Bagwell

Doesn't Bagwell have arthritis in his shoulder?

He missed all of last year and most of 2005. He was a solid performer in 2004 but I don't imagine he'd be much better than Kevin Youkilis right now.

Its more like a post I saw earlier, take a shotgun to your shoulder, pull the trigger and blow it apart, then try to throw and hit with it. Thats about how bad Bags shoulder is.

true' date=' but so far no teams have been real interested in them[/quote']

Right Beckett, and we should not be wasting our time on these cads in the first place. We have some young players we could take a look at and give them some experience against Major Leaguers. When I was at Fort Myers last year I saw some guys that I wouldn't give ten cents for and there they were in our lineup. No wonder our ST record was so abysmal this past spring. Invite a few who could log some innings but keep it down to a minimum. We aren't going to strike gold with some phenom who suddenly finds himself. It just doesn't work that way. They were flops before for a reason, although I will backtrack and would suggest a couple. Jason Werth might be worth a look. He was making real progress as a stalwart for the Dodgers until that broken wrist. He might be worth a look. The guy has power and was a pretty damn good clutch hitter for the Dodgers in 2004.:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Spring training records don't count for anything. This is the time you should be evaluating some these guys. You can and sometimes do find productive players this way, Arroyo and Brian Daubach were kept and eventually contributed based on quality spring training performances. It doesn't happen every year but it does happen.

It can always happen Bouv but it rarely does and Arroyo became nothing more than an innings-eating journeyman pitcher for us who had loads of trouble with lefthand batters and had even more trouble with the Yankees who hit him around pretty well. Daubach did have a couple of decent seasons, but by 2004 was just about worthless to us and off the team. Nothing wrong at looking at a few invitees but when you have dozens show up, most of who had failed repeatedly in the past, all you are doing is taking away time for some of your prospects to get some real game work in.
