    While it’s nice that Raffy was locked up I don’t believe, because he was that automatically means that JH wouldn’t sell the team. As for misreading the room the contract might not have been for so long, and not quite as much money if this would have been done last offseason. This doesn’t really change this coming year as Raffy was going to be there anyway, and there is two major steps that has to happen in 2023 at the very least. Get back to a winning record, and get out of last place. Getting back to the postseason should be the goal though.

    I’ll say I was wrong tomorrow that JH would open his checkbook, and shell out this much money after I recover from the shock tonight. I don’t like these long $300M deals, but I’m glad Raffy’s in the fold.

    We would not assume he would take any offer based on Olson, but that is what Bloom offered, and as far as I know there was no counter offer.

    So here we are once again, and I can’t see Raffy signing now, because I can’t see the Red Sox knocking Raffy over with a offer he can’t refuse, and even though he has 1 more year to go before FA it’s almost like he is already a FA, and Raffy will just wait till the time comes when he can field offers from other teams, and when that happens I can’t see the Red Sox outbidding anyone.

    But wasn’t Olson supposedly who they referenced in the contract offer last offseason to Raffy?

    As you know I’m a 0% when it comes to metrics, so I don’t care either way. I don’t think the SD owner cared about Bogey’s metrics either.

    Seeing what Story, and Yoshida does the next 5 years will be more like it. I hope Bogey has a good, and productive career the next 11 years.

    Who knows if that would have been enough last offseason to lock up Raffy.

    I don’t think JH is sitting there with a metric sheet, and using that to decide if he is going to sign someone, or not. He has seen enough of Boygey, and Raffy play to know what they can do.

    Did Bogey light the world on fire last year, and look what he got. All it takes is one owner to go nuts.

    Would you say Raffy’s asking price has gone up $100M, or so since last offseason, and do you think JH would want to pay all those xtra millions?

    I don’t even try to figure out why Bloom does some of the things he does, and I don’t think he does either. I would not have signed Story over Bogey, and definitely not Story, and the $100M man from Japan over Raffy.

    What Bogey ended up getting I agree is a big overpay, which went up by the millions, and millions of what the Red Sox offered him last year, and what I believe he would have taken last year, which I believe the same will turn out the same way for Raffy. I don’t believe anyone has ever suggested that the Red Sox should have come close to paying Bogey what he ended up getting. The problem has always been letting Bogey getting to FAnin the first place, and not offering him a fair market offer.

    You over analyze. I’m just stating the obvious that Raffy’s asking price has gone up by the millions since last offseason. Another misreading the room by Bloom that would cost JH millions more now to sign Raffy that I don’t believe he will.

    Just like with the Bogey so called negotiating the Raffy price has gone up 10 fold since the offer last offseason, which I would say is at least in the vicinity of $100M. Now if JH didn’t want to pay last offseason why would he want to may millions more now? That wouldn’t make any financial sense at all.

    We know he’s going to have money, because the Red Sox won’t come cheap.

    Give me any owner who’s willing to spend, and get a real BB guy to run the organization.
