Weird tho, usually when your pitch recognition is off against offspeed stuff , you are too far in front and striking out missing (because you see a slider as a fastball).
My nickname in the show for a while was "swingsly" cuz i couldnt recognize the low slider running away from me. And im prone to it because ive for some reason always been a low ball hitter (real life and the show). So i lvoe the low pitches, but i whiff on low sliders running away and curveballs in teh dirt. I hammer curvealls at my knees tho. Just drop the bathead and golf. But a good curveball in the dirt will get me excited and ill whiff.
Maybe its a confidence thing. Because hes hunting fastball, and intimidated by offspeed stuff, so he recognizes its offspeed and is thinking (dont stay in the zone, dont stay in the zone, s*** thats staying in the zone, late swing, oppo weak contact)
but if he didnt recognize offspeed pitches as offspeed, he'd be pulling because he'd be in front.
Could be that he recognizes they are offspeed but doesnt have the experience yet to estimate trajectory so he stays back too long. we can figure this out, that much i know.
