According to the Post he was claimed off waivers by the Yanks but then exercised his no-trade clause for the second time this year (1st time being around the deadline refusing a trade to the Astros) refusing a trade to the Bombers.

Since I can just go out and buy the Post, im not registered on their website, so ill do that now and when I get the confirmation email ill provide a link.

August 10, 2005 -- Jamie Moyer was claimed on waivers by the Yankees, but the 42-year-old lefty declined to come to New York, sources told The Post last night.

Moyer (9-4, 4.29 ERA) was apparently placed on waivers on Friday, sources said, and the pitching-depleted Yankees claimed him.

But he owns 10/5 rights with Seattle and has thrived there after a journeyman career elsewhere. During the non-waiver trade deadline, he reportedly turned down a deal to Houston. Moyer would have been eligible to pitch tomorrow night against Texas, since his last start was Saturday. The Yanks may have refused to offer a contract extension to Moyer, which may have killed the deal, a source said.

i remember that a poll was done at the all-star game asking players who were attending and playing in the game there. "Who would you rather play for, the Red Sox or the Yankees?" I forgot the stats percentage, but it was overwhelmingly Red Sox

if I was a player I sooner join the bush adminstration than play for the yankees.

now if we were the yankees we'd pickup moyer for tuesday miller game and then dump him.

Moyer's kind of a moron.

If I'm Moyer, 42 years old, rotting away in Seattle, and a playoff contender wants me to potentially add something to a playoff run, I take it. Who cares if they don't extend my contract.

This is why they play the game, to make the playoffs. Seattle stopped playing meaningful games MONTHS ago, and the Yankees are in the thick of the divisional race and also the Wild Card. This was his ticket out of Seattle, and he turned it down?

all true, but it is reflective of just how horrible the yankees are percieved in the league.

moyer has been a tough competitor for a lot of years, I think it more reflective of a putrid team chemistry, the thought of playing with the leagues biggest douche bag (sheffield), an unappealing management and the dumbest, rudest and worst fans in sports that makes going to new york that UNattractive.

Exactly. Apparently no one thinks the Yankees are competing anymore. They're a joke.

It's a joke to me that you're calling the Yankees a joke regarding their ability to comptete. Despite all the injuries they've sustained (Mussina is the only healthy pitcher right now), they're easily within striking distance of botht he division and the wild card.

That having been said, the Yankee clubhouse does seem like a circus right now and I can understand why Moyer wouldn't want to be a part of it.... but if I were him I'd take the opportunity just because I'd be pitching in meaningful games again.

they certainly are no joke true, and with all their ptiching problems my hat is off to them for only being 4.5 games back...

they are *******s, and their fans among the worst in any sport, their clubhouse chemistry is non-existent, they have sheff, enough said...but they still frighten me and will until they are eliminated

There may also be one other reason. Maybe, He's thinking of retiring, he's 42, he really likes the area, and how gas is stiil in the tank , not to mention desire.

well with randy johnson about to miss his start thursday, have you heard yankees are willing to go to scott proctor to get that start against the texas rangers??! As August goes along, Yankees could slide further than 4.5 games back

Although its fun to dump on the Yanks ( its so easy ), they just don't have the pitching to make any strong run. Hell, winning a series ( against anyone ) is a big deal. I'll actually kind of miss beating them in the play-offs.

using 'Mo and Gordon in excess who are both having a great season, might come around and bite them during the September stretch because my memory recalls same thing as last season and they got shelled in the late innings of October baseball ;), and their offense can only do so much--Besides that, funny to see Steinbrenner calling Torre out when he let Alan Embree face off against Konerko who hit the 3-2 count pitch into left field which was basically the game winning decision, haha good stuff

to let everyone know, yanks/white sox game is on in 10 minutes on ESPN. Garcia vs Aaron Small who has had a best story out of the yankee pitchers this season, hard not to have respect for a guy who hasnt even started a major league game since '96 and then 9 years later signs with the Yankees, winning his first 3 straight games

a little off topic but did anyone see Scott Harper take that jump down to the net. Holy crap that kid has balls and might be a little mentally unstable....

I read he is going to be charged big time for that. I also like Steins comments saying "it was the only thing exciting today" haha

that kind of delusional thinking is dangerous, fellows...they are only 4.5 back with the staff trouble they've had. If they have so much trouble winning against anyone..how come they have 60 wins. oh and for the record, I believe they took a series right after the all-star break from a team near and dear to your heart.

you're opening yourself up for some real agony if you ever take them lightly or count them out. Maybe it's our history with them, but I wont be satisifed until I see them eliminated mathematically.

Okay valid point. My cardiologist said it's amazing I'm still alive, because my heart has been broken so many times.

It seems to be a biological fact that the over abundance of growth in one area leads to a defeciency in another.
