I hate him.

I didn't even really LOVE him on the Sox, but only liked him. I didn't like the whole "Ididots" think he bestowed upon the Sox.

Posted
I didnt love him either but who knows how game 7 wouldve played out without his 2 homeruns. you gotta respect the role the guy played here and I take comfort knowing we got his best years

this is a very funny topic.

the difference is $12 million, of course he will go.

who wouldn't go for that money to yanks???

be realistic.

i don't hate him, i respect him that he played very well all those years in Red Sox.

i hope he will play well in yanks too but hope yanks won't do well this year :)

Interesting quote from JD today; talking about his own negotiations after hearing about Bronson's demise!

In criticizing Red Sox management for lack of loyalty, Damon cited his own negotiations with the team.

"I bought a house that I could not afford at the time, in Boston because they said, `We're going to keep you, we'll get something done real soon.' This was right after we won the World Series [in 2004]. Obviously, that never happened. After they didn't come to me during the [2005] season, my loyalty to them wasn't there anymore either. I felt the loyalty from them was gone. ...

"Unfortunately, the loyalty of the fans always stays. You try not to be bitter through life, because I've learned you just shouldn't be that way. I've learned to accept it. I hope the [Red Sox] fans accept it, because now another guy they loved is gone."

"The biggest thing that enticed me about the Yankees is knowing that Derek Jeter is going to be here five more years, [Alex Rodriguez] is going to be here five more years, Jorge Posada's going to be here. Bernie Williams is going to be here as long as he wants. I believe they're going to make a big effort to sign Gary Sheffield. Jason Giambi is here three more years.

"That core is something that enticed me a lot. The core in Boston, unfortunately, is coming to an end."

Talking about the FO philosophy:

"They have their plans, and they have their computers, and they believe that's right," Damon said. "Unfortunately, computers don't judge a person's heart.

"Getting along with the younger kids and helping them along, unfortunately, computers don't [evaluate] that. As important as I was to that team, Billy Mueller was just as important. Kevin Millar was just as important. Certain players have numbers that might be sexy, but what's lost is when you get a good core of guys, it goes under the radar."

Damon keeps pissing me off more than more with his comments. It's Damon's fault he didn't stay in Boston, they offered him a long term deal at $10 mil a year. The Yankees just overpaid him like they do all their free agents and he took that deal of his own free will.

his comments keep getting stupider and stupider

Damon's incessant comments about all things Boston makes it pretty clear that he's not entirely comfortable with the decision he made. If, as he says, he's "moved on", then why can't the guy have a microphone in his face without spouting off about Boston? He had a choice for happiness at a lower salary or remorse at a higher one. He took remorse and should just learn how to deal with it. Yankee fans, enjoy your scorned woman the next four years.

I still believe that the yankers made a great FO move! They knew of the one offer from the sox and then gave JD that huge offer, but told him he had 4 hours to accept it or it was off the table! JD couldn't get a hold of the sox FO to see what their final offer would be, and with the whole team basically being changed in the offseason he thought they prob didn't want him that much--so in the spur of the moment took what seemed like (and was $$$$ wise) the best offer.

It has really seemed since then, that he has been trying to convince himself that he did the right thing. I remember hearing this from one of the players a while ago, but don't remember who. (mueller mabey?) With all his subsequent comments it really seems to reinforce that theory. I truly still believe that if the yankers wouldn't have put that "window" on the offer and he had time to talk to the sox, that he would have signed for less!

Oh well, enjoy the toilet Johnny!

He could have signed for less. The 4/40 deal was already on the table. Call me crazy, but I don't believe one word of his "I'd have signed for $46.." crap. He went for the money, which is fine, but I'm pretty sure he would have went for the money regardless of the gap.

I believe the sox had put a deadline for thier deal and it had already passed. ( i may be wrong though). This is all theory of course, but i still believe he wanted to stay and thought the sox would come up from their initial offer of 4/40. The sox are on record as saying their ceiling for JD was 4/44 and if they offererd that then i think he would have taken it. I still think that yankers did a good job of putting that 4 hour window on the deal----he didn't know what to do and couldn't think strait and made a rash decision based on what was in front of his face. Let's also not forget that Boras is his agent and i am sure he was telling him to take the deal!

Well when the media asks him about his thoughts on what the SOx are doing, he's going to comment. It would just be better to say "no comment, i'm over here now" but that's not the case.

Are you calling New York a toilet? So now, the greatest city in the world is a toilet?

I didn't really like damon when he was on the red sox. but i would say that he should know better that the red sox fans wouldn't like him if he went to the yankees. no matter how much money, or how great he was or will be. it's kind of simple, athletes love money even if that makes fans think he is a tratior.i will boo him when i see him in a game against him. but I know why he did it.

New York is a great city, but it is typical of New Yorker's who have been to few, if any, of the great cities of the world to proclaim New York as "the greatest city in the world."

Um...it's not just New Yorkers that proclaim it that, thats a common nickname for New York. The media, food, diversity, culture, financial (etc) capital of the world.

I love him, granted I want him to hit .150 w/ no homers, I still love the guy.

I'm totally with you. Can't blame the guy for making a business decision...but I hope it blows up in the face of the NYY...but I wouldn't wish any harm on him, at least physical harm.

Yes Parisians commonly refer to NY as the greatest city in the world. Afterall, Paris has little culture, terrible food, and no diversity. In fact, the world community has bestowed this honor on NYC. Where is NY's education system ranked? I am a New Yorker (probably for longer than anyone on these boards) so I am familiar with the obnoxious attitude that NYC (more specifically Manhattan) is the world and nothing else matters. BTW Manhattan-ites would not be caught dead in the Bronx except to go to the bedpan of a stadium that I like to refer to as the House Built by A Fat Former Red Sox Pitcher.

I thought so, but your post had so little content other than the personal attack that I really couldn't be sure. It really was a pointless post.

As far as cities, I lived in Beantown for a little while, love the city. NY is a nice city as well, but it is a little too big.

As far as Paris, who gives a flying f*** about that city. They are lucky that their white flag factory is in business or all those panty waste wusses over there would have to actually do some work. Nothing like eating cream sauces, smokin butts and not shaving armpit hair (for women). Fug them. France blows....
