If they draft Reggie Bush, they're dumber than I ever expected. He's a fantastic player and I'd love him on my team, but they already have a very good RB. They need help elsewhere. A good RB is nothing without a good O-Line -- and there's is among the worst ever. As for the 49ers... why couldn't they just throw games like the Texans did? Ugh.

I don't exoect the Texans to pick bush number 1, and I think it'd be smart fro them to trade down to the Number 2 or number 3...reason, they need DeBrickShaw Furgeson, and Olineman, who will still be avalable with the second or 3rd pick, so that way, they can get him, as well as another pick or player. And I believe they just signed Davis to a new contract

Are you joking: Pass up possibly one of the greatest running backs of ALL TIME so we can get help with what, the O-Line? Pick Reggie Bush, then you can either use Bush or Davis to get some help with everything else. There are seven rounds... trust me, the Texans will address their needs.

And Soxfan#1: We can make a wager as next season gets closer. I'm thinking the Texans make a run at the playoffs, but with the Jaguars and Colts in the AFC South, it's always tough. It depends how much our offense improves. I think Carr will be a much better QB if his receiving corps can stay healthy (and Reggie Bush in the backfield will help). If the offense can stay on the field longer, that will mean that we won't be last in the league with 431 points allowed against us again. All the puzzle pieces will fall into place.

You do realize he's never even donned an NFL Jersey, right? A little early to call him one of the all-time greats. As for your acting like the O-Line is unimportant... that's just ridiculously stupid. Football games are won and lost in the trenches! That's common knowledge! Since their inception, they've had, like, 28 rounds worth of drafting and they've still never fixed this problem. Without an O-Line, Reggie Bush will be one of the biggest busts in League History. To have success running the football in the NFL, you need a good offensive line -- you don't need a great RB (see: Denver Broncos).

very true about denver, they were close this season to having 2 running backs rush for over 1000 yards each.

Or, on the contrary, you could look at Green Bay and Samkon Gado. We all know that GB offensive line blew anyway.

But yeah, as a member of an offensive line, I can safely say that it's the most unappreciated, yet most vital part of the team on the field. The honest truth is the linemen have to be the second smartest people on the field, behind the QB, with all the blocking assignments and reading LB blitzes, along with D-line formation shifts, etc etc.

True, Tatum Bell/Mike Anderson aren't exactly great RB's, but it's not like they're bad either. Ball protection is the most crucial part of being a RB, not to mention Tatum Bell has some ridiculous speed.

The bottom line is, ANY type of running back (all-star, decent, sucky) can charge through any given hole produced by the line. When's the line finally going to earn some respect. The o-line also has some incredibly large contracts ($$ wise).

Oh without a doubt. But I think Tatum Bell would be a very good RB on any team. I think if he's the feature back eventually, he'll become a 1,500 yard rusher, easy.

The Broncos have turned two FB's into 1,500 yard RB's. Absolutely amazing. Ron Dayne, thought of as a colossal bust (which is true), is averaging, like, 5 YPC. Olandis Gary, nothing outside of Denver, rushed for 1,500. You really have to question whether there's a RB in the league that Mike Shanahan can't make look like a pro bowler, in this system. You get a good, or great O-Line, you don't need a star RB -- plus, they can protect your QB.

Reggie Bush would like great in a Texans uniform -- but a RB is nothing without an O-Line.

I think Gado's advantage was that he didn't play until midseason. Everyone else is fatigued, has some sort of nagging injuries etc., and he comes in completely healthy and refreshed.

Hope it doesn't end up like past wagers.

This is one of those situations where Houston would be better trading down to about the 3rd or 4th pick, getting other picks and drafting what they really need in D'Brickashaw Ferguson(Offensive Tackle from Virginia). But because of fan pressure they will prob pick Bush and stink again next year because they cant block anyone.

no way they pass bush up. he is an electric player. barry sanders did alot of his running without an offensive line.

as See Red said, Bush has never donned an NFL jersey yet so I wont compare him to a top 3 running back of all time. I feel bad for David Carr. How many times has he been sacked for his career now?

Posted
It is a little early to put him in Sanders class, but I think the comparisons are fair. Bush is the most outstanding back to come out in a long time, and when you can take the closest thing to a sure bet in the draft you should do it. The Texans aren't one offensive lineman away from winning it all, so you take the best player on the board. They can trade Davis for an extra pick.

Peyton Manning over his 8 year career has been sacked 156 times. David Carr over his 4 year career has been sacked 208 times. You are wasting David Carr(who was the #1 pick in 02) if you cant protect him. Plus you figure you could get mulitiple picks from another team so all of a sudden your looking at 4 picks in the first 2 rounds. Thats how you make a team better. Just ask the Cowboys and the Vikings about that herschel walker trade. The Vikings gave the Cowboys their dynasty when they traded almost there entire draft for Walker.

Besides, how much playoff success did the Lions have with Barry Sanders? A good running game only does so much to win a Championship.

Somehow I won't put the blame on Barry. A good running game is a damn good foundation for a championship team.

Exactly, with all of the hype Bush has if the Texans were smart they trade Bush for multiple picks and then you build a team that way. All of a sudden you have 4 players with potential on your team as opposed to 1 great one.

I think you have to take the guy with the Tomlinson potential and trade Davis for a second rounder. 3 picks in the first 2 rounds won't hurt them.

and take the major cap hit that Davis would provide if you traded him? They just signed him to a big extension. If they didnt sign him to that extension then thats fine but thats a huge cap hit if they trade him plus theres no garentee they even get a 2nd rounder for him. In fact if the Texans did trade that pick they would prob get a a heck of alot more then just 2 picks. Compare that to what the Chargers got for Eli Manning and the Texans could come away with a total of 6 picks from this draft and next. Some team will be desperate enough to make a trade like that.

The Sanders comparisons, at least in terms of being able to run w/o a great line, are more than fair IMO. Bush is the only player I've seen coming out of college in the last 16 years (Barry came out after '89, right?) that reminds me of him. A back with that kind of ellusiveness can run w/o a line.

ARod2212 is right. Regardless of the Davis situation, you can't pass up an opportunity to take a player that has his potential to impact the game.

And the Giants are hosting a playoff game this week while the Chargers are watching on TV.

In the first season after the trade wasx made the Giants missed the playoffs last year and the Chargers made it. Plus as it turned out the Chargers didnt need Manning and they got Shawn Merrian out of the trade. Good deal for both teams.
