Simple RSR, he's a Yankee fan, not a baseball fan. He just wants his guys back in the Yankee camp ASAP. Not I said the baseball guy. I liked the idea of this tournament from the get go, and after watching the first few games (last week and today), I love this tourney. I'll bet by the end of it, several of the dropouts will be kicking themselves for not participating.

That Dominican/Venezuela game today was AMAZING...and I definetly predicted Papi going yard in the 9th.

As for the US game, the pitching-AMAZING. I fell asleep during the game (long day) so I didnt really get to see it all, but from what I saw and what I read in the box score..just pure filth. Cant wait for more.

Talk about hitting the nail on the head. If A-rod, jeter, or damon, or any star player for that matter, get hurt playing in this ********, it should be abolished immediately.

I was cringing today when I saw Tejada limping.

This would DEFINATELY be better suited for November.

Still it gets you pumped and the great part is the season is in a month idk if it would be

you dont know if what would be what?

Yeah I didn't really agree with the entire WBC, I guess I let George sway my opinion a bit? Anyway, now that I have seen it I LOVE it. I think it's a really great idea. Go USA! Woo hoo!! :)

Tough to translate, but I think it's that end of the season timing might not be better. I tend to agree with that. With the games in March, the players are rested and it doesn't cut into their normal off-time. Plus, with the quality of play being as good as it has been, it is a great primer for opening day.

If the games are in November there are a few potential problems. First, I think less players would be willing to cut into their down-time. Second, a 162 game season is a grind, and while their skills are sharp, they are worn down by the end of October. Last, I think it markets better during ST.

I agree with all that you're saying, and understand it. However, I would prefer to have it in November for several reasons. Now let me just state beforehand, that it really doesnt matter much to me either way. I am not so against having it now to the point that I would go and protest, and complain and whatnot. It's just that, if you asked me, I would probably have it in November. Reasons being,

- It brings more of a championship/big game atmosphere to the table, with the World Series just previously ending.

- It would appeal to fabs more, as it would provide more time for baseball. The fact that its during spring training now really doesnt provide it with it's own time period to be made a big deal out of. People would make a big deal out of spring training even if there was no WBC right now. I know thiat reason is hard to understand, but I really can't explain it any better. Sorry. But bascially what im trying to say is that, it just allows it to have it's own time frame, and allows fans to have more time to enjoy baseball. Spring Training is going to be February-March regardless, giving baseball popularity during that time period. Putting the WBC in November gives it it 's own time, and the fans another chance to enjoy baseball, and allow baseball popularity at a time of year when it's not normally popular. Having this every 4 years, plsu the MLB/NPB All Star Travel Series every 2 years, November would be as established a baseball month as February/March is.

- The players are all in better, game ready shape. People argue that they'll be worn out come November, but honestly, with th eexception of the players who participated in the World Seires, all the players will have had plenty of time to rest up, plus the time after the World Series until the start of the WBC to rest up. And the pitchers would have all that time to rest as well.

- It's an event held once every four years. If the player's have a problem with taking time out of their normal off-time once every four years to represent their country, then their probably not the players you would want respresenting it anyway. Although I cant see these Latin players having a problem with it. They have way too much pride and love to play baseball too much to complain about something like that.

..ok, so like I said, I would prefer a November WBC, but it really doesnt matter to me. I am satisfied with this as well.

But, you, like others, have voiced concerns about player injury during the WBC. Injuries are much more likely to happen when fatigued, and the players will be much more fatigued in November than they will be at any time of the year. Plus, I'm a baseball nut, but I don't get too jazzed up about ST. The games are all about going through progressions and aren't competitive. I think a little competitive ball before the season kicks off is a nice taste of the six months ahead.

Right, however, with the rest that they will receive, they might not be as fatigued, and if an injury does occur, there is less of a chance that the player misses any regular season time as they can use the rest of the offseason to recover. If an injury happens now, the player is screwed for the start of the season.

And thats a good point as well about the competitive competition prior to the start of the season. Thats not really a factor to me, however. I get crazy for spring training. I will watch ANY spring training game that is on, just to see the top prospects and whatnot. But still a very good point.

I think that makes the most sense ATG13, and that seems to be the majority opinion of those who have proposed fixes for the event's timing.

How about getting rid of the all-star game(which is stale anyway), cutting out a couple of games during the regular season(Make it a 2 week thing) and have it during the all-star break?

I think thats a good idea, but taking games away from the season is going to be something everyone is going to have to agree on, and I really can't see owners giving up the revenue they'd make from those games, so we can have the WBC in the middle of the season. I do however believe that would be the best way to get this thing done, and make it even better, considering everyone would be in mid season form ... I just can't see games being taken out of the season.

I have yet to weigh in on this, but I'll do it now.

Steinbrenner is a pompous jackass who worries only about his country when it suits him publicly. If players want to go represent their country, who the hell is he to pull that bush league stunt with the sign. That's like getting mad at his employees because they have jury duty and don't want to delay it. The old fart has no concept of love for country, and his hypocritical ass was on the USOC once. I'm proud as hell of the guys we got from the Yankees repping our country. George needs to shut up and go crawl in a hole with his fat dinner table buddies in Tampa.

This is the first year of the WBC, I don't expect it to go smoothly at all. But it's a first step towards something that will be absolutely great for baseball in the future. To have teams from South Africa and China, places where baseball is as popular as a homosexual in Alabama, that is something really worth all the trouble for. The impact will be felt years form now when kids form those places take a interest in baseball and develop their interests to a point where they're an option in the draft.

Uh, George had nothing to do with the sign; if he had, "Yankees" would have spelt correctly.

Not going to respond to the rest of the post, because I felt brain cells dying and lost a few IQ points just reading it.

I'm sure he had nothing to do with it, he's been ripping the WBC a new one complaining about this and that.

I'm sorry you felt reading about the continued international exposure of baseball would lower your IQ somehow.

You're a complete moron if you think George Steinbrenner would let a sign go up with "Yankees" misspelled. The guy who demands perfection for, well, everything would let something with such an obvious mistake go on display for the public to see? Please.

I'm sorry you somehow think supporting meaningless games and supporting your country are one in the same.

Baseball is no longer an Olympic sport. The WBC is the only thing close to an international competition for baseball. Not onlly that, instead of college players, you have the very best of the best (or at least some of them) playing in these games.

I don't think the players participating in these think it's meaningless. They obviously are playing with a real passion, and for any baseball fan, what could be better than all stars competing as hard as they can?

Because there are these things called "editors" see George wouldn't think that he'd have to proof read something a professional wrote, and another professional checked.
