Mariano is starting to look a bit foolish for all that 'respect' talk prior to the season.
Yikes! You are criticizing Mo? Yankee fans should never utter a negative word about the man even if he were to take a dump right on the pitching rubber.

I really don't think any player should be exempt from criticism. Mo just isn't getting the job done right now and it's just funny that it came after a spring when he put on quite the show for the media.

Karstens is an idiot. That walk to Youkilis still has me fuming. With Ortiz on deck, there's no excuse for not throwing one right down the middle to Youk. The worst that could have happened was back to back shots...which would be no different than what ended up happening.

To be fair, the 2-1 and 3-2 pitches were very close and could have easily been called strikes. It's not like he missed by a wide margin.

great post. I watched in horror at my inlaws (emergency trip, hence why i have been gone for 2 days, nothing serious). I was expecting a loss, enjoyed the fact that we beat up on Beckett and accepted the loss as I kinda expected it. But once again, that walk to youks is inexcuseable. The guy hasnt hit for s*** this season, obviously he is looking for the walk.

One other thing that got me a bit is the fact that he let Karstens start the 5th then pulled him mid inning. Down 4, all I want is to make sure that A. the starter isnt in danger physically and B. we dont burn out the pen. If he was worried about A, then he never should have started the 5th. If he wasnt worried about A then what harm is it to hang him out to dry a little more and save the pen for another day. I think we could have used getting shitcanned yesterday and saved some of our pen (which was brilliant btw).

Optimist. If Mo is a major worry, then I would be really happy with the shape of our team. I was very worried with Mo two yrs ago for one reason and one reason only. His velocity was down. That is the first sign of wear and tear. Then, the season wore on and he was the same Mo. In the game against the sox, Mo gave up a looper off the end of the bat from Vtek, a chopper by Crisp and a jam shot blooper by Cora. It happens when you have a pitcher who relies on contact like Mo has the past few yrs. That game, Mo was throwing 93mph cutters and 90mph 2 seamers. That is normal for him. He'll get it together. It was all location.

enjoyed the fact that we beat up on Beckett...

Were you watching a rebroadcast of last year? His statline wasn't splendid, but his performance was. He's one bloop away from a 2 ER performance. Given the way he pitched and the type of contact he got all day, I'll take his performance against that lineup 10 times out of 10.

Kind of like his first two times up where he went 2-2 with a 2B? Call me crazy, but when a guy has ripped off two solid hits in his 1st two ABs, that may be in the pitcher's head.

....and saved some of our pen (which was brilliant btw).

And now the s*** shoveled gets really thick. Brilliant? Every inning after Karstens was a disaster waiting to happen. Seven base runners in 3 2/3.

Yeah, the pen allowed no runners is what I was talking about, good save. I did watch Beckett throw and he wasnt dominant. The curve was off and on and he got raked a few times. He was a blooper away, but at the same time Cano had a double that was called wrong by the blues anyway. It evened out. He was nowhere near as dominant as I was expecting. And againt THAT lineup? You mean the one with no Posada, Damon, or Matsui? He should have shovelled s*** down our throats with that garbage lineup 7-9 and leadoff. Instead he was very mediocre against a lineup that was 2-6 deep.

and youks to that point in the season had been off. Yeah he hit the ball hard twice, but it isnt like Youks was on a homer tear here. Walking him was what turned out to be the game.

BTW, Paps was throwing hard last night, and I would have loved seeing a locked in ARod and locked in Paps matchup.

Well, It's still pretty early in the season to say, but the Sox really played some good baseball. I have to give credit to the Yanks for making a good series of it they were only outscored 21-17! I am not gonna get my hopes up though, there's still a lot of baseball left.

good way of keeping a level head. If we got one ounce of bullpen in game 1 and one ounce of starting pitching in games 2 and 3 we sweep. But I must give credit where credit is due. We took advantage last yr with the Boston Massacre Part II when your rotation was in dire straights, you returned the favor when ours is.

I still say it was too close of a series! 21-17, yeah we had good starting pitching, but the bullpen I must say stepped it up! It's gonna be a good year!

I think that after last night, with the history that was made last night, is going to be good! I don't wanna get my hopes up, but I really feel that this year is going to be one that is hard fought and come out in the Sox favor!

October? I think is in the near future

If Schilling was Schilling and Beckett was Beckett and Matsuzaka was Matsuzaka you don't sweep.

I think that pretty well sums up a lot, but don't forget Wakefield in the mix!
