  1. Vernon will test the FA waters this offseason, that is a lock, no matter what he says right now. Toronto has no chance of giving him the caliber of baseball or the money he wants. Plus, as we've seen, management appears to favour Gibbons even though he seems to be a total a-hole. I say he's a probable for the Giants to sign. He would fit in well there and he's just what they need when they finally decide to part with Barry, Winn, and/or Alou.
  2. I think your right on the money there. It's a crappy viewpoint but it's one that Theo and Larry probably had. Why force a move that isn't going to improve a team enough to make a playoff push? The Giants did the very same thing, Sabean didn't make a move and was blasted in the bay area press for it, but honestly it was polishing brass on the Titanic and he knew it. Keep your cards close, admit defeat, see what you can do in the offseason.
  3. The lack of salary cap complaints are a weak excuse for poor play. As some of the posters have said, plenty of teams have faired quite well on small budgets and while the Yankees have dominated baseball in terms of championships, they have always doen so and I doubt a cap would do much to change that. Players would still want to play for the Yankees organization and the team would still always field a competitive team.
  4. But if you look at it now Hillenbrand doesn't look like a lone nut since Lily and Gibbons went at it. If Ricciardi is saying you can't play for the Jays if you can't play for Gibbons, he may be taking the wrong side in these matters,
  5. This is good news. However, is this essentially the equivalent of saying "Were done for the season, lets give the youngsters a shot"?
  6. Send him back to San Diego. They could use him and might be willing to send something decent, however, they have no farm system so prospects are out.
  7. If your talking to me, not I'm not. I guess I didn't read the first post completely and thought I was adding the info about NU, I didn't see that it had already been declared.
  8. He played 1B most of last season, but 3B most of his first few seasons. Where is he going to play in Boston? OF maybe?
  9. 27 homers and 82 RBI in 142 games in 2004. His numbers dipped last year, but I think he has more potential than Choi. His walk to strikeout ratio is bit nasty though. He likes to swing. Boston native. Northeastern supposedly.
  10. I guess I deserve that bandwagon tag, but I promise you I'm not. I like that Red Sox fans seem to truly love the game and their team. I've endured plenty of games at SBC park where it seemed like half of the fans there had no idea what was going on or any concept of the history of the team. Besides I understand the suffering that Sox fans once endured; I am a lifelong Golden State Warriors fan.
  11. Hey. I'm not going to lie, I'm a longtime Sox follower, but I'm only now declaring myself a fan. I'm from Northern California, and I've followed the A's and Giants for some time now, but I never really considered myself of fan of theirs either. I love the whole Red Sox organization, I love the tradition and the passion of the fans, and god damn it, I'm declaring myself a fan. Look forward to lurking and posting with you all.
