  1. $500M is not acceptable no matter what the AAV is.
  2. The bonus spread out over the contract for tax purposes is simple if that’s what it is, but we don’t know if that’s how it is, and why a report would say paid up front. $17.5M is what Raffy is being paid in 2023. That part I think is clear.
  3. It shouldn’t be this complicated, but I guess it is. The physical hasn’t happened yet, and as we have just recently seen anything can happen there too.
  4. The $331M is counting the $17.5M that had already been negotiated, so call it 11/$331M, or 10/$313.5 M. Where the $20M bonus ties in?
  5. Then why are they saying it’s being paid up front?
  6. To me if the $20M, and the $17.5M is subtracted wouldn’t that leave 10yrs, and $293.5M left?
  7. I report I saw said the $20M signing bonus would be paid upfront, and then Raffy will earn $17.5M for 2023.
  8. You do realize that SoxTalk is just another form of sports talk radio?
  9. The way I read the deal, and I’m far from saying I’m right, but Raffy gets a $20M signing bonus up front. He then gets $17.5M for 2023, so then wouldn’t that take the 10yrs left under $300M?
  10. And it meant very little too.
  11. Right on that saying I was tongue in cheek in saying Henry must be one of the bad guys for listening , and appearing on sports talk radio, but not as an opinion of mine, but more of an opinion of yours, because sports talk radio is bad even though SoxTalk is just another form of sports talk radio, and we all appear on here.
  12. I feel what that Henry is a bad guy? You know I feel that way? Just like I hated Cora to you, because I said I wouldn’t rehire him. You are consistent, but consistently wrong. I said Henry had used up his usefulness, but I never said Henry was a bad guy, and I don’t think he was, or is. Once again I haven’t listen to talk shows since September.
  13. Raffy gets a $20M signing bonus up front, so how does that work out?
  14. Well you know Henry has to be one of the bad guys, because he listens to sports call in talk shows, and even was a guest on one. What a guy!
  15. Henry heard it from the boo birds one day, and signs Raffy a couple days later. Those big rabbit ears must have been burning that day enough to give Bloom the word to get Raffy locked up.
  16. Signing Raffy was good, but it doesn’t take away from the botched, and bungling exhibited by both Bloom, and JH, and yes in other words dumb, and dumber.
  17. Keeping fit is the biggest worry to me especially with his body type, which broke down the second half last year.
  18. While it’s nice that Raffy was locked up I don’t believe, because he was that automatically means that JH wouldn’t sell the team. As for misreading the room the contract might not have been for so long, and not quite as much money if this would have been done last offseason. This doesn’t really change this coming year as Raffy was going to be there anyway, and there is two major steps that has to happen in 2023 at the very least. Get back to a winning record, and get out of last place. Getting back to the postseason should be the goal though.
  19. He’ll have a no trade after his 10th full year with the Red Sox anyways.
  20. I’ll say I was wrong tomorrow that JH would open his checkbook, and shell out this much money after I recover from the shock tonight. I don’t like these long $300M deals, but I’m glad Raffy’s in the fold.
  21. I would call it partial offers.
  22. We would not assume he would take any offer based on Olson, but that is what Bloom offered, and as far as I know there was no counter offer.
  23. So here we are once again, and I can’t see Raffy signing now, because I can’t see the Red Sox knocking Raffy over with a offer he can’t refuse, and even though he has 1 more year to go before FA it’s almost like he is already a FA, and Raffy will just wait till the time comes when he can field offers from other teams, and when that happens I can’t see the Red Sox outbidding anyone.
  24. But wasn’t Olson supposedly who they referenced in the contract offer last offseason to Raffy?
