  1. Once the Soto rumors are officially rumors, I swear to give John Henry more money... at least a dollar so I can read about the rumors on Boston.com for the next six months.
  2. Should find out soon if it was Soto news or Soto ruse... or Sox got Soto used.
  3. Or in the Dominican -- they have strong connections there!
  4. Shared on a credible social network: Bogaerts' own private platform!
  5. Soto's sister has scheduled apartment tours in Boston. She's older than Juan, so probably not a student -- maybe she's checking them out for family...
  6. Not into malakas, Dino. The last guy a young core of players needs to show them how not to act on and off the field, the last guy a manager with a tainted past needs to deal with, the last guy an insecure organization trying to earn back fan trust needs, the last guy Sam Kennedy needs to hold Damage Control pressers and answer honest questions about... is this bigmouth sociopath.
  7. Ya, when your bullpen loses two guys who were the main men in the 8th and 9th innings, that doesn't leave any kind of quality depth for the relief corps (and no, I didn't accidentally leave off the "e"...). But lost in all the hype among Hall of Famer hitter and Game One starters is the key to most champions' postseasons... pop culture hint: their dog is white with a 101 black spots.
  8. For me to hope Soto picks Boston, it takes a lot less to believe it's because of a legacy of Dominican greats -- Pedro, Papi, Manny, Raffy... ... than the Red Sox will top all bidders.
  9. Don't forget Roki! Another guy on MLB just said, the Red Sox are so in, he wouldn't be surprised if they sign two of Burnes, Fried and Sasaki.
  10. If Soto really was on eBay, the Red Sox wouldn't be making bids hours before the auction ends. All that does is drive up the price... what they would actually do is watch the red clock on the Soto page, and post their best offer with less than 10 seconds left, so the other players have to scramble to try and beat it before time runs out. In other words, be very suspicious that big Red Sox offers are somehow circulating (and leaking), when we have no idea what the Dodgers or even Blue Jays are thinking.
  11. domino 6 - tell free agent pitchers they can even get some ABs and green lights to swing away (if they want) once a month, when we rest all our DHs. Barnum and Bailey are still ex-pitchers, and remember the days from Little League through high school when pitchers also played shortstop when they weren't on the mound, and batted clean-up. How many times do you think Chaim thought of that when he was the flea markets?
  12. Boras will always seek to squeeze every last penny out of bidders for his clients -- that's his job. But egos aside; when a player is already guaranteed to be paid more money than he or his great-great grandkids can ever spend, then it all comes down to where he really wants to work for the next decade (or half-decade with an opt-out). Sorry... for a second there, I almost sounded logical.
  13. Yesterday, after Passan finally tweeted to mock the "report," Mick replied, calling Passan a malaka for getting caught with his pants down, and standing by his declaration: Soto to Boston. But this morning there is internet silence. Everyone is afraid -- really, in this age of disinformation? Ain't that American.
  14. Yoshida is getting stronger after his surgery. There are already pics posted of him pumping plastic, air-filled dumbbells.
  15. Why not -- it is my money, because if this happens, I promise to go back to Fenway, pay hundreds for tickets and parking, drink watered down beer in a plastic cup and eat fried peppers, onions and a heart attack on a soggy bun, with mustard and high fructose corn syrup!
  16. And I have already voiced my suspicions (to my son, at least) that these Boston "leaks" are merely a Boras ploy to get NY NY to just bid higher...
  17. I don't care what the metrics say about "batting third" ( oh my), or if Soto-Devers bat 2-3 or 3-4 or 8-9; they are going to hit back-to-back somewhere, in the best interests of maximizing an epic 1-2 punch.
  18. You're just saying that because Soto's career On-Base Percentage is ahead of every single batter in history since Ted Williams, except one (Bonds)... and just ahead of Mantle.
  19. The numbers don't matter, as long as Soto bats directly in front of the next-best longball hitter, who will benefit immensely facing exhausted pitchers after Juan's trademark marathon and terrifying (to them) at bats. See Judge, circa 2024.
  20. IF... gotta believe Soto-Devers hit 2-3 in the batting order for the next decade.
  21. That's why they have to overpay for Fried, which is going to kill John Henry -- but it may make a really interesting winter, as Brez will then have to rely on some major trades after that. Unfortunately, that will preclude also signing Jack Flaherty and reuniting the old Harvard Westlake rotation... and that means no Jon Lovitz reprising his role from League of Their Own (he also went to their high school).
  22. What is more likely is that Soto signs with a NY team and Boston immediately overpays for Fried. That would be a horrible move if -- and I'm sure Brez and Co. know this -- the Sox don't improve the infield defense. So the corresponding dominoes will be signing a third baseman, and trading Casas for pitching. If they also lose out on Fried, expect another overpay for Burnes, a reliever, and Teoscar... and Devers stays at third for another year. In either scenario, eating Yoshida's contract and trading Abreu for more pitching (and to make room for Anthony) are also likely. I don't expect Brez to also sign a #2, as they will also be overpays, if Kikuchi's contract is any portent. They will try to add another starter in a trade. Any leftover budget will be spent on more relievers and a back-up catcher.
  23. They can want whatever they want. What they'll ultimately get might be a little south for a guy with only two years of control who has only ever had one half season of stardom.
  24. How many times has a Minor League Player of the Year not moved up to the big leagues the next season? What more does he have to prove -- that he can be a repeat winner at AAA? Or that he's not already better than at least the 26th player on 30 MLB rosters?
  25. Mookie's going to carry a bowling pin in his back pocket the next time he plays in Yankee Stadium.
