seem like a team of destiny.

RIP 2007 Yankees.

Bye Cashman and Torre. Good riddance.

Gom, I hope to the flying spaghetti monster that you don't jinx this season. That said, things are looking terrible for the Yankees. It's looking realistic that the Yankees could be 10 games back or more by the time they meet up with the Red Sox again. If the Red Sox manage to take 2 of 3, or even sweep the Yankees in 2 weeks, it could just about end their season. Lets hope the lose the series at Chicago and NYM while we keep winning and sweep 'em. We really have a great chance here to run away with the division. Lady luck be with us this season.

When I first saw the title of this thread I thought it was by adam123 or one of his ilk. I would say that they are absolutely not done. They'll be within 2 games of the Sox at least in September.

Its way to early to say they we dead. We have the rest of this month and 4 more months. Right now the offense has fallen asleep. I personally dont think thats something to worry about considering the people we have in the lineup. Cano and Abreu will come around, and by the begining of June we will be adding both Clemens and Hughes.

Wow, 36 games and you're giving up? At elast be encouraged by your pitching's progress, aside from the 14-2 rout against the Rangers, your staff seem to be keeping you in ballgames. If you ahd these performances last month, you're right there with us.

For now Im giving you the benefit of the doubt and calling this a joke thread. Im still scared of the Yankees going on their hot summer run. Look no further than the 1978 Sox I believe, who had a 12 game lead squandered by the Yankees

If Becketts finger is not serious then I think the Sox will win the east. I don't think we will run away with it, but with good pitching and a very good offense 8 games in front is a lot, but we shall see.

Any reasonable Red Sox fan knows to never, ever count the Yankees out.

That being said, if the Sox can extend this lead to 10 before Clemens and Hughes come back that will be absolutely huge.

I hear Yankee fans continue to bring up 1978, but back then the Yankees had Guidry who was their stopper. Who is this team's stopper? Also, Zimmer ran that 1978 team into the ground, something (I hope) Tito won't do.

8 games right now is very, very nice. It is by no means insurmountable.

The Yankees are far from dead. I could see them gettig to the playoffs. It's a long haul and they are stacked with talent. However, getting to the playoffs may not be the best thing for Yankee fans. Although they are built to make the playoffs, right now they are not built to win the playoffs. If they make the playoffs after this slow start and get knocked out in the first or second round, Torre is likely to be rehired and Cashman will remain too. This may not be a very god long term plan.

I'm a realist. This team has done nothing to show me so far that they will win the East again. Without Arod, the Yankees would be in dead last in the AL East.

Mariano is old, the pitching staff is bigger on names than on talent. Sadly, the best pitcher this season for the yankees starting rotation has been Matt Desalvo. If you asked me who he was two weeks ago, I would have had no idea.

What makes me think that this team won't do anything is the lack of power on this squad [outside of the horrendous pitching]. Take away Arod, and the team has 21 homers in 36 games. Torre is the wrong manager for this team, Cashman has had the worst beginning for a GM in New York in ten years. Okajima wanted to come to New York, so he gets Vizcaino. Lilly was dying to come to New York, so he gets Igawa. He has spent 25 million in posting fees for a f***ING MINOR LEAGUE pitcher.

How this guy has a job is beyond me. I miss the days of the old Steinbrenner. He would have been gone by now.

The truth is, there isn't much to go on with this team. The Sox have too much of a lead for this team to rally, and the disparity in talent, either way, is not big enough. If the Yankees had an 8 game lead, I would say they were finished too.

LETS GO METS!

LOL!

Wait where did you hear Okajima wanted to go to the Yankees?

I saw that same thing in an article I think it was in the Sunday News a couple of weeks ago. It was an article on Cashman. I think, I could be wrong.

I must say, I havent had a feeling like this since the yankees were 11-19 in 2005. 8 games out is a sufficient enough cushion for your team to hold us off. Assuming Beckett's injury is not serious and you dont have any other pitching injuries, you guys shouldnt lose your lead. What is absolutely dumbfounding, is that our pitching has been very solid lately and we still cannot gain any sort of offensive consistency. Pathetic really.

you guys always have the ability to rip off 19 of 21 and if there's a stretch like that where we play .500 ball, that evens things up in the standings

Gom is a pathetic fan. I still rooted hard for the sox in 04, when we were 10 games back. I don't think the Yankees are done, it will be hard for them if the sox pitching continues to dominate.

I think one thing we have learned being Sox fans, is to never ever count the Yankees out of anything! They are the best team that money can buy! With that being said the Yankees pitching is going to get better, but the bullpen is what is really killing them right now! When and if the Yanks go on their notorious hot streak it could end up being a very close race to the finish
Posted

it will be difficult overcoming this type of a lead so long as the sox starters keep up their efforts

look for wake to come back to earth and look for lester to take the 5th spot come june or july

it could be a wash #s wise

I don't really seeing the Yankees winning the East, but I don't think this team is dead by any stretch of the imagination. They've been in a pretty bad stretch, but they're starting to come out of it and play pretty well. The offense is going to pick it up and soon enough we'll have a rotation which, I think, could do pretty well. Way too early to give up.

Dumbfounded as well, the poor pitching has spread like a cancer to their greatness which is that f***ing all-star lineup

About Beckett, I dont want them to rush him forward to his next game. Theyre holding an 8 game lead, offense is really clicking, the rest of the rotation is holding their own and the bullpen has been steady as ever. I can sit alright if they need to call up a kid for 1 or 2 starts. As long as this is occuring now, not during the stretch... the Sox are ok
