I do not think the Padres have any chance at getting Manny, I'm pretty sure the discussion on this board has decided that the Dodgers are the only team with a chance now that the Angels are out of the race

but what about peavy gonzales and linebrick ??? do you really think andrew jones will come here .. i live in lv man i see loney and billingsly and broxton there all kinda good but i think peavy gonzales would be good

I'll rephrase it. The Dodgers are the most likely team to put up a package that we like. I just don't see the Padres dealing their best player, Peavy, and a good young power hitter for Manny. The Dodgers could survive without those 3 guys and with Manny, I dunno if the Padres could...although Hensley and Young are going to be good too.

:dunno:

There's a thread already man.

we've now got "Manny and Who else", "Trading Manny", "Dodgers or Padres who gets Manny" and "Papelbon speaks against trading Manny" which all could be under one thread.

maybe its a "name in lights" situaiton here, I don't know, but its fkn annoying as hell.

Keep Manny, breaking up the best 3-4 combo in in recent history is not how you solve a teams problems; lets face it Manny is not a clubhouse cancer everybody seems to like him and he just goes out and hits 40 HR every year. I know people will talk about last september but whats the point at age 34, when the team is out of it to play with Patella tendonitis. The only way that can fully heal is getting proper rest.

Agree with this also. People seem to get the false idea that Manny is a clubhouse cancer. I think its the exact opposite...people love him.

The Padres dont have much to offer for Manny and what we'd want in return, the Padres wont give.

From the Dodgers, I think a reasonable deal would include Manny for Broxton, Kemp and Loney.

I do not get why everyone is so excited about the prospect of trading for Andruw Jones. Sure, he has a great glove and can hit HR, but he can't hit for avg and is not clutch at all. Plus he is a free agent after this season and will want to be making as much money as Manny anyway. He is getting old and his legs are bad. No thanks. I'd rather take a Peavy or keep the prospects that we could get from the Dodgers and develop them. We will be a contender next year with or without Manny, as long as the bullpen gets shored up and Matsuzaka gets signed. Of course Manny increases our chances of winning it all by a million. The best option is to keep him, but if we don't, we shouldn't panic and give away a whole lot of young talent for a player not even in his league. That being said, if Crisp doesn't work out again this year, we can make a run at Jones, Wells, or Hunter next off season. But now is not the time.

We aint getting Peavy, Gonzalez and Linebrink for Manny. NO way SD moves all three. Maybe Linebrink and Gonzalez, but id still be hesitant about that deal. If they'd be willing to trade Peavy and Gonzalez, id be all over it.

one good thing about this whole trading Manny thing is that the 3 teams who want him the most, all play in the same division. That should raise the price and get us a little more in return

I hope they do trade his ass, because im sick and tired of hearing about this s*** since the day the new ownership stepped in.

I love the guy but christ, this needs to end.

Yeah, on one hand I love watching Manny. Absolutely love it.

At the same time, he is making the Red Sox the yearly laughing stock of baseball. There is NO reason the Sox FO should be the top baseball-related news right now. None. Cowherd talks about it, Dan Patrick talks about it, every sports center/espnnews update questions their capacity to adequately run the team. Yet the main hurdle at this point is whether or not Manny goes, with most people blasting the absurdity of trying to trade Manny at all.

Of course, I've never once heard anyone on the radio refer to VORP or WARP3 or any other useful metrics to actually quantify how good manny is. That's the tough part, Manny is so good that people don't feel like numbers can describe his value. Without it being stated often he has those 'intangibles' that the greatest players have, his intangibles are entirely offensive but they are tremendous tools.

No matter who the Sox get back there is going to be a negative backlash. The only names I've heard mentioned I can think of that wouldn't involve that are Teixeira, Andruw Jones, and Vernon Wells. Peavy would be in the second tier, although with a long term view having Peavy on your team would really solidify the pitching staff for 5 years (Peavy, Matsuzaka, Papelbon, Beckett, Lester/Bowden/Bard/Buchholz). They would still need to get a good bat though, and there are few bats available.

Posted
most likely many more quality bats will come through the trade market/ FA market over the next year or two than top tier starters so I think if you can get Peavy, you do it.
Posted
i think if we are going to send manny to the Pads' date=' Linebrink has to be in the deal, but I love Kouzmanoff[/quote']Linebrink for Manny? yuk. I don't care what position player they throw in. That would just suck.

Greene is an interesting guy that would fill a need as part of a deal (with Peavy). Hes young, cheap, plays good D, and outside of Petco he had an .860 OPS anda .850 OPS outside Petco over a 3 year span.

Yeah, ok.

Who else is going over with manny then?

OK, I was saying what I would take from the Padres for manny. However, I have said today that I see no way manny goes to the Padres, therefore, I also believe this is not a feasible trade.

Peavy had a down year last year, but he's a stud and cost controlled for another few years.

If you get Peavy for Manny, you might get a mid-level prospect with it. Dreams of getting Linebrink or Gonzalez would mean the Sox would have to part with prospects (or $$$) of their own.
