Mattingly didnt have much to do. Hughes was filthy' date=' Joba was unreal and Mo was Mo. It is very easy when you crush the opposing pitching and dont give up s***. BTW, Joba was DIRRRRTY. He could be what Zumaya was to the tigers last yr. 96-99mph heat with a 88-90mph slider that has a 1 to 7 break. It really is filthy.[/quote']

Jacko, you are WAY OFF here. The slider is definitely has a 12:51 to 6:48 break, not 1 to 7. Mind you, these times are PM, not AM.

Good thing for the qualifier there, VA. I would have been worried you were having nightmares of the one-eyed serpent.

Byrd blows.

The rules Joe Torre has to follow in terms of his use of Joba Chamberlain (per Peter Abraham at yankees.lohudblogs.com)

- no back to back days

- usually a day off for every inning he pitches

- about a 35 pitch limit for his two inning stints.

I love Posada, but Molina is a better catcher. Why the hell did the Angels let this guy go? I haven't seen someone frame pitches better than this guy in years. Is it any wonder that Moose's best outing came with this guy behind the plate?

posada is a great weapon offensivley and he has the luxury of calling the games behind the best starters that money could buy but he isnt a defensive catcher at all

he hates the plays at the plate

leave the youngsters alone fer chrissakes

nobody here is from west virginia or roanoke

To his credit, Posada did improve defensively in the running game. Most of the pitchers like the way he calls the game too, but he wont be mistaken for a defensive catcher at any point. Molina is all D.

In terms of why Molina was catching, Mussina had liked Nieves prior to Nieves sucking and being sent out so maybe he requested Molina. Also, Posada is a bit banged up from his collision with Danny Richar a week or so ago and maybe he is just getting a 3rd day in a row off.

Overall, Moose's line was dynamite. Good for him finally coming back with a few strong outings in a row. Too bad I couldnt watch it. But if Moose and Pettitte are on with Clemens and Wang, that is one heck of a top 4. Throw in the kid and I'll take our starting 5 against any in the game.

With an upcoming double header, the Yankees will call on top pitching prospect Ian Kennedy to start one of the games. Surely I thought Jeff Karstens wouldve gotten as the ball as there would be no need to do a roster move. So much for Jacko's gripe on bringing up prospects steadily. Both Chamberlain and Kennedy were drafted last June

I have a problem with Kennedy being in the rotation for the rest of the yr. For one spot start, no problem. In terms of Chamberlain, he isnt being a starter in the bigs and as a reliever, he is lights out. I think it will set him back half a season in terms of command of his change and curve which will be needed for starting, but otherwise no worries.

Well, today's game is a free game for the Yankees. They won the series, so it's not a big deal. Swing game for the Sox and Mariners though.

I just dont get that Bucholz rising to Triple A in 2 years is bad management of prospects. While Yankees prospects making their debuts after a year being drafted' date=' is no problem/no worries[/quote']

I dont think it is bad management, I just dont think it is conducive to having a stretched out arm. This is true for both Kennedy and Chamberlain. Kennedy will likely be at 150 innings this yr, which is 30 up from his total from last yr. Chamberlain will likely be in the 120 range and may need to log another 30 or so in winter ball to get to that magic 150IP mark. Hughes was at 150 last yr too. You figure that a pitcher can handle 30 more innings lobbed on top of a previous season's high. Hence, Buchholz who had 120 last yr, should only be given 150 this yr. At the same time, filling out the arsenal is a necessity as well and you can work on things in the minors a whole lot more than you can in the bigs.

That being said, if you "graduate" to the majors having 150IP your last season in the minors, then you are prepared for 180IP which is a solid major league workload. Buchholz will reach 150. Kennedy will. Chamberlain wont, he'll need winter ball. Hence, Buchholz is likely on his way to being shut down, Kennedy will likely get this one start, then get pulled, and Joba will pen it until he gets to Hawaii. Like I said, the best thing for these prospects is to move maybe 2 levels in a yr, increase the workload by 30 IP per season and mastering their arsenal.

Curt should be back strong, but somehowTraschel brings his career 1.40 ERA in 3 starts against Boston. I call this a W for the Sox, it will be a joke if they lose 2 out of 3 to the O's with their 3 best pitchers starting

I have a feeling that both starters will be equally average and the sox will win with their pen.

Are you just going on prediction of todays game that the Orioles crush Schilling? His career 3.95 ERA against them and 3.56 ERA in 2 games this year say otherwise that he gets "crushed". Traschel yes has done well vs Boston (helped by sox bats getting him out of jams), and theres always the Orioles pen

Melky is coming into his own as one of the 10 best CFers. Man' date=' he is solid. He and Cano will be a nice foundation for the next 10-15yrs.[/quote']

Come next year, Coco and Damon will be off with other teams. The Sox will have Ellsbury, Yankees will have Cabrera
