Ive been trashing this guy all year. Him and his stupid big mouth, his stupid line drive foul balls, his sluggish play in the Outfield and Infield, but maybe.....just maybe he is turning into the Kevin Millar of old. The last couple of nights it seems he has closed his stance a little bit, and instead of cranking inside pitches foul, he is hitting deep flyballs over, against, or just shy of the monster. Even some of his outs look alot better. He is no longer "stepping in the bucket". Now hes striding more or less towards the pitcher and hitting balls with a little more authority. Tonight even tho he had two homeruns I was most impressed with his drive to the right center gap which was caught. Two weeks ago he woulda swung and missed foolishy or fouled it off weekly. I havent been able to stomach watching the guy play all season, but it seems like finally, after months of bad AB's he is making adjustments. It is alot easier to cheer for the guy knowing that finally he is willing to change his approach since all of baseball knew that he wasn't going to touch an outside pitch.

I would still rather stick with John Olerud in most circumstances but if Millar is turning it around, and shows that he can slug like he used to, I would have much less of a problem with seeing his name in the lineup.

What does everyone else think? Do you think his year end numbers will look a little closer to his career averages? Does he have it in him to stay hot for a month? Will he hit like he once showed us he can or will pitchers once again figure him out like they did this year?

Thoughts.... :dunno:

Millar is doing fine and is a very valuable asset to this team. Everyone needs to stop whining so much and support this guy. Last time I checked he is still a Red Sox.

OMG Millar hit 2 home runs in one night!!!! So what. 4 of his 7 home runs have come in 2 games. Such big production. God. He's useless. He hasn't dont antyhing all year up until last night, and that one game against anaheim. He's not doing what he is paid to do, which is be a power hitting first baseman.

His SLG% is still below .400. That is some horrible s***. He couldn't slug 400 in the special olympics.

Millar only does good when im there. Every single red sox game i have been to since 03 millar has homered. and ive been to 7 games. i was at his 3 hr game, his walk off, his other 2hr game this season and last night. its wicked weird

I sat on the green monster for the May 9th game against Oakland, first homerun I had seen by Millar that sailed over my head and it was also the 1st homerun he hit for 2005. In 2005 season games Ive been to, Ive seen 1 HR by Edgar, 5 Hrs by Big Papi (2 grand slams), 3 HRs by Manny, 4 HRs by Trot (including inside the parker), 2 HRs by Varitek, 1 by Olerud, 1 by Payton, and 1 by Millar

the last time Millar hit 2 homers in a game he was so tired from having to jog all around the bases twice (instead of jogging back to the dugout after a popup/strikeout/double play ball) that he didn't hit another homer for 2 months.

In the words of Chris Rock, you're giving Millar credit for what he's supposed to do.

look, if you're gonna s*** on the guy when he's struggling, then give him credit when he's doing well. he's still going out there when he's given a shot and doing what he can and quite frankly, right now he's the reason the yankees aren't 1/2 a game back right now

Red Sox fans have to be the most spoiled cry babies in all of sports. I love ther Red Sox. I get frustrated with certain players at certain times and I understand slumps as well. At times I will complain about a guy not hustling or not playing well, but I can't say I hate a Red Sox player I just can't. I'm most thankful to them for winning a World Series!

Very well put. Look, I cant stand the way hes played this year, however its obvious Tito will continue playing him. If he is going to help the team win, and he continues to wear the Sox uniform you can at least think wishfully and then criticize later.

I appreciate what hes accomplished much like Bellhorn but I wasnt sad to see Bellhorn go. That being said, IF Kevin Millar can get hot I wouldnt mind watching him get his AB's. Like I said before, Id much rather see Olerud play everyday (although he can't) but I would not be opposed to seeing Millar play if he is contributing.

Personally, I think Olerud is one of the best hitters on the Sox and very underrated. He is very level headed, has postseason experience, and is unfazed by the hoopla surrounding the Sox. He is definatley a guy I like to see up when the Sox need a hit.

Plus Olerud has two Jacks tonight and Millar has gone the other way for a sacrifice and a double.

Millar just had a great series against the D-Rays having 5 hits in 12 at bats (.450 avg) 2 Doubles, 2 HRs, 3 RBIs, 4 Runs scored, 1 Walk, 2 Ks--lets hope he continues this against the Orioes, in 53 games he has a career .261 batting avg against them with 8 HRs. While Olerud has played 139 games against them, with a career .281 batting avg and 14 HRs

man, it doesnt take much for the millaragists...millargos??? to start praising fat ass.

I would like to point out for the record that olerud has one less RBI (6 last night) than fat f*** had for the entire month 7...even with his two blasts.

I still cant see why he plays at all. and as far as the usual sanctimonious blather goes about implying that a real redsox fan has to like all the players...yawn...that's absolutely ridiculous...it isnt a matter of being spolied or being a crybaby or being fairweather its a matter of calling somoene out who has an entirely too big a mouth, and ass. and who sucks. Blind faith is afterall blind.

ok as i said before i will stand behind him if his bat helps the Sox to the World series and he closes his chapter in a red sox light. you just dont listen

i do listen but it wasnt so great (your word) and olerud is better.

of course, we all want him to help.

but I think he stinks...and I hear you..you just happen to always throw in some kind of objectionable superlative..

In the end it s about winning and listen if saddam hussein comes in and hits a grand slam to beat the yankees I would cheer him. so millar is easier to cheer for than that..well, yeah... maybe.

Kevin Millar hit what was the game winning homerun in game 3 against Tampa Bay. Yesterday he got a single to get on base, right after Olerud had hit his 2-run homerun. Before Olerud's 2nd homerun of the night Millar hit a deep fly ball to the right field warning track to get Trot to right field. Then in like the 8th inning he had hit his ground rule double which then had set up John Olerud's RBI ground rule double. He has been hitting 300 since couple weeks ago, way its going Id like him and Olerud to split duties, as long as Millar keeps hitting way he is

"a single to get on base"..what other type of singles are there?

"he hit a ball to right field warning track (stop the presses) to get trot to right field.".now that is miracle and makes no sense.

"his ground rule double set up oleruds"? huh..I'll see your ground rule double anbd raise you a ground rule double.

two weeks at .300..... um how about .253 for august.

I wont argue this any more because no one changes their mind about this guy. Believe me I hope he contirbutes but in my mind its five months too late.

I hope we see more olerud.

you see when a player hits a ground rule double that automatically gets him to 2nd base. with olerud's ground rule double right after that, that got the man on 2nd base to score. All in all, Millar did contribute in all 3 of Olerud's RBI drives
