    I get that starting pitchers aren’t viewed like they used to be, because the game has changed. Starting pitchers used to be admired as much as the big sluggers, but even today I think a pitcher does care about his W-L record.

    All is all including the eye test. Some stats like the W-L you have to delve deeper like with Bello, and Houck this past year' but then again with Sale, and Skubal you don’t. Each case is different, but ALL stats matter to some agree IMO.

    Who were the two best starters in Baseball last year? Skubal, and Sale. They had the most wins, the lowest ERA, and most K’s. ALL stats mean something. It depends on how many you want, and how far you want to delve into them. Sometimes like in this case you don’t have to go very deep at all, and sometimes you have to. ALL stats do mean something.

    Last year both Houck, and Bello made 30 starts. Houck went 9-10 with a 3.12. Bello on the other hand went 14-8 with a 4.49. Now I watched enough games to know that Houck was the better pitcher, so the good old eye test told me that. Now you can throw out there all the stats you want, and need, but do you think Houck would rather have been 9-10, or 14-8?

    Mass Live by Chris Cotillo. I read this yesterday, and reported this yesterday. Supposedly happened at the Winter Meetings.

    Yes it did, but what does that have to do with working on both trades at the same time? If Seattle would have taken Masa that trade could have gone through, and not the Crochet deal.

    The report is the Red Sox were working on deals at the same time with Castillo from Seattle, and Crochet from Chicago. Casas would go to Seattle, but Seattle, balked at taking Masa, so then the deal was finalized with Chicago. Which would have been better? Time will tell.

    Where’s the love for Masa? The Globe reported the Sox were in discussions with Seattle for Castillo for Casas, but the Red Sox would not do straight up, and wanted to include Masa. It didn’t work out, so Boston turned to Chicago for Crochet.

    Ok I’ll try to clarify. I just don’t think Bello would be the last option to be in the rotation, or even yet not be in the rotation at all. 2025 Bue, and 2025 Gio are no sure thing, and Cro is vastly untested innings wise to know what you’ll get. If Bello takes a leap this year like Houck did last year yes I think he could be their best starter.

    No I do not care who is better, or who does better. I hope they Both turn out to be top of the rotation starters. It started out by me saying Bello was not a 5-6 starter, and the rest came after that. I don’t get into the slotting of SP. To me you have 5 starters, and some are better than others. I don’t set there on game day, and say we’ve got a #4 going against a #2. Bello was already locked into the starting rotation after the 2023 for the 2024 season. Houck was not, and if Gio hadn’t gone down Houck might not have started the season in the rotation at all, so Bello was ahead of Houck. Houck had a good, and consistent season this year, which was good to see for him, and the Sox. I hope Both Bello, and Houck continue to improve, and get better, but I don’t care where they rank.

    Bello is 25, and Houck is 28. Bello has some time to catch up, and get better. Whether he does get better is another question.

    Good for Houck, and good for the Sox if he can replicate 2024, and may even get better, but then again he may not. I personally don’t give a rat’s a** who turns out to be the better pitcher in the long run.

    I don’t know why you are focusing on Bello so much. All I said was he’s not the 5-6 starter on a team with so many ifs, ands, and buts. Bue most likely will see 2021 stats again. Cro is untested not only in innings, but pitching in Boston. Gio was last seen as a batting practice/HR Derby pitcher. I said he’s still Big Baby Bello, and if he gets rid of that he may get better, and who knows maybe the best starter on the team this year. If not then No big deal.

    I wouldn’t call Houck awesome his first three years. He bounced around some between starting, and relieving, which probably didn’t help, and had some consistency problems, and couldn’t get over that 5th inning wall. A few injuries didn’t help either. Last year he was healthy, pretty much consistent, and upped his innings load. Can he build on that, and get better time will tell.

    Bello is still Big Baby Bello, so if he can get over that he’d probably be better.

    Houck has had 1 good, and healthy year, so until he does it again in 2025 I’m not ready to anoint him the next big thing yet. Cro has pitched 65+ innings just once, so I’ll wait to see how in can handle an increased workload, and how he handles Boston before I anoint him too. Sounds like you already have,

    Yes Bello would help get a decent return, but I don’t think Brez has any thoughts of trading him, or that the Red Sox have an over abundance of pitching depth that’s not short term they could spare him in a deal.

    Bello is NOT going to be anyone’s 5th pitcher let alone 6th pitcher. He may end end up being the best pitcher on the staff this year. You guys make it sound like Roger, Pedro, Sale, Beckett, and Schill is in front of him, and they are not. Not even close.

    If they are ready then great, but I don’t think Brez sits in office, and thinks we’ve got so much pitching depth what are we going to do with it all, so let’s trade a young controlled pitcher like Bello. Gio, Bue are not long term solutions, and who knows how long Cro will be around. As we’ve learned the last few years all the so called starting pitchers depth will most likely be needed at some point during the season if not all.

    Does anyone even know if he’ll be ready to start the season. I read one report that said Whit, and Gio will most likely start the year on the IL.

    Depth is one thing. Good depth is another.

    Good!👍Bello is not being traded, or being the odd man out for the rotation. Plenty of potential, but plenty of uncertainty too. Gio coming off an injury, Cro has only pitched over 65 innings once, and who knows about Bue. Houck has had only one good healthy year, and will have to prove it again. That doesn’t sound like so much depth that Bello could be traded. 🙈. Bello May end up being their best starter this year.

    Old news, and was his healthiest, and most successful year. He was a cheap option as a starter.
