Send him back to San Diego. They could use him and might be willing to send something decent, however, they have no farm system so prospects are out.

Why does everyone always want to trade players? I agree that things need to be shaken up, but Wells has been doing a fine job. There's no reason to trade one of the Sox's most consistent pitchers.

The Sox's slump is disappointing as hell, but I'm not losing faith. The Red Sox are still a contender

The Red Sox are not a contender. What have you seen out of them that makes you think this team can recover. They are pretty much finished right now and get something for Wells before he can retire.

What about to Arizona? :dunno: They traded a couple of decent prospects for Livan Hernandez...

EDIT: And they can use the starting pitching too...they are still in their race

Wells

Hinske(off season?)

Tavarez

Foulke

Loretta

Cora

?

wells i would move soon as with loretta. foulke if he pitches well down the stretch might bring him back on his player option of 3.75 mil. tavarez comes back even though he sucks cause of his contract. cora likely back as well. Hinske could be trade bait.

loretta is 35 im sure he still has a few good years in him and the price we are paying him this year 3,250,000 , he was well worth it, id take a chance for another year from him at the same price

You think Loretta can clear waivers? I don't.

Boomer is a perfect fit for the Mets who have to be desperate for a big game pitcher right now.

Apprently Loretta has cleared waivers as they almost traded him to the Tigers so he can be traded.

Are you guys seriously giving up on this season? Come on. It's sickening. Most of the time, if I were to see behaivor like this I would laugh and enjoy it, but I really feel sorry for you guys right now. I never thought I would see the fans of the team that came back and won a series after being down 3-0 give up on a season. Trading Wells (If he were to make it through waivers, which I doubt) would be a mistake. I, as a Yankee fan, know better than anybody that if you guys want to make a comeback this year that Wells is essential.

Wells cleared waivers already on august 3rd.....The Red Sox are not likely to break out of this downward turn. They have no bullpen. No starting pitching and outside of Ortiz and Ramirez an offense that is struggling. I would say this team is pretty much cooked and dumping wells to get a prospect is the right thing to do.

There is a difference....the 2004 team didn't have the injuries or weak attitude of this team.

f*** this man. after seeing '04 with my own two eyes, I swore to myself that I would never ever say anything is impossible in sports again and being out of a playoff spot by a handful of games with 39 left to play damn sure isnt nearly as bad as October '04 looked.

buck up, RSN. get behind this team again cause I sure as hell aren't ready to shift focus to football already. IT AINT OVAH

Agreed. Because if football is the only thing I might die...it goes baseball to basketball for me...football is not my sport. (October baseball-October pre-season hoops...then it starts all over)

They really need a reliable arm in the bull pen come on. We should have won at least 2 if we had a decent pen.

im hoping Foulke can be that arm

And with what pitching does this team plan to get back in the race with.

All right big man, let's take this outside.

the bullpen's crap, I agree but theyve been taxed as hell lately too. But examine the rotation a bit. Schilling and Wells are doing the job. Wakefield is coming back. Beckett can and has strung a few good outings together. And we can get something from Lester.

I don't think people are giving up on this team needlessly. I think people are giving up on this team because they have watched inning after inning of horrible baseball.

Good teams score A run with the bases loaded and 1 out in extra innings. Good teams don't give up passed balls to lose games. Good teams don't have their supposed 1A ace give up 9 (NINE!) walks in a must win game.

Nobody is giving up on the Red Sox forever. However, I've largely given up on them for this year. I'm not finding it enjoyable to watch 5 hour games only to have my team fold time after time after time. The Sox have 6 positions that are absolutely incapable of hitting for power right now (C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, CF). They have two decent starting pitchers, one of whom is David Wells--of all people--and two decent relief pitchers, one of whom is Keith Foulke--of all people--who I call "decent" only because he has had 2 decent outings recently.

The team contended well with injuries and a depleaated pitching staff for much of the season. If the team picks it up from here on out then great, I'll cheer them on. However, I'm not going to waste my time getting baited into discussions about "who is better the Sox or Yanks" when the better team is obviously the Yankees.

I know its fun 26 to 6 to feel like other people are on board with the competition and spirit of the season, but 85% of people on this board seem like I am: tired of late nights and frustrating (and unforgivable) losses.

I think example made a good point with the runners in scoring position statement. While the bullpen has been horrific, the inability to hit with guys on would have probably enabled us to win at least 1 Yankee game

What are we the3 freaken KC Royals? You are probably right. it could n't hurt to do this, because we are going nowhere. However, dumping these guys for prospecswould be an admission by te FO that this season was a farce. I don't think the FO is ready to be that honest. They are not willing to admit to the fans that they have given up on 2006 for some time.

They have 9 days to dump players if this doesn't turn around on the west coast. Face it, its time to pretty much throw in the towel and trade guys like Wells and Loretta out of here.
