  1. If you are right, I agree. Not thinking about money, not resigning Lester was as stupid a non resigning as Mookie, though Mookie was younger. Its as stupid as any off-season decision of any team in any sport anytime. If you say Mookie came back with a ridiculous offer, that's to be considered, though Red Sox could afford it if anybody could. I specifically remembered Lester saying to the camera he was willing to take a home team discount. They both went on to win World Series with the team they signed to prove how stupid it was.
  2. Yes but he wouldnt be "willing" to do it. He's going to say that they're going to have to make him not play regardless of the record or who is waiting to take his place. Us as fans, of course, push the "for the team" narrative much farther than the players would because all we want and get are the wins. The players on the other hand prioritize themselves playing professional baseball first and foremost, before team or fans or even winning.
  3. And Yoshida was one of the heroes and he's not an all or nothing hitter.
  4. I believe more in higher average guys than the modern consensus. I've heard that people think Pete Rose is overrated because he was such a hit hunter but he got rings and WS MVPs and theoretically I think its because in the postseason, any kind of hit is good and it builds belief and confidence and momentum. Its better than the mounting pressure of striking out going for the HR.
  5. How about not playing?
  6. Thats a pretty wide stat. Whats does high leverage constitute? ARod was on a team with Ken Griffey and Randy Johnson as well as Edgar Martinez and couldn't get past the Yankees. How much of those stats are from his time with the Rangers? He was actually awesome with them...in last place. I seem to remember him choking in clutch moments with Yanks.
  7. When it comes to clutch, Jeter WAS better. And there was no one more pampered and ungrateful for it than Arod.
  8. The Jeter, Arod thing is more like, you do whatever Jeter wants because he helped you win multiple championships, crashing into seats and being clutch while Arod was being a diva, getting paid record breaking amounts of money by the Rangers while simultaneously complaining about always being in last place and having no other good players. Of course the reason they didn't have good players was because of his massive contract! The Yankees are going to replace Jeter with him??? I also would put pitching and defense combo higher than 50 %.
  9. Yeah and I was for some of it then but now its gone too far.
  10. And Cora swapping guys around is something I disagree with. I don't think it's just because of injuries, I think its a workable concept, to have a very flexible roster, where they plug in people based on their skill set for specific games. Its very anti-player and pro-analytics. It treats players like a stat sheet. Its also why they want a good farm system because you need lots of players who desperately want to make it to the big leagues, to make it work. Its also why you need a good "players manager."
  11. Wow, I always figured him in the same way fans see Mookie Betts, someone the Red Sox let slip away and paid for it immediately.
  12. Well someone should tell him that the goal of baseball and sports in general is to, oh I don't know, win??? The evidence is clear, Alex Cora and the whole organization puts winning way down on his list of priorities. And decades and decades of baseball says you dont have to rest pitchers like this. The more money they make the more protective they get. The more protective they get, the wimpier they get. The wimpier they get, the easier they get hurt. They're painting themselves into a smaller and smaller corner.
  13. Buehler is another Cora victim. He was doing well before Cora rested him. Buehler was quoted as saying he didn't feel he needed rest. Cora is a pitcher-talent sucker.
  14. I'm thinking the Red Sox were looking to get rid of Devers before the season even started and had to wait to find a suitor to do it. Its the only thing that explains the massive incompetence surrounding this whole thing. I don't agree with it still but it makes sense.
  15. I'm talking about taking them out while theyre doing well and having a 90 or under pitch count. Look at the message that sends. Here you are, a player trying to win a game and the manager inexplicably takes the pitcher, who is pitching effectively, out of the game. The replacement then completely ruins all that hard work in less than an inning. I'm sure the player is thinking, "why didn't he just leave the starter in there? Now I've got to do enough to cover these nonsensical moves too?" But he's done it continuously, and I think it affects the team. It seemed as if he learned his lesson when we swept the Yankees. He even left Crochet in to pitch the 9th. Yes, he gave up a HR to Judge but guess what, the team rallied for him and they won the game. Wasn't that fun?
  16. He takes pitchers out too early and then the bullpen blows the save or just blows everything to smithereens. He takes them out when the game is close, they're still throwing effectively and the pitch count is under 90. He's done it about 4-5 times now and it has all resulted the same, undermining the teams momentum. Taking Giolito out early was the latest. Look at that succesful period where we swept the Yankees, all the pitchers pitched deep into the games and the bullpen performed well to finish. Cora is not managing to win games, he's managing to prevent injuries. Its a losers mentality and doesnt seem to prevent injuries either.
  17. He must've really felt that the Yankees sweep and that whole period where they were doing well, much of when Devers didn't contribute much, was the new, real Red Sox.
  18. I agree, its him and/or the analytics team. They're in game moves have directly affected the outcomes of games in a negative way. And it seems as if these bad moves affect the team for multiple games afterwards, which leads to the team over compensating on everything, which leads to those stats that indicate performance under pressure. Eventually the team get back on a groove and start winning again until Cora makes another bone headed move and screws it all up again. Breslow shares some of the blame too for the Devers fiasco that started in spring training. Trading him after a Yankees sweep is just beyond comprehension.
  19. If they dont know that's there jobs, Duran shouldn't walk away, he should run. The whole team should follow him too. Its not the coaches though, it's Cora purposely losing close games by taking pitchers out too early. Its the FO trading their best player.....just when they seem to be doing good and sweeping their arch nemesis. All of the Red Sox suck at D. Do you really think it's because of the individual players skill level?
  20. Its Cora and the FO. They want the players to play well while constantly undermining them.
  21. Who knows but I thought it was about having a good team now where the prospects can slide in as seamlessly as possible and keep it all going. But I'm not sure it matters who we trade for or acquire, if our front office and managers are in charge. We had a raking Devers, a raking, healthy Bregman, a steal of a catcher in Narvaez, everything we could've ever asked out of Crochet and Chapman, an easy schedule to start out the season, a weakened AL and Yankees and we were still hovering around 500. I think MLB wanted us to succeed and we still couldn't capitalize.
  22. Record wise we are a worse team than last year and we were supposed to be better. But thats ok because everything was looking up, we even sweep the Yankees but then we trade our best player. If that is palatable, I'd hate to taste unpalatable. Right now Devers is playing on a playoff bound team, I guess we showed him.
  23. What I haven't seen too much of around here but have heard is that Devers, in the meeting with JH said he would play 1st base if he was given a season to practice. How much would that solve if we have Bregman at 2nd for only one season, and then go to 3rd. It would've made things much more seamless with everything including the prospects. I was just looking to get toe into the postseason this year and then after that think about going all the way. So yes, I agree with you about starting over in ST.
  24. I would think the players care more about stability, especially to start the season, than the attitude of any one player. What the FO did at the beginning of the season when signing Bregman was stupidly and easily-avoidably disruptive and I can imagine, creates an atmosphere of mistrust.
  25. I think he did fix the pitching by letting them pitch deeper into the games. And you cant necessarily say them doing well was the reason for letting them go longer because Cora was replacing pitchers too early, earlier in the season, when they were doing well and that's when the bullpen screwed it all up. Once they let the pitchers pitch later in the game the bullpen would wrap up the game and put a nice bow on top. To me that's why I dislike the trade. We get success and trade Devers. Why cant we have Bregman, Yoshida, Abreu AND Devers?
