crisp or reed but not at the cost of marte, papelbon, or lester. im sorry but those players are valued highly in the baseball world and should be untradeable unless you are getting a star player in return something that neither crisp or reed are. i don't going with a stop gap like a jeff davanon. i see nothing wrong with that if the red sox are going to say that we are not trading our farm which they should not. its been a long time since the red sox have had a farm system like the one we have right now and they should not just throw it away for players like coco crisp who are fine players but not star players.

Where do I disagree with myself? Just because he would be moved to a COF spot in order to clear room for a prospect doesn't mean he's a stopgap. Stopgaps are acquired to be on the team only for the time it takes to find their replacement. Crisp would still be vaulable to the team at another position, so he's not a stopgap. It's good thing that you laugh at your own jokes there, funny guy, because no one else does.
Oh, so you can't be a stop gap just for CF? In order to be a stopgap you have to leave the team altogether? Really? Do you have a link for this interpretation of the meaning of "stopgap?"

I'm tired of taking you and JSinger to school on every post.

If we start the season with DaVannon in CF, I would conclude that losing Damon was a mistake. Red Sox financial statements aside, I'll be watching a much weaker team. That is my criterion for mistake.

Once again, semantics.

Taken me to school? By what criteria? Get off your high horse.

Just joshing. :D, but not semantics. You will ocassionally agree with me, so you shouldn't torture your own logic to prove otherwise.

Since we didn't see eye-to-eye on the meaning of stopgap, I'd say it's pure semantics.

But there was no disagreement that Crisp will only play CF for 1-3 years. I call it a stop gap. You do not. After that, we have a light hitting corner OF at the expense of a guy that is a potential offensive force. Do we agree yet?

Sure, Crisp's stick leaves something to be desired for a COF spot. But, a lot of players that start their career being slight of build fill out in their late 20's and develop power later. Crisp is showing this trend, meaning he has the potential to hit 25-30 HRs by the time he's in a COF spot. Do you agree?

Not to butt in, but I think A7H and ORS both have a point here. Crisp could fill out and hit 25 HR, but then again he might not. The only thing I worry about here is that by the time we shift Crisp to left or right, as A7H said, we have a below-average to average hitting COF and by that time, Andy Marte is putting up 35 HR in Cleveland.

Would I do the trade? Not if it was straight up. If Cleveland was giving us another quality player or decent prospect in return, I might. It's a tough decision.

And Marte could turn into a 30-40 HR 3B, but then again he could not. Both cases involve risk; both have potential. Do I love this trade proposal? No, but I don't hate it either.

I could go along with that. I haven't seen this guy Marte, so I really wouldn't know if he is worth it. Hopefully, the FO will make the right decision.

it looks like its too late....evil tony from the herald is reporting the sox are on the verge of a deal with cleveland for crisp contigent on the Guardians acquiring jason michaels from the phillies. i really hope this deal falls through.

Hey guys, anybody hear anything else on the proposed Crisp trade? The Red Sox home page had nothing this morning. I just hope this doesn't just turn out to be smoke. It is high time we have our tentative team coming together. Spring training is just not that far away.

::sigh:: This is so f***ing stupid... giving up Marte, one of the highest rated prospects in baseball (and soon to take over for 950 year old Mike Lowell after a year or two) for a box of cereal. Great. I've never particular liked Crisp, and I can't believe how stupid its going to sound every time a ball is hit to center, "Coco Crisp goes back and grabs it"... god...

I know its an irrational reason, but seriously - how stupid is that going to sound. Dumb reasons for not liking Crisp aside... Reed would be the smart man's answer - wouldn't have to give up Marte (who I think every organization in baseball would hold on to for dear life EXCEPT us and Atlanta of course) for him, you get one of the best defenders in center in the bigs, and a guy with some excellent offensive upside.

And best of all, he's not named after a f***ing box of cereal. God what a stupid name.

How stupid is the name "Babe" for a grown man.

Pretty stupid, but at least I don't think of a retarted cartoon character and a brown colored cardboard box containing cereal when I hear "babe".
