  1. Moon I know you know my point, and we just disagree. I’m not against players making more money, and I have said there should be a payroll floor on what each team at least have to spend up to, which should give more players more money unless you load up on $30M+ contracts. I also don’t disagree that the owners try, and squeeze every last cent they can, and pay the players as little as possible, but because they are the owners they can try, and do do that.
  2. That’s my point that both sides need each other, and the owners like it, or not control the purse strings. The players are the show, but the owners put on the show.
  3. I did NOT say it wasn’t the same thing. I just said we were talking about baseball. I don’t really care what percent makes what either for the owners, or the players. I say if the owners can’t afford, or want to pay a payroll to make them competitive then sell to someone who can, and if a player can’t live off what he gets payed then go find another job that he can.
  4. Yes you could apply to other entertainment industries, but we’re talking about baseball. Yes there is money being made off these players, but like I said the owners put on the show. Why don’t the players put on there own show? Just like there is big differences on what owners spend on payroll there is big differences on what players make, and that’s why the average salary gets up to $4M+. What do you call a max contract, and what would you limit?
  5. As I have stated before I blame both sides, and I still do. I still don’t have any sympathy for the players even at $500K. How many non professional baseball players would like to make $500K, and could live more than comfortably. The players are the show there is no question about that, but the owners are the ones who put on the show, which the players can’t do without, and if they could they would. Has the owners bargained in good faith NO. There is no doubt to me that they wanted a fight, and had no intention of starting the season, which sucks all the way around, and is bad for the sport. Call the owners all the names you want, but that won’t faze them one bit. The only thing that would would be to hit them in their wallets, but that won’t happen either.
  6. Getting the bottom feeders to spend up would be the hard part, but that would be more money for the players.
  7. I agree with this mostly, and have been saying for a long time about having a hard cap on the bottom, and a hard cap on top would be the fairest, and best way to do things. Of course agreeing to what those numbers would be would be the biggest challenge.
  8. It’s the latter. If it was to spread the wealth there would be a tax on the bottom too.
  9. The best thing I like about this site, and noticed from the beginnings is how welcoming everyone is on here, and how they encourage new, and different views, and opinions. Some more than others. Not all sites are like that, but like I have said before that I read many papers, and listen, and watch different talk shows, and that there is a big world out there of Red Sox Nation, and the opinions on here are just a very small sample size of what Red Sox fans really think.
  10. They got the owners once before for collusion.
  11. You’re right, and I’ll do better.
  12. Who said anything about anyone having to go?? I didn’t, and I’m not the one making the change, but just applauding it. I didn’t have to listen before, and you don’t have to listen now. You might not like it, but I’ve heard lots of people who do.
  13. Well I think it would be fun, and entertaining.
  14. Something like that.
  15. Hey Moon wouldn’t it be great if we could do a sports talk show together? We could take over for Felger, and Mazz.
  16. Why didn’t you stop when you said last word? Can’t help yourself. Over, and out.
  17. This was written, before you said last word, so I guess you didn’t mean last word.
  18. Different strokes for different folks. Amazing that the Red Sox were the last to get a Black player, but the Celtics were the first.
  19. It’s no different now. You are taking something I said, and put your spin on it. Wrong before, and wrong now. At least you admitted it last time.
  20. I was done yesterday when I said we’ll go with I should have worded it different, but for some reason you have kept it going today.
  21. I guess it depends on how old you are, and how far back you go. I used to listen to many teams on the East Coast on my AM radio, in the 60’s and even at times get depending on the atmosphere the Detroit Tigers. Lots of great announcers back then too. My total use of analytics is looking at box scores, and I don’t want anything more than that. I know most eat up the analytics stuff, and nothing wrong with that, but I have no desire.
  22. Do you remember when you said that i didn’t like Cora, because I said I wouldn’t have hired him back, because of his cheating scandal? I never said I didn’t like Cora, because I like Cora, but by your interpretation that meant to you I didn’t. You even apologized for it, so it isn’t like you, or your logic haven’t been wrong before just like this time.
  23. The only way that analytics has changed the game is the shift? What about the pitching? That is a lot bigger change to me than the shifting. Saying the game has gotten worse does not mean I have turned off from the game. Pace, and length of the game has certainly not made the game better in my opinion either, but if I had my pick I would go back to 60’s baseball.
  24. No! I don’t get it, because I DID NOT SAY Moon you said the players are poor, poor, and pitiful. The point is obvious to you, because that’s how you want to interpret it. What would have been obvious is if I said Moon you said those things. Your logic is not everyone’s logic.
  25. The whole game has changed radically to me, and also to me not for the better. Analytics to me has a lot to do with that, and once again I think the game has gotten worse, and not better. Imagine telling Bob Gibson, or Louie Tiant they had to come out of a WS game in the 6th inning because they can’t face a batter for the 3rd time. So are you saying getting rid of the shift is more radical than the radicallly increase of the shift?
