  1. Castillo is at best the #4 SP in the Mariners rotation today. He got the opening day start out not respect. Both players are close to the same age with fairly similar contracts and both fit the needs of each team. There are FAR dumber trade suggestions on this forum than this.
  2. i said last offseason I was not real high on Crawford but although he gave up a lot of HR. he exceeded my projection for him. Henry has directed his flunky baseball ops to build this team through the farm sprinkled with veterans on 1-2 yr deals so I dont see us adding any top FA SP. You may be right with a guy like Martinez but that won't win me back
  3. we really only need 1 TOP QUALITY new SP since we have Gioloto coming back
  4. i am not say he is not better than Crawford. what I AM saying is that when you factor in what his contract would be I don't think he would be a big enough upgrade. I am SICK AND BLOODY tired of the revolving door on players coming and going on short term deals of which the majority don't pan out. I want 25-28 or 29 yr old SP that fit in the window of our young players.
  5. Casas is the only one of those that could help bring back a SP.. how about Story to Seattle for Castillo ?
  6. the point is that the Sox have OF depth but need SP and BP help. Duran on his own will not fetch us an ace but perhaps as part of a package for one.
  7. that likely won't get it done. Unless Story and or Yoshida are traded Sox won't be paying big for a SP in their 30's
  8. that is probably who we will get then on a 1 yr deal probably. I would just as soon stick with Crawford.
  9. very good chance they will never go over again while JH owns the team
  10. they may have valued him but he was not in John Henry's price range
  11. i am not familiar with Martinez but looking at his stats does not really excite me along with the fact he is soon to be 35. I am tired of these type of signings. If we follow my plan our rotation would be: Fried SP Via trade Houck Bello Gioloto Crawford would be the long man and Whitlock is a full time RP. Need to add a good LH reliever but I think the Sox are counting on Fulmer and Hendricks in the pen along with Slaten. I dont see a Fried signing unless either Yoshida and or Story are dealt though.
  12. I believe that if not for the injuries Mayer would already be in Boston but Rafaela can fill in at SS if need be. Not perfect but he did a decent job there once he got his feet wet at the position., I am sure we would need to eat some $$$ on both Yoshia and Story but it's not like we haven't done that before.
  13. If I am Breslow I look to trade both Story and Yoshida as Mayer I believe is close to ready. I would then try and see if a package with Campbell and Abreu would bring a solid young SP. Then if we were able to deal Story and or Yoshida they could then consider taking the risk of signing Burnes or Fried. That could be done and also stay below the luxury cap. I would then see if Janssen would take a 1-2 yr deal. The only other thing need would be adding a RH bat preferably a guy who could play the OF or 2B. With these moves I think the Sox could be true contenders as early as next year.
  14. there is always risk signing SP to long term deals when they are entering their 30's. Sox have been burned in the past and I think that is why they will stay away from guys like Burnes and Fried. I am sure they would prefer to trade for a young QUALITY COST CONTROLLED SP instead. That would also fit into their window of young talent they currently have both on the roster and the 3-4 top prospects they currently have.
  15. how do you figure Campbell could bring back a top caliber SP as he hasn't even played a MLB game yet. Perhaps as part of a package.
  16. that is because almost all their infielders including their regular infielders save the part time one are like utility infielders
  17. the only thing that matters with Duran is that he has turned into a good player and is relatively cheap for the next 4 years when he will be 32. Sox will then not resign him saying that as he ages his speed will diminish.
  18. yeah but it fits in the budget Henry has approved
  19. they had a shot at a decent RP but held outstay for Jeter Downs lol
  20. i agree but that is the only way i trade him. this team has to get at least 1 more young top SP to go with Bello, and Houck
  21. i am pretty sure the Sox would really like to get off the Story contract as well.
