  1. It's all part of the Great Build-Out of '24: develop a 12-man rotation -- then convert some of them to shortstops... never to be traded. Sorry, that's all we got today. Except Scott Bore Us.
  2. I see what you did there, Moon -- blending Bloom and Breslow acquisitions, to reflect the overlap... as if no real changes have been made at the top of the org! Nice work...
  3. If a Bowie Kuhn-type commish was running this thread, he'd void your post in the best interests of Boras.
  4. Take it easy. Some people crack jokes to deal with their helplessness. Others enjoy arguing -- even if they've advocated for months for big money free agent signings or trades for actually talented ballplayers. Ultimately, these Red Sox are all big leaguers, and if we chose to, we can watch or even attend big league games to cheer for them. They may change the color of their shirts, or get tattoos we feel mar their appearance... but in the end, they're our Red Sox, and we'll still love them. The owners and front office are counting on us.
  5. A member of the most inciteful Red Sox forum on the net has to be reminded that the best players always play short -- which means they can play anywhere! And the average throw from SS to 1B is twice the distance from the mound to home plate. So the big question is: why hasn't Breslow brought in an expert at converting shortstops to starting pitcher by now? Tom Thumbuphisarse said he meant they were going to "press all levers." PRESS this.
  6. Isn't that how some cooks see if spaghetti is ready? Sox marketing 101: whatever crap sticks, pour some hot sauce over it, and sell it -- dumb fans will lap it right up.
  7. Red Sox Incentives: #1 Don't worry, we don't care about winning, either! #2 We'll guarantee you less money AND less years! #3 ... but who else will pay you not to pitch for 1 1/2 seasons, while you work out in your home gym?
  8. Breslow said this weekend a big part of the build-out will be drafting pitchers -- who usually take about five years to make the majors and establish themselves as big leaguers. That's basically an admission the Red Sox will be wasting Devers' prime; he's only signed for 10 more years...
  9. Incentive #1: Come win a ring! Incentive #2: If we trade you at the deadline, we promise it will be to a contender. Incentive #3: You don't have to re-sign with the team that will come in last place again!
  10. Seems kind of a waste to have a good closer if he doesn't get a good amount of leads to save. Trading Jansen for a decent prospect should be a priority for the Tank Sox. It also would be a good opportunity to break in a younger guy for the back end: not a lot of high pressure games, some 7th or 8th inning match-ups, then a few saves vs. other non-contenders.
  11. I know some posters despise John Tomase, but he wrote a column today echoing our concerns that "Everything Needs To Go Just Right..." Since every guy who makes the big leagues is one of the best ballplayers in the world... then all of them have the potential to become All-Stars... Boston just needs about six or eight to morph into stars at the same time.
  12. Of course. But any fan can see that good teams are assembled from all the ways of player acquisition. And just like GMs can't empty the farm and swap for big-time talent... nor can they say we're just going to let our homegrown guys mature -- and not supplement them with veteran stars who will establish a winning culture. Especially when it comes to pitching. Seasons should never be forfeited for the future. Teams can't wait until they have good regulars before they recruit good starting pitchers. It all starts with starters.
  13. Winter Weakening 2024... ...featuring Sam Morrison on stage: You know that it would be untrue You know that I would be a liar If I was to say to you Ticket prices won't go higher
  14. The noise from that '13 team -- for fans of the strategy of collecting affordable free agents bent on comebacks -- always seems to drown out the fact that the best Red Sox were mostly still homegrown stars. 2013 World Champion WAR Leaders: Pedroia 6.1, Victorino 6.0, Ellsbury 5.8, Ortiz 4.4, Buchholz 4.3.
  15. They're so young, the breakout is likely to be caused by lactose overdose (but never hormones).
  16. There are two bullpens now on most MLB rosters: the back-end -- couple set-up men (ideally, one righty, one lefty), plus closer -- and the middle inning crew of interchangeable one-time through-the-order arms and bulk guys. Starting rotations of five horses, with a few call-ups in Triple A in case of injury, are so last century. Today's staff that's built to last has a rotation of 10-12 men in the system always stretched out but ready to compress and throw harder than ever in shorter innings.
  17. Option 1 is definitely the best option for a new CBO looking for the quickest way to improve the D... but alas, the most expensive. And sorry I called you a lass... should've been a lad.
  18. Coming in on a wing and a prayer.
  19. Waiting for B&B to focus on our former best pitching prospect -- and put Noah Song back on top of the Billboard 100.
  20. Wonder if Brez covets those assets because he was more a pitch-to-contact, offspeed kinda pitcher. Red Sox people: always want what we can't have. Why, it was just this weekend Craig was talking about the Red Sox reclaiming their "rightful place atop the division." How entitled...
  21. Baerga was another that got an extension. He was a star back then. I don't see the Sox doing a Chourio, like the Brewers did for a guy who hasn't even made the majors. Then again, the Dodgers did same with Yo Yama. But Bloom inked Whitlock after his Rule V bullpen stardom, so the Sox' 400-man front office must discuss such strategy. Casas would seem a natural. If Brez did lock up the Big Three prospects, wouldn't that also make them even more tradeable? For example, Albies is "under control" for the next four years at $7M AAV... who wouldn't want an All-Star in his prime at those prices? Also have to wonder what a doormat like the Sox would give up for the great Oz instead of Grissom? More than Sale...
  22. Leave Sam alone. The Red Sox asked him to stand in their dugout this year so batters can hang their pine-tar helmets on his Pinocchio nose.
  23. Remember back in the '90s when Cleveland was locking up all its good young players? The then-Tribe was starting a trend for all small-market teams (like Boston wants to be).
  24. The Astros must think that since they're still good, it's ok to spend on good pitching.
  25. Henry says nothing. But Sam says the budget will be less than last year, so forget about spending on an ace or extending young guys. Just remember what Tom -- the voice of ownership -- told you: there's more to like about going to Fenway Park than just the Red Sox' won-loss record.
