  1. Well it sounds like they are starting over again, so in that sense, it makes sense to get rid of him. I'm just not for the starting over again, more than anything.
  2. Attitude sure but was it warranted? Do they only want "yes men," and then when they say "jump" and the player doesnt say "how high," trade them for someone desperate.
  3. True but I guess that's when Devers became expendable, when they value Casas over Devers. Ideally, if I was the GM, I would've gotten Alonso and then either executed the trade sending Casas to Seattle for Castillo or put either Casas or Alonso as DH and put Yoshida as RF. Sure it's a crap defense but the offense would've been stellar and it's building upon the year before instead of constantly rebuilding.
  4. I read somewhere they didn't want that contract as soon as they signed it. They did it to appease the fans. Any way you slice it though, why does the same management that went after Soto, cut Devers? Was Soto going to do anything and everything Breslow/Cora says? Is Soto some beacon of team play and sportsmanship? Maybe it WAS just pretend as vjsmoke said. I mean why not just go after Alonso? Solves all problems without shaking up an already decent roster.
  5. The thing that irks me is a team should have at least two dangerous bats to protect one another. We had one and all we had to do is....add another. Simple, easy. Unfortunately though, the one we added cancelled out the one we had. Forehead smack! They say they didnt want Devers contract. Ok then why spend all that time going after after Soto, who would've been way more? They say they didn't want to pay a DH all that money. Ok, then why make moves that put him there in the first place? Even if Devers is a selfish diva, theres no angle to look at that makes the FO look like they have, or ever had a plan.
  6. "The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. That each individual is contributing and finding a way to help a team win, whether that’s in the batter’s box, on the pitcher’s mound, on the bases, on defense, in the clubhouse, on the bench. It’s the willingness to step up and sacrifice at times of need and essentially do whatever is necessary to help the team win. And I think that’s the identity, this relentless pursuit of winning that we’re looking for, it’s the identity that the World Series championship teams have had in the past.” Did he steal this mumbo jumbo from Mau Tse tung?
  7. Oh they'll break the diva out of him....even before he becomes one.
  8. Was Anthony in on doing drills in front of the media or was he made to? That sounds pretty bad if he was made to.
  9. And that is why I'm more on Devers side. I think he knows the owners dont care for or respect the players or the fans for that matter and is using the power he has to his advantage.
  10. Yeah, well Alonso got $54 million for two years and Bregman $120 for 3 years so that's not true. Alonso was ripe for the taking because he turned down the Mets qualifying offer of $70 million and got less. EDIT - Not qualifying offer but extension.
  11. It really doesnt sound like a long term plan. It was near the end of having available RHB's to buy and there was nobody left. I personally think Alonso wouldve been a neater, less intrusive signing. Worse D but more power and a happier clubhouse with parts that actually fit together. It irks me that last years club was good but just needed to be a little better, instead they tear the whole thing to shreds. No momentum building.
  12. I don't know Devers, so I cant judge him 100% but I KNOW the organization has been stupid so am giving Devers the benefit of the doubt, even considering his actions.
  13. I think it's the analytics guys. They don't see players as people but as sets of skills they can put in and take out as needed. The money and being nice is supposed to smooth over any hurt feelings.
  14. Yes but they forgot Devers existed when they got Bregman didnt they? Who is more forgettable, even when healthy, Casas or Devers? They also did Devers dirty again by not offering him 1st immediately after getting Bregman and putting Casas at DH. Again they choose Casas over Devers. Not only is that bad in terms of production but sends a bad message to the clubhouse about how un-loyal they are.
  15. Sure, HE'S great but how he fit in with what we already had was a total cluster ****. He's not good enough to also cover the loss of Devers.
  16. I agree. They spend all that time going after Soto but not a peep about Alonso. Getting Alonso wouldve solved RHB problem, kept Raffy at 3rd, Yoshida DH, and still had room for all the prospects. D wouldve been meh but O wouldve been dynamite. Or why didn't they pull the trigger on trading Casas to Seattle for pitching? Getting Bregman seems like picking last girl at the bar at closing time, desperate, not thought out.
  17. I believe he got sent to a good organization. SFG have been my second favorite team since Bochy.
  18. My $0.02 is that this will set the Red Sox back right when the future started to look bright but also cleans things up in many ways. Unfortunately it cleans up things that were quite avoidable to begin with, that being the Devers/Bregman/Yoshida/Casas....1st/3rd/DH conundrum. But it also allows the prospects experiment to be pushed to the forefront, so that is a positive, I guess, if they're ready for it. In the end though, I've got to think that there are a whole lot of people getting rich from being incompetent.
  19. Great win, why didn't Cora allow Dobbins to stay in longer? He doesnt trust a pitcher pitching a shutout? No bueno.
  20. I actually think this is an ideal way to win. Crochet was masterful but in the end needed the team. Great team win.
  21. They don't need to do anything with the offense. They have to handle the pitchers better, which they are doing.
  22. Getting one of the best farm systems in the league was worth it. Combining deep pockets with it is the right way to build a team, which we have done. After that though, I can't stand the things we do and have done. Its not the players though, it's the management and general management.
  23. Garrett Crochet is the pitcher with the second most innings pitched of any starter in mlb, he was number one. As a team though, even counting Crochet, the Red Sox are well below average in starters innings pitched. That means other than Crochet, the Red Sox starters probably pitch the least in mlb.
  24. Why is Cora not responsible for the pitching? I personally think he is by pulling them too fast all the time. He did it today to Dobbins today but the offense scored 11 so it didn't matter. He had 3 ER in 5 innings, 2 of them early. So basically he was in a groove. He also only had a 64 pitch count. Bernardino then comes in and gives up 2 in .02 innings. I think Cora has screwed up Buehler and Houck with his pulling them and resting them too.
  25. Its not like they took some chance and it didn't work out. It was just a completely avoidable case of lack of attention to detail and unprofessionalism by Cora and Breslow. They get Bregman and first say hes going to play 2nd and then go back on what they said and just put him on 3rd. And then theres all this "he said, he said" stuff, showing the world that the FO and coaches aren't on the same page and seem to have competing visions for the team. Not a great look, but not just a bad look for the public to see but the players themselves. Looks dysfunctional and unsafe. Personally I think Devers has been proven right. Look at what theyre doing to Campbell. Asking a rookie, whos trying to find his way to play all these different positions as his stats go down the drain. They play Meyers 3rd in the lineup and he just arrived. Yes Devers has come around while playing DH but he is and always has been our best hitter so it's not like Cora uncovered some hidden gem. I think he's more responsible for the nightmarish start.
