As it stands right now, the Chicago White Sox are currently leading the Wild Card with the Yankees trailing by only 2.5 games. Quietly lurking in the shadows are the resurgent Minnesota Twins, who stand only 5 games back. The question I have for everyone is, is there a team you'd rather see miss the playoffs then the Minnesota Twins? This team has got to be the most dangerous team to face in a playoff series. In the past, the Twins could trot out Santana, and the other team could expect a loss, knowing well that they could beat Radke and Silva. Now, how the hell can anyone matchup with the Twins? Santana and Liriano are by far the best one-two punch in baseball, and Radke can match up with just about any other third starter in baseball. I don't know if they can get there, but I'm hoping that the White Sox and Yankees can hold them off, because I don't see any team beating this one.

I'd like to see that. The Twins still have to prove the Yankees don't own them in the postseason.

When Ruben Sierra starts hitting bombs off you, and A-Rod gets a big late hit, it's bad.

But the Twins showed the Yankees by signing Sierra, right? :dunno:

Should we be rooting for a Yankee sweep? If so, this is the one aspect of the WC that I really hate. What gives the Red Sox the best chance of making the post season. If the WC comes out of the east, the division winner in the east will get the easiest draw-- the west division winner, although the Yankees always have a very tough time with the angels and the red sox have a very difficult time with the A's. If the WC comes out of the Central and it is the Twins, the east division winner would have a very difficult 5 game series against Santana and Liriano. That would be a tough match up.

i may be mistaken, but didnt liriano pitch last night? unless he went on the DL today. anyway, the twins are deadly, but it's not even just their pitching anymore, which is still good even in the 'pen. Morneau had developed into a pretty good power hitter (he's up there with Thome). rookie SS Jason Bartlett is playing well. Mauer is leading the league in batting and is one of the toughest players to get out. and other guys (kubel, cuddyer, punto, castillo) have been pitching in when necessary. if only torii hunter could find his bat again the twins' lineup would be even deadlier. oh, and they're not that bad a defensive team either.

oh, and as for the upcoming series, the best way to go is probably to root for the white sox to take two of three. this way if we (hopefully) sweep the royals, we should be tied with chitown for the wild card and the yanks for the division. i think thats right, or at least we'll be 1 game or less out on each, which is fine.

I think the only way I'd cheer for the Yankees would be if we were mathematically eliminated from the division and they were playing the team we needed to beat in order to make the WC. Granted, the Yankees ARE playing the team closest to us in the Wild Card standings, but with the division well within reach, I'm rooting for a White Sox sweep of the bombers.

The BRIGHT side is that even if the Yankees do win we gain ground on someone assuming we can beat up on the Royals (which we better).
