How old are you? 10?

A-Rod has a good chance at it and that can't be denied.

i know he has a chance of taking hit i didnt say he didnt , but ortiz has way more clutch hits than arod and also leads the majors in rbi's and carrying this team,if the yanks dont make the playoff arod wont get it

1. Sports writers don't judge on "clutch hits".

2. A-Rod is better than Ortiz in Averagre and HR's the two indivdual stats out of "the big three".

3. A-Rod plays the field Ortiz doesn't.

A-Rod has a better chance of getting it than Ortiz, regardless of where the Yankees finish.

RBI's are about the only thing ortez beats him in. MVP's are based on all around what they can do. All ortez can do is hit and A rod actually has a better seaon than him in that section. How can he beat him out?

Of course a DH can win it, its not defense that wins you MVP's and everyone knows it. He puts a jolt in the sox lineup and hes got the numbers to be an MVP. Sure, A-rod is having an awesome year, and Ortiz isn't a shoo in, but I like Ortiz's chances over A-rods at this point. Septembers are when MVP's are won and lost so who knows, last year it was up in the air between manny and sheff at this time, and vlad ended up hitting .370 with like 8 homers carrying his team to a division crown, so he stole it. Anything can happen, hell, Tejada could end up winning if he has a huge september, who knows.

Writers tend to support a player who can do both over one who is great just offensively or defensively.

Wait, time out, who says sports writers don't vote based on clutchness? Thats completely untrue, and yeah I think where your team finishes definetly has something to do with it also.

Tejada? Even he does, his team will still be 15 games away from the action. I'm not saying because all ortez does is hit that that eliminates him, but it should lessen his chances.

A-rod won it in 03 I believe and his team finished in last place. Then again nobody else's stats were even close to his, so they pretty much had to give it to him, but it shows that non-playoff teams can have an MVP of the league.

Even if they do, A Rod still has good 'clutch' numbers; 18 game winning RBI, I beleive.

You're right, the writers usually do focus on where the team finished but not always. One example of that being when A Rod won it with the Rangers.

Because there's no real statistic to judge being clutch (other than RISP), one sportswriter points to the Ortiz walkoff against BJ Ryan, another sports writer points to A-Rods homer off Schilling, in the end the arguement over being "clutch" doesn't have much wiegh-in.

As for "I tihnk where your team finishes definitly has something to do with it also", A-Rod won the MVP on the last place Texas Rangers in 2003, so I don't think it matters much.

I'm not saying it all depends on where your team finishes, but i think it comes in to mind, and every writer casts their vote based on different opinions of what makes an MVP. The writers aren't told by anybody what to vote on.

Why not Tejada? Vlad was out of the picture at the time last year, anyone can surge in september and get it, if Ortiz snoozes this month, hes not gonna win it, same for A-rod. Its crunch time, it all depends on how you do in crunch time.

Because his team isn't going to make the playoffs. You flip-flopped in one post. You say it matters where the team finishes, if that's the case then tejada can't possibly get it.

No, you just can't read. Where your team finishes has something to do with it, but not everything. Every sports writer votes based on different things. Some might like clutch, some might like HR some might like the RBI. Its anybodys game right now. Having this discussion at the begining of september is pointless.

You just said that and if the Yankees don't make the playoffs A-Rod probabaly won't get it, nd then wen't on to say "Why not Tejada" who's on a team that's 15.5 games out.

He might, he might not, september matters a lot, last i checked its actually september 2nd. I truly don't care who wins MVP. Whoever wins it just about always deserves it.

Quote me on that first part buddy. I never said if the yanks dont make the playoff arod probably wont get it. Dont make things up.

I agree with your last sentence, still a lot of baseball to be played.

BTW- in a moch voting of 15 ESPN voters, A rod had 13 votes. Ortez had 1 and one person was undecided.

before september, i bet last year it was like 8 sheff 6 manny and 1 ortiz, vlad was probably out of the picture.

I remember last year around this time we had a similar discussion. We came to the conclusion that a rod and sheff would cancel each other out, same for ortez and manny and vlad would win. That probably won't happen this year though. A rod's season has been leaps and bounds better, looking like the a rod of old. Plus who was the last MVP to miss a month of the season?

I think we all know who the real shoo-in for MVP is...
