Im with you there on that. If such a rebound of a season happens, why not resign him to 2 seasons to bridge the gap to another home grown Red Sox prospect Jed Lowrie

----------------------

hey "schillingouttheKs', I had found Gonzo's hitting chart, http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/stats/mlb_individual_player_hitting_chart.jsp?playerID=136460&statType=1

Just like Lowell & Loretta, he's a dead pull hitter and just about all of his doubles (2 Hrs indluded) in Pro Player Stadium went to left field. Some biased people dont like to hear the cold hard facts. The trio of Lowell, Loretta, & Gomzo will make their fair share of dents on the monster ;)

'Atta boy. Thanks.

EDIT: Like I've said time and time again...Mr. Lowell, meet Mr. Green Monster. Now I can say Mr. Gonzalez, meet Mr. Green Monster.

I agree with that but none the less...I would rather see him feast on bad pitching than stuggle against bad pitching. I have no problems if people want to get excited and I hope Alex Gonzalez can get excited...perhaps let this carry over to the MLB.

The FO has slowly put together a quielty potent offense that could do circles around last year's offense. Loretta, Lowell, and Gonzo could all have big years if you add in the variables and combined they could get up to 60 HRs from just those three, to compliment Manny & Ortiz so that we don't have to solely rely on them. Also lets not forget about Varitek who can still knock the cover off the ball. This is what would be great to see from this lineup:

Crisp-15 HRs

Loretta-15 HRs

Ortiz-35 HRs

Manny-40 HRs

Varitek-20 HRs

Lowell-20 HRs

Nixon-20 HRs

Youkilis-15 HRs

Gonzalez-15 HRs

Same goes for the pitching, who fi they reach their full potential or even come clsoe could be one of the most complete staffs in the league.

at the least Ortiz will be at 130. I just dont see a "DRAMATIC" drop in his RBI count. Loretta is by far a better #2 hitter than Renteria as he bodes a career .301 avg & .365 OBP. Such numbers are likely to repeat for 2006.

As for Crisp, each season his OBP has gotten better. 2005 being at .345, this season we could see it at .355+. Keep in mind on the road away from the Jacobs Field (pitcher's park), he posted a .370 OBP. They will get on base for plenty papi to knock them in

No, he will be a better hitter and baserunner. No, no one will ever field the position like Ozzie. He was one of a kind; simply a fantastic shortstop. I paid my way to see him play; the only player I ever went to see just for defense.

Loretta will get on base, but his injury to his hand and then his complete lack of power afterwards scared the padres. A 2 hitter needs to be able to drive home runs and move runners, loretta is a good contact guy so he should be able to move runners, but I dont see him as the rbi type....

That makes no sense, a 2nd batter's job is to either move the leadoff guy along or get on base as well, hence giving the third and clean-up spot more RBI opportunities. Power in no way a needed component, otherwise that's like sayin if papi had speed we could put him in the #2 spot.

Im with you there City. Ive never heard that analogy before. Loretta is a better #2 hitter than Renteria, so thats a non-issue. A 2 hitter needs to move the runners along and get on base, not hit HRs (thats an added bonus). The 3 & 4 hitters, now thats whose main goal is to hit one out.

Even still.

Mark Loretta's SLG in an extreme pitchers' park (and a hand injury): .347

Edgar Renteria's SLG in a hitters' park: .385

Assuming Loretta's healthy (like he says he is), he should easily get that slugging as high as Edgar's last year if not higher. Plus, with David behind him, he's going to get pitches to hit.

Outside of BA, Renteria pretty much kills Loretta in every other offensive stat. Plus Renteria doesnt get hurt and has over 1,000 ABs than Loretta

Career Rate Stats

Renteria: .288/.345/.399/.743, 61 AB/HR, 7.2 AB/K, 34.9 AB/GIDP

Loretta: .301/.365/.408/.773, 68 AB/HR, 9.5 AB/K, 38.5 AB/GIDP

I fail to see how ER kills Loretta. It takes him 7 less ABs to hit a tater, that's it. Comparable SLG, but Loretta is better at making contact, hits for a higher average, and gets on base at a higher rate while hitting into less DPs. Care to rephrase?

Renteria had played hurt this last season, so that was noticeable

Wells there's also Loretta's higher career OBP of .365 compared to Rent's .345.

Loretta's bound to hit 12-16 Hrs. Better than Rent's mark of just 8.

Loretta also K's a lot less

Im having a hard time thinking that Rent is the better #2 hitter

Posted
Well Rents is basically the prototype for 2 hitter. He has gap power. He has enough speed. He can move runners along with bunts/sacs. He may not produce as well as Loretta in that role, but I think if your just looking for the better man to fill the #2 hitter role ... it's Rents.

Wow, that is one huge contradiction. Call me crazy, but I'll take the guy that produces more as a #2 hitter than the guy that "fits the role" better (whatever the f*** that means) 10 times out of 10.

moving runners has an element of power to it. Your leadoff guy is meant to be a singles, OBP, and speed guy. Your 2 hitter should be a high AVG guy with doubles potential, because your ideal situation is to get a man into scoring position, and if the leadoff man fails to get on base, you would ideally like to have a guy who can get into scoring position by himself. Loretta is actually built more like a leadoff guy without the speed....

call me crazy but getting on base is big part for a #2 hitter. Loretta trumps Rent. Some scuting reports as one of the best hitters in that position. Lest also keep in mind that Rent at Fenway Park produced just a .266 avg, .325 OBP

batting in #2 position

Mark Loretta

664 games- (.299 avg) (.361 OBP) (.404 SLG) (.765 OPS) 136 Doubles, 9 Triples

Edgar Renteria

749 games- (.285 avg) (.340 OBP) (.385 SLG) (.725 OPS) 149 Doubles, 11 Triples
