validates what i've thought about the bruins all year... irrelevant.

celts, pats, redsox... the bruins can't hold a flame to them at all right now.

For those of us whove watched them for religiously for the first hald of our lives and somewhat more casually since (a) they've sucked and (B) we've developed other priorities, it's extremely disheartening.

I remember Bobby Orr gracing the Garden ice with a style that ultimately changed the way defenseman played the game. I remember Derek Sanderson as a young and unique talent. I can recall Espo getting his garbage goals in front of the net, or Cashman scoring on one shift, beating someone's ass on the next. These are the more vague memories.

I really started watching them a lot in the mid 70's. As Crunchy said, what I wouldn't give to see the diminutive Stan Jonathan pummel someone twice his size or see Wensink challenge an entire bench, with no takers. To see someone play with the intensity of a Terry O'Reilly would be amazing...or to see someone with the finishing skills of Rick "Nifty" Middleton.

Character abounded with the old B's. Even the lesser known names were huge contributors because they had balls...Bob Miller, Bobby Shmatz, Ken Linseman, Don Marcotte, Peter Mcnabb, the Crowders, Bobby Sweeney, Don Sweeney. Look at the B's wrong and, depending on the era, you'd get whooped by Cashman or O'Reilly, Jonathan or Wensink, Jay Miller or Lyndon Byers, Neely or Nilan.

And you'd never, ever have heard a Canadiens fan base chanting in the old Garden, or at least not living to tell about it.

I will continue to watch the Bruins, hoping for just an occasional glimpse of the B's of old. But until the front office figures out that there is neither enough talent OR heart on this team, I fear I'll be searching in vain for those days gone by.

I witnessed (via TV) the ultimate indignity last night.

First off, the B'splayed one of their better B's-Habs games last night and still came up short. I'm ok with that since I think the B's are not a very good team. This isn't what bothered me.

As I mentioned in a post a few weeks back, again, in the BRUINS HOUSE, there was a plethora of Canadien jerseys...a few is one thing, but there were quite a few...that's at least somewhat disturbing....but still isn't what's really on my mind.

When I put the game on, I wasn't sure where they were playing. Chara had picked up the puck behind the B's net and there was a solid round of boos. I though they must be in Montreal. wrong...B's came across center ice and I see the spoked B. The fkn Canadien fans were more vocal than the Bruins fans. And it gets worse...with a minute or so to go you could hear the "na-na-na-na, hey-hey, goodbye" chant that those of us who have watched this rivalry for the past 30 years or so have grown all too accustomed to.

In the Bruins home arena? This is an all time low for the Bruins and I'm thoroughly disgusted.

hehehehehe, I LOVE when we do that

If you haven't had the opportunity to see this yet, it is a pretty good video. While Patrick Roy's kid may suck at being a goalie, he may have a future in MMA.

I saw this video and while I love fighting in hockey I don't like what I saw there. What a piece of crap...there is a code in hockey and when a guy is not fighting back you back off after a few shots. What a piece of sh*t that kid...and his old man...are.

Still don't know why the other goalie let him walk up and pull of the mask and wail on him.

7 games for the kid, 5 for the Dad. Both should be out for a year.

WE? You're one of them?

where do you live?

Yep, I'm from Montreal born and raised and am a die-hard Habs fan. I was actually one of the Habs fans who infiltrated the Banknorth Garden last year. Good times

I was at a playoff game a few years ago, B's vs. Canadiens. A few Habs fans were near us...they were ok for the most part, but some were fkn obnoxious. They went beyond cheering their team, and they got a little bit personal with a few of the more vocal B's fans . I was surprised they didn't get doused with beer (maybe the beer price was a deterant).

I don't care what a team's history is, you don't go into another teams building and outwardly TRY to piss off the home crowd...it's just plain rude. Cheer for your team? I'm all for it. But deliberately antogonize? I don't like that and I'd have thought an organization with supposed class would be better represented.

Of course the truth is there are a few bad apples in every crowd and that's likely the case in the instance I'm referring to.

I agree. When I went there were a few Habs fans who got too liquored up and picked a fight with security after the game. Personally, I just go to support my team on the road, not to taunt the fans who are there to cheer their hometown team. I cheered without taunting fans when the Habs scored and I kept my mouth shut and expected the same treatment from the B's fans when they scored and I got that respect.

Last year the I was at the last regular season game at MSG, and it was Rangers vs. Habs, the game the Rangers clinched a playoff spot. Montreal had their contingent in the Garden, and the fans were pretty obnoxious throughout. Rangers won in regulation, so it wasn't too bad.

That said, I'm not too fond of Canadien fans. They're a little over the top when it comes to booing an offsides or penalty call when it is blatantly correct, but against Montreal. I thought a hockey town would be a little more educated than that, and not whine so much. (Obviously not directed toward you, BoSox).

I give them credit for being lively though. It's one of the few arenas where the fans can impact the game.

There are a good contingent of Canadiens fans who are intelligent but I work for the sports radio station here in Montreal and there are more than our fair share of idiot callers so when those idiots go to games....and get liquored up....they become even more idiotic

I used to go to a lot Bruins games when they'd play Hartford in the mall.

