I wouldn't rather have Reed than Crisp (although I'm open to an attempt to change my mind), and I wouldn't want to give up Marte and Mota for Crisp OR Reed. I'd rather give them up for Crisp though, if it is in the cards.

Crisp had the 4th best VORP for AL LFs last year (39.3), Reed had a 4.9 in CF. While its not entirely relavent, Crisp's 39.3 would have placed him 3rd as CF, behind Sizemore and Damon, and ahead of Vernon Wells, Dejesus, Hunter, Kotsay and Rowand. Again, its not completely translatable like that, but it should give an idea of Crisp's potential. he's young (26) and has lots of tools.

Yeah, but Reed's only had one big season in the majors, last year, so his numbers aren't going to compare to Crisp's. But just looking at Reed's first year, his OBP is pretty high. And fans in Seattle think he really is going to get much better. I mean, I can see the argument for Crisp, and after looking at the stats, he is pretty good. But I think Reed has more potential.

This Tavarez guy is a gamer, almost a mental-gamer which should pump everyone up in the clubhouse, or start controversy. I'd love to see this guy pitch to some big time AL hitters (ARod, Miggy) just because he loves to win. He could be good especially with Varitek, because most likely he'll listen to Varitek to get these guys out. He is a good big game guy we need back in the pn along with Timlin, this way Timlin doesn't make anymore record number of appearences.

Timlin

Foulke

Mota

Tavarez

Hansen

List of possible clsoers is getting bigger and bigger. I like this idea because it puts some added pressure on whoever is closing because they know if they f*** up theyll get pulled for one of those guys (Hansen possible).

Give props to the Front Office for getting Tavarez to a two year deal. This guy wanted at least four when negotiating with the Mets and Yankees.

and his agent is Scott Boras

As it stands right now, Hansen is being set to start off 2006 in Pawtucket. That according to Gordon edes, Ben Cherington & Jed Hoyer, and others have stated that because they want him to work on his mechanics

Current 2006 pitching staff

Curt Schilling

Josh Beckett

*David Wells

Jonathan Papelbon

Matt Clement

Tim Wakefield

Bronson Arroyo

Lenny DiNardo

Rudy Seanez

Guillermo Mota

Mike Timlin

Julian Taveraz

Keith Foulke

Use these guys for a SS/CF trade in my opinion.

I wouldn't mind seeing Ellsbury in Right when hes ready if we're set in center. Nixon is a free agent at the end of the year. Right field is pretty big in fenway and it would be nice to have a player with center fielder range out there.

I'd rather have a bigger stick in RF, no matter how big RF is at Fenway. Unless he develops some power, Ellsbury is a CF option only, IMO. If the team is set in CF when Jacoby is ready, then they should trade him to fill whatever holes they have at the time.

They won't trade DiNardo because he has more value on the team than he does in a trade. In a trade DiNardo doesn't really make anyones eyes light up but he has the potential to be a solid pitcher. Being a lefty I think that puts it further out of the picture.

I would be very surprised if Mota was traded. Very surprised. This likely doesn't point to anything except the FO having a lack of confidence in Keith Foulke.

I like this move. If our pitchers are healthy, we should have a very nice rotation and a very nice bullpen. Now, get a quality CF/SS/Leadoff man and we are still a contender.

This guy is a total fruit loop. Two years ago against Houston in the NLCS he totally flipped out. busted up his hand, punched the wall or somthing, i forget. i dunno i dont like it.

Thats what the staff was missing last season, no pitcher's intimidation (aside from Papelbon). We need a Pedro like pitcher who isnt afraid of going high and inside to make the batter not too comfortable. Im not asking Tavarez to knock anybody out or anything, just a simple pitch that makes the batter fall on his back can change directions. Like example Matsui becoming null and void on offense in the 04 ALCS after Pedro gave him a present.

I think that this was a wise pick-up. Given the fact that Timlin is getting older and has thrown a rediculous # of innings the past few seasons, I think that Tavarez is going to give his arm the rest that he needs.

Though Tavarez is good, I can easily see this guy pulling a Kevin Brown and punching a wall if he happens to have a sub-par outting...Walls always win.

As long as he doesn't hit a booing fan.

I still think that was one of the biggest reasons we one that series

You know, all the talk by critics has been about Manny and Damon this offseason, but hardly anybody's said anything about the improvements the team has made in the bullpen. Providing they all stay healthy, the addition of Tavarez only makes the bullpen better.

Seanez should be solid too. Timlin's always good, and if Foulke can return to form we've got one of the top bullpens.

dont forget Mota. dave Wallace was his pitching coach in LA when he was one of the premier set up man, hopefully wallace can set things right

Things weren't wrong with Mota, he got hurt and then McKeon just never pitched him in a key situation. Bullpen guys run on adrenaline. McKeon never put Mota in one adrenaline pumping situation all year long because his curve wasn't sharp in the weeks before hitting the DL. Mota is very good. People forget that, and now there are Mota trade rumors. I highly doubt mota gets dealt for Crisp. Crisp sucks in CF.

I wouldnt go to say Crisp suck in cf, he is an upgrade to say the least of arm throwing power over Damon's. He also has comitted 6 errors in 188 games played in center. Besides that, several reports released have indicated Crisp is still the top target the Sox want as their center fielder, as well as leadoff hitter.

Both Peter Gammons and Gordon Edes have written that Crisp is our top priority in CF. It would seem more than a few people disagree with you and your assessment of Crisp sucking in CF. He's not a gold glover, but his bat more than makes up for it.

Yeah, I gotta disagree with this too ksushi, sorry man. Crisp would be a great pick up for this team, easily the best CF option out there not named Jones, Edmonds, Hunter, etc.,

As our team gets younger we're going to need experienced but YOUNG players to be the foundation. I'm thinking Crisp, Beckett, Papelbon and Youkilis could be the core of players. I know its been analysed over and over again, but Crisps numbers last year, at the age of 25-26, were really quite good. If we could get a .300/18/80 CF with decent speed for the next few years that would be great. Especially if it doesn't cost us a top prospect to make it happen.

He sucks in CF. His lack of errors are mainly due to the fact that he can't get to most balls. Here are his career stats in the traditonal categories, .982 F%, 2.42 Range Factor, .866 Zone Rating. Compare that to Damon's career numbers, .991 F%, 2.66 RF, .903 ZR. By Rate, a runs-based sabermetric stat, he allows 12 more runs per 100 games than Damon does.

EDIT: This is the first time I've looked at his career CF fielding stats. Needless to say, this puts me firmly in the Jeremy Reed camp.
