  1. Sounds like a pipe dream to me, and like always I’ll believe it when I see happen. Until then I’ll expect bargain basement shopping being the status quo, and think this is not only the new JH, but the JH going forward.
  2. He said it in 2018 that it was a mistake. That is not hindsight.
  3. I said it was bad at the time to give him the ext. He had worn down at the end of 2018, and he still had one more year on his contract in 2019, but they gave the ext anyway, and he has pretty much not been worth it since.
  4. Shaugnessy said today that Sales contract is looking more, and more like a Pablo, and Crawford bad contract signing. I agree. DD signed the ext, and ownership signed off on it knowing pretty much that surgery was going to happen, which it did, and the last 3 years going on a fourth was nowhere near being worth it. Add the fact that he isn’t vexed, and can’t pitch in Toronto when he can pitch doesn’t help either.
  5. How about JHB values? That’s all that matters.
  6. Seems like Freeman, and the Braves could have worked something out with 1 more year added.
  7. The D should be alright, but the O could be another story.
  8. Kris Bryant FA signs with the Rockies for $182M/7 yr. I guess the Red Sox came up a little short.
  9. We’ll just for you I will revise my young, and inexperienced statement, because for some reason I thought Houck had been around for 3-4 years. I don’t know why, but I did. I still though would rather see Whitlock in the pen in the late innings, and that’s the biggest reason I would put Houck in the rotation over Him.
  10. Wasn’t supposedly at one time the Red Sox were the front runner to land Suzuki? Were the Cubs even mentioned back then?
  11. I read them all, but No I don’t listen to rumors, but the point I was getting at was what it would look like if the Rays did outbid the Yankees, Red Sox, and Yankees. I know you were hoping for a gotcha moment, but Sorry to disappoint you, but reading on here many times that the Red Sox have interest in someone, and the wishing, and hoping that comes along with it. The Red Sox had interest in John Lester too for about $70M.
  12. Yes it is a close call, and honestly I thought Houck had pitched more innings than that.
  13. Not terribly upset, but I was counting on Whitlock being the closer, or at the very least 7-8 innings guy, and even that would be expecting a lot from him as young, and inexperienced he is.
  14. I don’t think it’s any reason. It may be a benefit, but analytics is not even thinking about injury prevention.
  15. I’m just basing my judgement on how many starts both have had in the Big Leagues, and just giving my opinion like you are. Sorry it doesn’t match yours. Like I said earlier we’ll see what Cora does.
  16. Nobody said Whitlock is a lock to be good, but there has been all kinds of putting him in the rotation, and I’m just wondering based on what. One good year in the big leagues? Yes he is promising based on last year, but like I keep saying it’s only been one year.
  17. According to Heyman the Rays are still in on Freeman. How would that look if they outbid the Sox, Yankees, and Dodgers?
  18. That’s why you never listen to interest, and rumors.
  19. You’ve seen his stuff for 2 innings at a time, and for the most part 2-3 days in between appearances, so how can you make that judgement? That’s the problem that there aren’t lots of options let alone good ones.
  20. I already said earlier that Houck needed another pitch along with consistency to be a good starter. Nobody has seen Whitlock as a stater, and just expect him to pitch like last year. After only one year in the majors I don’t think you can count on that.
  21. Agree on this, and I’ve been saying right along that the Red Sox had to much talent to start last season to not have a good team. 2020 had to be thrown right out the window along with JD not having his binky iPad, and having the worst season of his career. I also have said as close as the Sox were to getting into the WS they were just as close to not making the post season at all. Anything can happen, but usually not two years in a row. 2018 to 2019, and 2020 to 2021 are examples of that.
  22. Have you seen Whitlock as a starter? Who knows if he can even do it, or even be as good as last year if he doesn’t. If he does great, but i don’t think you can expect it. Houck has more experience as a starter, so I would go with him first. Cora’s decision, so we’ll see what happens.
  23. The third time through the order business is not to prevent injuries, but nothing more than analytics. Houck has been around long enough now, so time to take the kid gloves off, and see what he can do.
  24. With Sale out for who knows how long Houck may be next man up.
  25. Did he ever visit the Sox like he did other teams?
