I would like nothing more than seeing Manny again in 2006 but I think an intriguing possibility is to bring Matsui in to play left on a three year deal and trading Manny away for some other characters. How sweet would it be to have a great defensive player like Matsui manning the monster for us. Plus we have all seen what kind of stick he brings to the game. I would love to see the Mizuno bat playing for us as opposed to against us. What do y'all think.

I would rather see another team get Matsui simply to take him from the Yanks. I'm not excited about trading Manny then having Ortiz and Matsui as our big hitters...two lefty hitters. No keep Manny...get a power hitter in either CF or 1B.

agreed...matsui isn't going anywhere in new york..the yankees are going to keep him

What the Sox need to do is keep Manny and get some arms for the pen and an upgrade at first in the form of Konerko or Huff even.

I don't want Matsui here. I REALLY hate him, though he is good. I don't see him leaving NY, though, so it deosn't really matter. But, I don't want to see Manny leave, but if he does, I'd rather have a speedy LF and/or CF and get a power 1B.

im praying for sox to keep manny. he ended this seaon with avg just under 300, 45 HRs (3 grand slams), and 145 RBIs. Him and Ortiz proved again to be the most lethal 3-4 punch, combining for 92 HRs and 193 RBIs. His defense is still valuable to the Sox as he led all outfielders in 2005 with 17 outfield assists.

if sox were to trade with mets for one of their outfielders: there's Mike Cameron who could be injury pron from that collision and is nowhere near of a power hittter with a career .249 avg, Cliff Floyd would be good option but him and Red Sox left on bad notes, Beltran is looking like an overhyped player and who like Manny has a big contract on his belt.

The only way I see us moving Manny is if we get a deal that can't be refused. The last TRUE effort to move Manny was for A-Rod. Those are some pretty big names. I think the player(s) in return would need to be starting pitching or a young talented batter. If you are talking about the Mets then you are talking about David Wright. If you are talking about the Blue Jays you are talking about Roy Halladay. If you are talking about Texas then you might as well discuss Texiera or Young. If you are going to say White Sox then we are discussing Jenks or Buehrle.

It has to be a star for a star....otherwise why would the Sox make the deal? They can afford Manny they just don't want to. But they aren't going to sacrifice the success of the team just to save money. Especially in this market of free agents cause who are you saving money for??

One move I would consider cause I saw his name as a free agent next season is Derek Lee. I don't know if the Cubs have that kinda money but its possible. Not to mention Lee is solid at 1B and hits from the right side (counter to Ortiz hitting lefty).

Matsui is no gold glove, at times he can have "Manny Moments". Besides, he made 8 mill this year and the MFY will pay him more because he is a very marketable commodity in NY, they even sold Japanese ads on the rightfield wall.

lets just say Manny trade is in fact done. Sox will most likely push hard for Brian Giles

I don't really like that Manny for Giles trade. Like iv'e said before Manny's bat is something that the Sox cannot loose.

I wonder how much the Sox would think about getting Hanley Ramirez into the mix for a possible OF spot. If they think Pedroia is ready to make a run at the 2B job then I can't imagine Hanley is too far behind. I was hearing that the Sox might be willing to let Pedroia and Cora run the 2B job this year. Maybe the Sox would get a veteran CF to help Hanley along. Just a thought....I think it would be interesting to see two young speedy kids batting 1st and 2nd....both with the ability to take a base. Then hitting the lineup of Ortiz, Manny, and say Huff. Not to mention the back of the lineup being made up of Varitek, Nixon, Renteria, and Youkilis.

i didnt even suggest there would be such a trade. I said if Manny is indeed traded, most likely to the Mets. The Sox would push hard for Padres' Brian Giles who is arbitration eligible this offseason.

Truthfully, I don't think that Manny will go anywhere, and really, I hope he does stay. Even if he does get distracted sometimes, we can't afford to lose such an important bat. Ortiz will see so many bad pitches, and intentional walks, that we won't have much of a lineup. No one in the league could do for us, what Manny is doing.

Japan's Sankei Sports newspaper reported the Yankees will offer outfielder Hideki Matsui a three-year, $31.5 million deal with an option for 2009. Although Matsui has only three years of major-league service time, his current contract allows him to become a free agent if not re-signed by Nov. 15.

Yes, a couple of games define a career. Forget his career numbers with RISP (.314, .883) Close and Late (.347, 1.044) Runner on 3rd, less than 2 outs (.451, 1.177). Oh and career Postseason (.319, .933).

You lose.

Matsui is not leaving New York. If he did, though, he wouldn't go to Boston.

IF we traded Manny, which I think would be a huge mistake, obviously MAtsui would be the number one choice.

Matsui will probabaly resign with the Yanks but if we had a chance ot sign him the only problem I would see is his fielding.

His fielding is pretty bad as is, and he supremely sucks at playing the wall at Fenway.

No, I think he's got too much honor and respect for the Yankee organization to switch sides of the rivalry like that. Like when Boston offered Pettitte a ridiculous amount of money that he turned down 2 years ago.
