There were some rumors in the offseason about Beltran getting traded to the redsox for Damon and someone else. (not totally sure about this) I just read an article on him on ESPN and they are comparing him to an early Bonds. I would love to see Beltran on the Sox, but i really dont want to get rid of Damon.

His contract is up at the end of this season and he will most likely be traded or go into the free agent market and wont resign with the royals. Yankees, Sox, Dodger and even the Tigers were teams mentioned in the article about him on ESPN.

Wouldnt be a bad move to go after Beltran.

But he'd cost soooooooooo much money. 15 mil a year easy, he's that type of player. I don't know if the sox want to sink all of their FA money into one player in an outfield that is already pretty good. Trading Damon might help, but still, we lose Damon and we could lose Beltran at the end of the season, and then we're super screwed.

Look, money is no object. Besides, I can't believe that paying $17.5 mil for a guy that -at best- gives you 7 innings every five games is instantly favored over a guy that'll give you 9 innings 162 games/season. Who's worth more? Manny or Pedro? At the pace Beltran's going he'll be more valuable than Manny pretty soon. Imagine both those guys in your lineup every day.

Pitching is everything and it's almost apples and oranges to compare how starting pitchers contribute vs. position players. Pedro used to be that good, but he's not Clemens or Nolan Ryan. He's built like Harry Potter and it's practially magic if he gets to the All-Star break without going on the DL. If Pedro gives us 30 starts this season I'll be impressed. (You realize that would be more than 1/2 million a game right?)

I still say send Pedro and cash for Beltran and prospects. KC has a decent farm system. We could make out good if we get the right prospects. Money is no object. Sign Beltran long term as part of the deal or very shortly there after. Damon would be epic in RF. Nixon is over rated, so trade him while other people think so too.

Wow, you guys are traitors. No one talks about Trot. Local media, mainstream media, nothing. Yet, he posted a far higher OPS than Beltran last season, Trot was in the top-10 by the way, and Trot is over-rated? If anything, he's underrated by even the most die-hard of RSN and to say he is overrated when he gets zero attention and is top-10 in THE offensive category is rediculous.

I think trot is fairly underated, and is much more talented then people say he is...but i would still love to see beltran over damon in centerfeild.

Chalk one up on the overrated tally. He's a great player, yes, but I think people are giving him way too much credit. Look at his stats, mediocre. Plus he also has an attitude, not towards teammates, but towards baseball in general.

I've hated him ever since his "screw stolen bases and singles, I want to hit home runs" quote. He said it I think two years ago and has pissed me off ever since.

Wait, mediocre stats? Top 10 in OPS last season and that's mediocre? What do you guys want, Barry Bonds at every position? The only better hitter on this team is Manny Ramirez, and that's a fact with numbers to back it up. That includes Ortiz, Nomar, Varitek and all your boys. Trot, especially from judging the reaction from you folks, might be the most underrated player in the league now. As a matter of fact, everyone's favorite catcher, Jason Varitek, can't hold a candle to what Trot produces.

Trot Nixon has passion for the game, he plays every inning as hard as he can and always tries to be humble about it, for the most part. As far as the quote, would you rather have Juan Pierre or Albert Pujols? Trot knows his game is more suited to power than it is to his ability on the basepaths. To hate him over something trivial like that when he was obviously joking around is ludicrous. He does everything every manager has ever asked him to do and he's definitely my favorite player.

For Sox fans to dislike the player who has given 11 years of his life to this organization, and produced wonderfully, really seems even traitorous to me.

I second that. He's my favorite player too.

i like them both and i definetely think Trot is underrrated. The only time he was ever in the media was when he threw that ball into the stands with 2 outs ;)

The only real knock on Trot is his struggle with left handed pitching. But a season so far with Kapler or Millar in RF makes me miss him more and more. Not to mention his bat in the lineup.

Reading through this, the first 4 posts were about Beltran, and the rest have been about Trot Nixon. Seeing him play in this series, what do you guys think of him?

i dunno he hasnt looked great but his numbers are good. Also ortiz's numbers didnt look good in one series but would you still want him on your team?

I wasn't implying what do you think of him NooooOOow in a sarcastic tone, I was actually wondering what you think of him. Just because he has poor stats in one series doesn't mean you can't get an impression of how he plays.

He's certainly a superstar, I'll give him that, and he'd be a household name if he played anywhere else.

I like what Beltran offers to the Sox, but they don't have the money or place to put him right now. It would take a lot of tricky manuevering and a lot of cash to come out of nowhere, but it would be great to see him in a Sox uniform. Someone made a comment to me not too long ago about Beltran reminding them of Barry Bonds early in his career. Some food for thought there.

He would be nice on the sox but i dont think it will happen if he becomes a free agent because the yankees will hop on him like a fat girl on a doughnut

Damn you. I just read the thread title and spilt water all over my computer...

Anyway, speaking of the rumor mill, the whole Nomar tearing a sheath on this achilles tendon? It was reported on bostondirdogs.com but the souce is from redsoxnation.net. Here's the original quote:

"NEWSFLASH: My girlfriend works for an HDTV service in NYC. Nomar and Mia are contributors to a program called SPORTSKOOL where they are filmed instructing kids how to play certain sports. Anyway, my girlfriend had to speak with Victor Garciaparra, Nomar's uncle and private manager today regarding some business. Get this:

It turns out Nomar actually tore the sheath surrounding his achilles tendon, which is much worse than a bruise. The Sox and Nomar agreed to call the injury a "bruise" due to the many obvious factors involved. According to Victor, Nomar will be back with the team the first week of June and will start rehabbing with the PawSox at the end of next week.

This is first hand info. guys. Wouldn't play around with this. "

It's way down on this page http://redsoxnation.net/index.php?showtopic=4538&st=50

I guess it could make sense. It would explain why he had to wear a cast for a week or two. But if it was a tear in March, would 2 months be enough time for it to heal? If so, it's probably not too big a tear to begin with. Either way, he's supposed to start playing some next week!

Theo needs to do this deal. If our only problem is money, it isn't. JD is costing us 7.75 and BK is 5. While Belt is 6 that leads to a savings of 6.75 for this year alone. Concerning his following contract, this would give us the inside track on signing him. Vladi signed for 14 with Anaheim so I can't imagine him going anywhere above that. In the grand scheme we would be adding to the payroll, but Belt is BEASTMODE and we also get a prospect too.
