  1. O'Neill redeems himself, now up to Yoshida to pull this Houdini act off. No bouncer to pitcher, 2B or 1 B, Yoshi
  2. Devers, 6 for last 50 per OBie. The indisputable math says that is a .120 BA, but I'm sure his OPS is much higher. Maybe not. The indomitable Devers has sadly fallen out of the .900 OPS club with this little slump. If it is the shoulder(s) , then STFD , If it isn't then that is really sad.
  3. Three rally killers , GIDP. Better if they just K'ed, You never know, the next guy might hit the ground ball out but with 2 gone, who cares ?
  4. Houck kept them close after surrendering the Grand Slam , LOL . Now can the BP do the same. ? There are plenty more rallyy killing DP's waiting, but can someone, ANYONE, hit a damn HR on this team ?
  5. Duran would have to get very hot, but he could catch Devers in HRs, RBI's , BA and OPS. Realistically, Jarren will be #2 to the $300+ million dollar man in some categories. Keep in mind that Tyler O'neill has 50 RBI's on 25 HR's. When the Sox have a team flight or dinner, does Tyler go SOLO ?
  6. All of a sudden Houck is the master and the Mets are his bitches. Sox better not lose this game by 1 run.
  7. At this point of the year, Wong has to have tired legs, Why push it with Crusher Valdez up ?
  8. One of the odd things about Sox starters and 1st innings is watching their pregame prep and warmup. It is actually very extensive under the direct eye of Bailey. If anything , they may be tired going out for the first.
  9. Definitely not . But Breslow had the same dilemma at the trade deadline. Could they keep winning, absolutely need a RH bat with power potential. By mid- August the tide had started shifting but too late.
  10. Games are always different when the bottom of the lineup contributes. Valdez, Sogard and Duran start it, with Devers and Abreu actually delivering the mail this time. 4-3. Winnable game if Houck can stay on track
  11. Houck shows there's nothing to starting pitching like being ready for the first inning . He shuts the Mets off in the 2nd. Good job, son
  12. Not that it would change results on the field daily, but consider the Sox from about 2003 on through 2018. There were some Sox lifers on most all of those teams, some won the WS, some finished last but there was a veteran presence. Look down the lineup and other than Devers , who has been around for awhile ? The mental toughness to get through a 162 game season is new to many of these young guys. I don't count Yoshida as a Sox veteran plus there is a language barrier. Rich Hill just arrived and it's a joke by Breslow anyway. Maybe Mickey Gaspar can shake the bat rack for them.
  13. The Sox have become unwatchable in this streak of win 1 , lose 2 or more. First inning says it all. Sox 3 hitters look like they play for the Little Sisters of the Poor, and Mets put a knife in Tanner's ribs with the slam. Couldn't get much worse right now.
  14. Just asking , but what is Breslow achieving by having Mickey Gaspers on the 28 . 0-12 for the SSS and career. I assume it is to allow Wong and D. Jansen to play in the same game and still have a spare C. Along similar lines, I appreciate and respect Rich Hill still competing, sort of, at the MLB level but honestly, is that the best option from the entire Red Sox system, DFA slag heap, and retired list ? Gaspers and Hill showed up before the roster expansion. Breslow will get a pass on this season, but between his bad luck with the now injured signings/pickups and Story /Grissom's season long misses , Craig really needs to have a championship off season. Especially if the Sox slip below the tide line and slide further backwards.
  15. Almost a month without a walk but 26 K's. Raffy Devers having his own terrible stat streak . Interesting comments by Peter Abraham talking about Devers non-leadership in clubhouse.
  16. Been out of the country for a couple weeks so just catching up on the recent play and the "new" site . All I can say at the moment on topic is that Craig Breslow may be one of the unluckiest individuals I am aware of with his choices of personnel to fill gaps on the Red Sox or he is not real sharp unlike the pins stuck in his voodoo doll. Glad I was gone and missed the details of the slide down the razor of playoff chances.
  17. In the debate over the best OF alignment, and the nature of Fenway Park , it would seem best to have Rafaela in CF ( Assumes Story can stay upright at SS in '25) and Duran in RF, not LF. Now if the thinking is that JD does throw well enough for RF or that Abreu is a LH'ed arm then you are willing to sacrifice very small advantages for a less capable alignment. Abreu has knocked himself out to make plays in RF and credit to him for that. However, catching the ball on the fly precludes the need to throw well because if you have to leap for it, the runner on third is going to score anyway , unless 2 outs. Based on 2024, opponents will try to get as many LH pitchers on the hill as possible vs the Sox, further diminishing Abreu. That space belongs to Refsnyder anyway. I don't see Rob as a Fenway RF'er.
  18. We probably underrate the mental effect of a coast to coast trade situation on a player. Coming out of a losing team at LAA with no pressure to do well and straight into a crowd of Fenway fanatics might tighten anyone's shorts.
  19. Impressive game by the Road Warriors , including a bullpen contribution against some good hitters . The good news for DHam is he can hit with authority and fielding is a trainable skill. Setting up for the D'backs who are a semi-hot team. Friday night at Fenway-- what could go wrong ? Look at the season record. But I will get to see the Sox live for the first time in a couple years. maybe bring some Thunderluck !
  20. I do think Enmanuel Valdez had enough exposure and opportunity to show that he is very unlikely to be part of a long term plan. An emergency call-up due to injury next year? That is probably his ceiling . He is a good example of the talent/skill difference in all aspects of a player between AAA and MLB.
  21. Definitely why Cedanne was ahead of Raffy and all other Sox for RBI's early, as Devers started slowly.
  22. Raffy seems to go through these type periods 2-3 times a year where he cannot catch up to FB's. I'm sure his shoulder(s) is a factor and playing virtually every day , given his size could be a weardown factor.
  23. It' s meaningful that he is disruptive when he puts the ball in play and gets on base. He sets the table with being RISP often .