At times it was almost like a home game for the Bruins due to huge contingents of B's fans. For the most part it was both fan bases cheering for their teams. There were some knuckleheads, though, that felt it appropriate to antagonize...and some pretty ugly scenes erupted from the animosity.

I saw one Hartford fan get pelted with a beer as he walked down the stairs...and he was a big dude. He went after the guy that did it, and that guy ran like a pussy...as the Htd fan went back down the stairs, a B's fan ran up behind him and kicked him in the back...and ran away. It was disgusting and cowardly. No one would take this guy on face to face.

Yes there are douche bags firmly entrenched within every team's fan base.

the game the above mentioned colleague refers to is gone forever

those guys woked in the offseason for the money

they hung out locally and they cared

the old canadiens were the yankees on ice

they dont even have a frenchman on the current team do they?

the 71 b's may have been the best ever but the c's got them in the semis

the 77 c's may have been the best ever but the b's took them to hell and back in 7 games ended in an ot goal and tied on a power play goal for too many men on the ice

i havent seen it called in may since

hockey is full of non commital euros who play for the buck and the heart is lacking in so many teams its just a different sport

Steve Begin, Francis Bouillon, Mathieu Dandenault, Guillaume Latendresse, Maxim Lapierre, Patrice Brisebois

All I hate about the Habs is Kovalev, used to DESPISE Ribeiro, and the current coach, because he just looks like a complete pussy. Other than that have had no problems with any fans, or experiences to talk about.

Steve Begin' date=' Francis Bouillon, Mathieu Dandenault, Guillaume Latendresse, Maxim Lapierre, Patrice Brisebois[/quote'] So what you're saying is there aren't any French Montreal Canadiens?
Posted
I mean, obviously the Habs aren't gonna be 100% French Canadian anymore since back in the day, they had first dibs on every French Canadian coming into the NHL and if that was still the case today, they'd be loaded with French Canadians

i said there wernt any...that i knew of

i freely admit i have no idea who's who outside the ruskie who makes 8M and Joe Thorton winning scoring titles and mvps after we trade him...mid season.

of course i havent watched 5 periods of regular season hockey on tv in 5 years

i have watched a few live games but i just find it.....

sad i guess?

anyone who cares about bruins hockey these days i give credit to

id suck 10 cocks on center ice before i spent 5 f***ing cents on the nhl and its expansionist programs of declining talent

i will say this

the game is opening up a bit

i notice the over/unders are at 5,maybe 6 these days?

9 game totals of 47.5 are common.

everyone under 35 laughs in mock belief when i get boozin and teary eyed for the days of oreilly going into the crowd, millbury bashing a guy over the head with his own shoe...sanderson climbing over the plexi glass, orr and schoenfeld going thru the gate at the end of the period at the aud in buffalo, crashing out onto the tarmac where the zamboni was...esposito beating the piss out of the filthy czecks that chicago had, horst kinderchuk? comes to mind....keith magnussens boxing lessons??

oreilly and schultz dropping the gloves....at the opening face off?

andre moose dupont, the ugliest man in the history of athletics,so ugly they used his negative on his hockey card....

i used to care but it will take not only a bruin revival but an entire overhaul of the sport including the death of gary bettman to get me to spend again

good to see the habs back by the way

i figure by 2010 they'll be playing in sanantonio

Bruins tied for the 6th spot right now with, I think, 2 other teams (which means they could easily be 8th as well).

If they wind up playing the Habs in the 1st round they're likely done. Actually they're likely done no matter who they play, but I'd like to see them vs. Carolina if possible.

a few years back the b's were a 1 seed playing the habs and montreal dismantled them as if it were the old days

this b's team has some solid youngsters and a bit of muscle but if they intend on moving on into the summer they need to get their goalie hotter than a bulls dick.

unfortunetly they havent been consistant all year

theyve also been completely annihilated by injuries. Claude Julien has done a tremendous job coaching that team

Even with Bergeron in the line-up, this team is just not that talented.

I agree, which makes it even more amazing that they've found ways to win all year. I don't expect much from them in the playoffs but the fact that they aren't in the basement of the East is amazing to me

Posted

agreed

i recognize some of the names

is doug riseboro still in the fold over there?

ha

i root for them for no other reason than i like to see the teams i recognize win

when the stanley cup arrived in orange county and st pete did anyone notice?

have the blackhawks folded yet?

is billy ray still their coach?

have they reversed the muldoon curse?

the answer would be no for all of the above. but it is good to see teams like Montreal, Pittsburgh and Detroit at the top of their respective conferences as opposed to Carolina, Tampa Bay, Anaheim, etc.

No it isn't...not with Montreal anyway. I hate those motherfuc*ers like you wouldn't believe. Next most hated, almost equal to the Habs, would be the Rangers.

A couple sat behind us a few years ago at a B's- Rangers game in Boston...I think it was the '03-'04 season. They were Rangers fans. The B's started beating their asses and this guy and girl started yelling stuff about the Yankees being better than the Sox. I had my kids with me so we obviously took it. Obnoxious bastards they were.
