"We're much better than when we started," Ruben Sierra said, adding, "We're going to be in first place at the end."

Oh Really?? And you are going to lead them correct?? maybe play some center field Sierra?? perhaps do some pitching?? of all the people to say this....Ruben Sierra?? who the hell is he to claim victory at the half way point lol

wow i love it

Don't get too hard on ol' Ruben about semantic issues. He didn't after all specify first place in what! Payroll? I can guarantee a win there. Primadonnas? No one touches the Yankees. Perhaps he meant starting pitchers on the DL? The Yanks looking great to lead the league in those. Or maybe he was refering to obnoxious fans on the Talk Sox board? Once again the Yankees' territory hands down.

Johnny Damon is the biggest primadonna on either side. I think Johnny's a great athlete, but don't expect him to be splitting any atoms at Harvard any time soon.

And if Varitek said it, it would be an act of leadership. Such hypocrites.

There is no way in a million years JASON VARITEK would say something like that. The only person who made a well known prediction was Dan Shaunessy...and he isnt on the damn team.

I'm going to go have my head checked after I click "Submit Reply" on this one, because this is the second time TODAY I've agreed with a Yankee fan, third in a week.

If Varitek, Johnny Damon, Curt Schilling, or anyone in a Red Sox uniform said "We'll be in first at the end," no Red Sox fan would say anything about it. They'd just dust it off as being confident and move on.

Ruben Sierra hasn't promised a damn thing. This isn't like guys before who've guaranteed victories, this is just a guy saying he thinks his team will finish first.

There's a difference between Varitek, or any Red Sox player, saying it and RUben Sierra saying it -- we're in first place and they're not.

Can't see Varitek saying this, but if he had it'd be an act of hubris just like it is when Sierra says it. I think that everyone knows or ought to know that both the Red Sox and Yankees have good stockpiles of talented players and who ever wins the division is going to have to earn it.

If Varitek had said this however and the Red Sox won the division, odds are pretty good that you could look back and say he was a huge part of it on the field. If the Yanks win the division, I have a hard time believing we're going to sit back and say that Ruben Sierra was a key to them winning the division.

A guy that's played thirty-eight games with the Yankees, is hitting .284 to go along with his pathetic 3 HR, 27 hits and ELEVEN runs has guaranteed this? A guy who has changed location 16 times in his major league career... keep talking Ruben, it'll be 17 at the end of the season.

Do you not get it Sierra? The Yankees dumped you after 1995, brought you back and dumped you again in 1996, brought you back again and dumped you off once again in 2003, and you think people are going to listen to you?

Millar said something similar after the Philly series, and the Sox went 5-8 afterward coming into the break. I hope the same karma goes their way.

What's wrong in suppling a little confidence in a team that you play for. Who gives a s*** who said it. I don't have a problem with anyone on any team that's in contention saying that. What's wrong with him saying it. ya I know this is a sox fan site and you guys look at what the Yankees do with a microscope, more than what you do with your own team. Ruben is a true yankee and will always be. He is more than a player he is teacher. He's basically took Cano under his wing and taught him how to play in the big leagues. Sierra doesn't play all the time but when he does he usually gets a big hit or makes a big play.

Ruben is the Captain of the Yanks Fantasy Baseball Team and they are doing great. I'm in their league and I've gotta tell you Ruben along with Randy Johnson are fantasy wizards! A-Rod, Jeter, and Posada keep sending me for themselves.

Joe Torre is in last because he and Cashman didn't believe in a good draft, they just tried to pick-up older free agents.
