I would love Ichiro. Sure, the power isn't like Manny's (but there IS the occasional grand slam from Ichiro ), but he gots on base virtually every time, we will finally have a stealing threat, AND he can play some sick defense. Really the only player I would be satisfied with in any trade with Manny. Ichiro is FANTASTIC.

Red Sox are apparently interested in Adrian Gonzalez. I think he is a lefty (no positive) so that would be a good split between him and Youk at 1st. I'm suprised the Rangers would want to deal with us now but then again its not exactly our fault.

If we could get Gonzalez for Shoppach it would be a wise move. Shoppach is not going to get any playing time in Boston. Gonzalez is still just 23 and had a geat year in AAA last year. He is also an excellent defensive player.

 

I'd say that this would work for both of us. Gonzalez is stuck behind Texeria and they need a catcher, because I believe they are shopping Liard or they aren't going to resign him ( can't remember exactaly). The same goes for Shoppach in our system.

I don't think manny is all but gone. Do you know how many times ramirez has made an ultimatum like this? Could they trade him, yes, will they? I don't know, I think its up in the air, just like it was a month ago. Manny is not tuned into the same frequency as other people. If he is here, he will play hard and probably won't realize too much what city he is in. In all seriousness, he will play and play hard. He can't hold out, he can't retire, all he can do is hope for a trade. I do think his value will never be as high as it is right now, and I think that there will be some trades seriously discussed, but I don't know the outcome. I don't think he is all but gone.

The Met's would be stupid to give up Wright for anyone. I like the Zito, Swisher idea but there is no way the A's would take on Manny's contract with thier show strig budget. I don't like the Mariner's one because I'm big on guardado.

 

I personally think we should trade him to an NL team for our own benifit. I would trade him to the Mariners if we could get Felix Hernandez in return but that's never going to happen.

I think Boston will end up doing that trade for Adrian Gonzalez, rangers getting Kelly Shoppach. This deal is also probably to clean up Sox's image after the Rockies' debacle that had happened this past summer. Gonzalez was a solid .300 hitting lefty in Triple A and is blocked by Texeira. Wells is still deemed to go to San Diego, in return for dave Roberts and hopefully top reliever Akinori Otsuka. the sox might have to throw in an Abe Alvarez or Adam Stern to assure Otsuka coming over.

 

just before yankee fans start saying thats a lot of prospects being given up. Kelly Shoppach, Abe Alvarez, and Aam Stern arent really looking like they are in the long term plans for Boston.

 

--Kelly Shoppach is major league ready, but would be a waste for him to wait until Varitek's contract is over after 2008.

 

--With the pending trade to get Roberts, that puts Stern out of the realm of possibility. And Sox cant start Stern in Triple A since he's a rule draft 5 guy.

 

--Abe Alvarez, with Sox have Manny and Hansen waiting in the wings. That makes him an odd man out of making the majors with Boston.

Didn't anyone else hear that the Marlins are about to get rid of Delgado to the mets? I might be playing Dr. Obvious right now but wouldn't a Manny for Delgado and Milledge deal make a lot of sense? I mean, that would fill a lot of our holes and give us a power bat int he middle of the lineup that is not named Konerko.

 

It doesn't make up for everything Manny is worth, but we know we're not going to get that no matter what. Delgado is a good RBI guy, will not HURT a lineup. He can protect Ortiz (not as well as Manny) and Milledge will eventually replace Trot or Manny in the OF.

 

It seems like a no brainer, a HUGE trade that is just waiting to happen.

I still think manny will be here in 06. I could be wrong. IMO, I will not do any deal for manny that doesn't bring us back a quality starting pitcher under or around the age of 26. Is that realistic? Eh, it isn't likely, but I wouldn't say its crazy talk. Could it happen? maybe. Not likely, but thats my asking price. I also would NOT give up any prospect in a deal where I trade manny.

 

 

PS - I by no means think that giving up shoppach, alvarez, jesus delgado, sanchez and hanley in an offseason, is excessive. Not when you have Hansen, Delcarmen, Papelbon, Lester, Pedroia, Moss, Murphy, Harvey Garcia and Edgar Martinez.

...money comes out even (going by last year though). Gives us a lineup of:

that clearly will not work. manny's salary is more than double the salary of zito and swisher. the a's are definately not about 20 mill per year sluggers, even if it was the babe himself.

 

it's silly for us to think that a reasonable trade will happen with manny. his contract really puts the other team in the drivers seat. talent wise manny sizes up with almost anyone in the league, but his average range in left field (even at fenway) and his price tag will really make things difficult. do not expect to recieve two above average players for about 10 mill a piece for manny plus a prospect. it's just not worth it unless it's some top prospect like lester, maybe even papelbon (not really considered a spect anymore), hansen etc.

Yeah, I'm not even convinced vlad is actually a professional baseball player. Have you ever been a game hes played in? Did you check him for I.D.? I wouldn't trade manny for him, cause who knows you might be getting some accountant back, who needs an accountant?

i been to a game vlad played in. He hit a double off the green monester, and when he hit it i thought it was gonna be a home run. i never saw a guy hit a ball so hard. If i was the Angels, it would be stupid to trade Vlad for Manny, because Manny is older, slower,and worse on defense. Vlad is fast, has a strong arm, hits almost as well, and can play very good defense.

I would take Manny over Vlad based on consistancy. Now I'm not saying Vlad can't hit...I would take him on my team in a second...but he has injury problems. Still he is great on defense and can hit the ball anywhere the pitcher throws it. As for the remark he can't step up in the playoffs....I recall when he hit a grand slam against us in the ALDS. Not too shabby....the guy is a player but I would still take Manny over him.

Nice thought...but the only reason Arizona was even willing to talk trades for Gonzalez was because of his high salary. They would want a trade where they dump salary, not make it even.

 

But I'm still in total opposition of ANY Manny trade.

Rotoworld: Mets and Red Sox executives have agreed to discuss Manny Ramirez at the winter meetings next week, says Newsday's Jon Heyman. According to the column, Mets GM Omar Minaya recently told one baseball person, "I'm going for it." If so, a deal would pretty much have to involve Lastings Milledge. Aaron Heilman's name is also sure to come up. The Mets would likely want the Red Sox to pay a portion of the $57 million Ramirez is owed over the next three years or at least take Kaz Matsui and/or Kris Benson in return.
