If the offensive projections hold true to form, and he continues to play solid D down the stretch, then ARod is having a more MVP-like year. Ortiz not playing in the field WILL eliminate his chances. Manny's bipolar disorder before the trade deadline will eliminate his.

But ARod's not a lock. Vladdy will give him a serious fight for the honor. If teams continue to IBB him, then sportswriters are going to take that into account when looking at the final numbers.

...the Yankees will be playing more than 2 games in October. ;)

That is a possibility, but don't go ordering the champagne yet. And if they don't, then Vlad will win it, again.

Isn't that more a credit to the offense around him than the player himself? In fact I think you are making my argument for me.

If your point is that the red sox are a better team and that makes Manny and Ortiz better players, then you are correct.

They don't hand out Pity MVP awards, cause the guys around you don't get the job done as well.

I'm going to be realistic about this and say A-Rod is going to get the MVP. I think Ortiz has an outside shot but you know its going to A-Rod...

Actually, my point is that Rodriguez more valuable. (you know Most Valuable Player)

game 4 and game 5 ALCS, 'nuff said

LOL 1978 BUCKY BUCKNER BOONE! ZOMG THE RED SUX!

We can get into a history contest, but that would be dumb and boring.

I'm not saying Ortiz isn't a good hitter, I'm saying Rodriguez has been more valuable this year.

And the stats I just provided, what they're just bias too? A-Rod hasn't made an error since the beginning of June, and played solid to spectacular defense at third since. Manny plays average leftfield at best, and Ortiz doesn't bring much defense to the table, does he?

I fail to see how there is even an argument that Rodriguez should win it.

The reason A-Rod won't win the MVP is because he lacks the ability to play in the clutch. He has muffed several big plays in the field and has also not hit the long ball when he needed to. Manny tends to hit his dingers when they are needed while A-rod may hit a home run when the yanks are either 6 runs up or down. MVP votes need to take that into account.

Facts, examples, numbers! Come on!

There you are wrong. Every team A-hole has played for has become better when he leaves. That's a fact. He may be a great individual player but he doesn't bring leadership and guts to the team that a guy like Jeter brings. Jeter is the MVP for the yanks. Not A-rod. You may want to look deeper than stats. If you want a history lesson look at last year. From top to bottom the Yankees had more talent but the Red Sox had heart which got them through to become the first team to come back from 3-0. Think about it.

Actually I tihn we were more talented than the Yankees last year, our pitching staff was far superior to thiers.

Let's put it this way if Papi had A-Rods numbers and A-Rod had Papi's numbers would any of us be arguing against Papi?

Ortiz won't win the MVP. If he does, then I blame ESoxPN for brainwashing everyone in the universe into Red Sox loving brainless twirps. There's no way someone who is so unidimensional should be able to win the MVP. IMO, there are others that deserve it way more than Ortiz does. As much as I hate seeing him come to bat, that's the only part of him that scares me. He isn't even the best in every category (such as homers and average) and won't be when the season ends. He may be a very good guy and he is a great hitter, but sorry Millah, Ortiz is no shoe in.

You keep missing the i, and how is that so humorous? All he can do is hit. Not that I am putting him down, I'd take him ANYDAY on the Yanks.

this discussion won't get anywhere on here. Yes A-Rod's stats are impressive this year. but sox fans are not gonna say A-Rod will win the MVP and Yank fans are not gonna say ortiz or Manny will win.

Not a chance. Manny Ramierez will block him. Would the team win without him? Yes, manny just has to step it up. Same thing in New York. Would the team win without A rod? Yes, Sheff, or matsui would just have to step it up. If the angels make the playoffs, no question, it will be vlad.

exactly its all about bias as I said earlier.

That doesn't mean you can't have a discussion about it. And if a fan of a team can't recognize the talent of a player that doesn't wear their uniform of choice, he or she should seriously consider being a bit more open minding and giving credit where credit is due. Like I have said countless times, I love Ortiz and wish he was a FA at the end of the year so the Yanks could make a run at him, I just don't think a DH should win MVP.
