yeah' date=' he was 0 for 4 until that AB. I am starting to....kinda...hope ARod hits in the clutch. Wow. I only asked for him to have solid ABs in the clutch. I had no idea he'd be this good.[/quote']

Again let's wait and see, what he does in the heat of the race. I personally think he will do just fine and Yankee fans hype his shortcomings, but if he doesnt produce down the stretch Yankee fans will boo him yet again.

He had good clutch stats in 05, and got hamered by the fans when he didn't do it in the postseason. I guess what I mean is that he will never be fully acepted until he performs in October; which I think is sort of unfair since he is probably the best player in the AL.

This offense is just really amazing. They destroyed two pretty good pitchers in the first two games and with one out left in the game today score 6 runs to win. It's a nice little momentum booster as the Yankees head into what should be a tough series.

Not really all that true. His numbers were deceiving in 05. If he was up with the game on the line, he folded like a beach chair.

The question will become how many times can you go to the well? At some point your starters and middle relief will have to step up. I know things will look better for you guys once Wang and Mussina come back.

our starter was fine today, Joe cut the cord way too early. Vizcaino spit the bit for the first time, it happens. Joe has no faith in any starter aside from Pettitte, Moose, and Wang. He showed it last night when Igawa was at 92 pitches and didnt go out for the 7th. He showed it in Oakland when Rasner had 0ER in 5.1IP. Torre has to see what he has here. Yeah, these guys throw a lot of pitches, but for christ sakes save your damn bullpen at some point. I thought Rasner could go 6. Yet Joe handed his pen 5 extra outs.

Where was I aiming solely at todays starter? Regardless the staff still gave up 6 runs today, so hence the offense had to save their ass again

EDIT: BTW this shows again why its not always wise to throw out your closer in the 9th that is a non-save situation. Anyone remember Billy Wagner's meltdown last year against the Yankees?

I agree.

I am elated but annoyed right now. Like I said, to the point where Rasner was removed, our rotation and pen had had a nice series vs a great offense. I thought Torre could see Rasner grow into a reliable 5th starter but if he keeps handling him like he's made of glass, he will be nothing but a more durable Jaret Wright (in terms of injuries that is).

This is probably the stupidest thing I've ever read.

I see where he is coming from, but you also have to look at the situation. Some closers dont have that killer mentality if it isnt a save situation. But in a 4 run game against NY, you have to. Cause 4 runs to the yankees is like 1 run to other teams. He smoked the first 2 hitters, but this yankee lineup is special. They are owning pitchers, good pitchers, closers even, without one of their best hitters. It really is special.

OK, he surrenders a run.

Now, it's a save situation.

Time to turn on that closer's mentality, or whatever the f*** it is.

I agree, it sounds very strange. But I have seen the best closer in history turn into a crappy mopup guy. Mo is not very good when it isnt a save situation or a close game. Not saying 4 runs is a mopup duty, but still. His point sounds very dumb, but I have seen it with my own eyes too many times to completely discredit it.

And it isnt easy to turn it on either.

How many times have you seen, once or twice? Maybe three times? Sorry, too small of a sample size. Besides, I can easily go the other way on this argument.

Actually, I checked it, these are Rivera's numbers in non-save situation's in 2006.

35 IP 2.05 ERA 1.08 WHIP 6.7 K/9

The numbers are lower, and even if he is this kind of pitcher in non-save situations, you don't want to bring this guy in?

I looked at some other closers too:

ER's in save/non-save situations

Papelbon - 6 ER in SV, 1 ER in NSV

Rodriguez - 4 ER in SV, 9 ER in NSV

Jenks - 20 ER in SV, 11 in NSV

Street - 25 ER in SV, 1 in NSV

Ryan - 10 ER in SV, 1 in NSV

I see ARod had some more heroics on my ride home. Rather unexpected. And, more importantly it adds a new dynamic to the opt-out issue. Imagine, ARod is clutch all year, winning the hearts and minds of the Yankee fans, leads them into the playoffs (as the WC of course), has a monster series, but they go home because their rotation sucks and Jeter actually has a bad series. The fans have turned. They want him now.......

And he leaves them like a jilted bride. I'll giggle my ass off all offseason. Keep it up, ARod.
