Hey all, greetings from a long suffering Phillies fan.

This isn't meant to start any rumors. Unfortunately our bonehead GM Ed Wade still considers our team to be buyers and not sellers at this point so it's unlikely he will be looking to trage Wagner any time soon.

That being said, if he had a competent GM and were looking to trade him, would you guys be interseted in getting him. And, if so, what would you be willing to give up?

You're obviously desperate for a closer if you're talking about wasting Schilling in that role (can we please have him back?).

The Phils really need a young catcher and 3B, along with (of course) young pitching. So Shoppach, Youkilis, Papelbon and Lester are some of the names we'd be interested in.

So I'm playing Phillies' GM. Make me an offer!

Haha, I am just playing. I thought it was funny, anyways.

I would think we would give either Embree or Foulke as part of it along with one of our top prospects. I doubt we would deal any of our top prospects. Im hoping we dont f*** up our future.

I don't think the Phils would have any interest in either Embree or Foulke. At least I wouldn't, as make-believe GM. I think it'd take at least Shoppach and one of Youkilis, Papelbon or Lester, maybe more. He's a top closer who we gave up 3 good young players for. If you guys wouldn't give that up for him I'd understand but that would mean no deal is really possible.

No ones getting Youk. If need be, I will purchase the Boston Red Sox in order to keep that from happening.

Do you think John Henry would accept Monopoly money?

I didn't think the Phillies are selling right now, but if they did it would certianly require Kevin Youkillis, who could be the Phillies 3B of the future, but problem with that is he most likely would be the Red Sox 3B next year.

The Red Sox would probably offer Kelly Shoppach, Manny Declarmen, and doubtfully Jon Lester. The third player might be an Abe Alvarez? So it would give the Phillies a catcher, a potential elite setup man, and a 4th to 5th starter. But trading Wagner would give the Phillies a ton of backlash in the press, so I don't think they'd move Wagner.

Youkillis will be a good player, but he won't be an outstanding player. He'll hit around .275 with an OBP of about .380. Youkillis might hit 20 HR's, but the safe bet is around 15. I'd keep him, but don't be stunned when he isn't hitting .370 with 50 HR's.

The Phils aren't selling, which is unfortunate because they should be. I actually think the fans would love to see Wagner traded, as long as slick Eddy Wade could get a good deal in return (which is unlikely). Most fans are in my camp, which thinks the Phils are done and need to totally rebuild.

I think they could put together a deal without Youkilis, if that's a deal killer, but then it'd have to include Lester or Papelbon. I don't know much about Declarmen or Alvarez (tell me about them please) but a package of Shoppach, Declarmen and Alvarez seems to be lacking an A-list prospect.

PhillyPhan, do you see the Sox having a chance at getting Robinson Tejada? Looking at his numbers, I assume that he is a middle relief guy who can also start games. He's very young, making his MLB debut earlier this year. What's amazing, though, is his 1.96 ERA in 36.2 IP.... personally I'll take this young kid and get him signed instead for a couple of years instead of getting Wagner. Of course, I don't want the extents are to his contract right now.

Declarmen is a hometown kid born in the Massachusetts area, and is going through a conversion into the bullpen. After a shaky start he's dominated as late, and got the call up to Pawtucket. He features a 94 to 97 mph fastball, and a deadly curveball. He's had Tommy John surgery a year ago. I could see him being a dominant relief pitcher with those two pitches, and he could ultimately help the Sox this year.

Alvarez is a lanky lefthander, who could be a good addition to a staff at the backend. He throws an excellent changeup, and a decent curveball. He also has tremendous control. His weakness is if he's off he's going to get hit very hard. He tops out at about 88 mph.

Forget getting Tejada, he's making 300 K for the next 3 years, and the Phillies hold his rights for 6 years.

I'd really rather see the Sox hold on to Declarman, he looks like he could be very good. Plus, I always like to see the local boys get a shot at playing for the Sox.

Abe Alvarez is really an enigma to me. He has the talent to become a Tom Glavine type pitcher with a lot of success (especially in Boston, who will always score runs), or he could end up like a Bruce Chen type pitcher who just doesn't blossom into that great MLB pitcher everyone expects him to. (I admit Bruce Chen has been good this season, but he was a can't miss Braves' prospect in the late 90s) The soft tossing lefties (like Chen, or even David Wells) rely on command more than anything else because they CAN'T blow people away with their stuff. Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux made a living on the corners (and really good one at that) but I'd say more pitchers fail than succeed with that caliber stuff.

I don't see the Sox going seriously after Wagner, because the price would be so high. They're in love with Ramirez, Pedroia, Papelbon, Lester, and Declarman (our most desirable prospects) and I don't see them making a deal-- unless the Phills are interested in talking about Kelly Shoppach, who seems to be the biggest trading chip for the Sox so far.

You are correct once again, the Sox might go after a Ron Villone, because I think their convinced that Schilling or Timlin can get the job done in the back end of the bullpen. I don't see them grabbing Guardado because he stands to lose money if he agrees to a deal.

Shoppach and youk are all I could give you.

Why would you give up your starting 3B next year for a player who'd help you for the rest of this year?

Well if they know they can resign mueller whats the need.

I don't think they'll resign Mueller, I wish they would because he's a phenomal player. But I think that Theo think that Youkillis can play everyday, and with Youkillis being 25, that should give him the nod.

Why on earth would the Red Sox want Kevin Millar? The world is filled with mysteries nobody can explain.

That being said, the Phillies probably WOULDN'T be interested in Embree.... he's got to establish himself as a decent reliever first, and just like Millar, there's only one team willing to keep giving him opportunities: The Boston Red Sox.

No way - he's one of our few bright spots this year. He's been lights out since they moved him into the rotation.

The Phils need to rebuild around our young players like Tejada.

Are you going to ask for Chase Utley next? :D
