  1. I guess Cora is going to let Kimbrel throw til his arm comes off
  2. f*** the 4 out relief job.
  3. Kimbrel just can't throw a FB for a strike tonight.
  4. Betts, Benintendi, JDM, Bogaerts are 1 for 15 with a walk tonight. Featuring 5 Ks amongst them
  5. Rewarded with a 4 pitch walk
  6. A little surprised at the early entry of Kimbrel
  7. Hardest hit ball was the DP. Good thing Bogie and Pearce combined to save the run that would have scored.
  8. And not one ball hit hard at all. Better come up with a DP
  9. A single away from blowing Sale's effort. Top of the lineup through Bogaerts is asleep
  10. Bottom of the lineup comes through. Good hitting by Nunez, Leon and Bradley's blast
  11. Under, maybe .650 , 105 wins
  12. Lots of wasted pitches in that inning but no score for Twins
  13. All this discussion about the status of the farm system and who built it or depleted it reminds of the sign on the side of the 14th fairway : " Free beer tomorrow" The Red Sox can only win the 2018 WS this year. The deep pockets and 6 month off season provide plenty of time and resources to worry about 2019-2020-2021. Play it to win now.
  14. Is Dave making these decisions or Alex Cora? I'm sure they are discussing it first and Dave is just reporting their conclusion.
  15. And maybe that will work out , although not an exciting proposition, as long as Cora is ready to pull him if the bleacher seat fans start noticing incoming or guys walking to first base. Cora , IMO, supports his guys taking the long view of the whole season and gives them plenty of chances to perform , some out of need and some to help develop them (Nunez-Devers). You can't say it has hurt anything with a notable lead over the Yankees and best record in MLB. But each game is one less to go and the need to keep winning day after day won't end until they clinch , then reprogram for playoffs which cannot be a 1 and done this year.
  16. I think the Eovaldi acquisition does make a real difference in the depth. Now he needs to perform to his talent level and prove it. Beeks was never going to be a go to guy under the pressure of a September pennant race, with big implications if you don't win the AL East. The Red Sox are not an aspiration team and neither is its fan base just looking for "getting a day in the playoff sun" . Been there, done that. This is a seriously talented team combining true veterans, developing stars and a couple less experienced players who can in fact win it all for the 4th time in the century's first 2 decades. Each of our starters will have to go out 10-12 more times this year. The race isn't over. 5.5 games ahead can disappear quickly if DD or Cora or the players take anything for granted over the next 8-9 weeks.
  17. Good observation. Hembree has been the more frequent first arm out of the pen for Cora and has been effective. One thing is that the pen should be well rested for the Twins series, so all hands on deck if needed Should Cora short cycle Price back on the mound in lieu of the 5th starter since he really only threw the equivalent of a good bullpen session in Baltimore ?
  18. Beware the Ides of October when the heat is really on and your next pitcher up is ............
  19. Forgetting Brandon Phillips as an unknown quantity right now, if you do go find another 2Bman, that will work in September with the expanded roster and a deeper bench including Holt and Nunez. But when the playoffs start, whether WC or ALDS, you will need to cut at least one of these guys from that group. Not likely, but Pedroia could find a miracle cure for his knee inflammation on Sept 1 out in the AZ desert with Carlos Castenada and the Yaqui Guardians leaving DD holding the bag with 4 2Bman. Who do you leave off the playoff roster in that scenario. Why do I think the thunder from above proclaims Nunez the odd man out ?
  20. With 59 games and the playoffs lurking, is the 2Bman team of Holt/Nunez going to affect you more than the absence of a decent LH reliever ? One set of players will shareplay all 59 games plus the playoff series (120 AB's++eachl), the LH pitcher may only see action for an inning in 25 games, 75 outs out of over 1500 needed from now to Sept 30. You have to know that Pedroia, aside from the monetary value of the contract, will try to play later this year, and for sure in ST 2019. Whether he can is TBD. I am guessing DD goes for the reliever and lives with HOLT/NUNEZ to the consternation of some here.
  21. Good, eliminate the Yankees at the earliest opportunity, if they win the WC play-in. Can't be reluctant to play them since you have to beat them sooner or later to get to the WS. However, if they lose the play-in WC game , no tears shed here.
  22. I bet the O's pregame shows are most often more upbeat than their postgame shows, last night being an exception when 4 HR's only scored 6 runs for the Sox. Don't stay up for tonight's O's postgame, it won't be so upbeat.
  23. Pomeranz as a pressure reliever is a questionable assignment for him. As a long reliever in some type of blowout game who cares, except why are the Sox getting blown out ? As Castillo's contract slowly matures and if he does hit at .300 plus with some power at AAA, there may be a day when another team takes a shot. Not likely for another full season
  24. Good luck with your health, and a GREAT comment ~
  25. He was hang dogging it in the dugout after being pulled. The guy just does not seem to have much confidence in being able to command the situation. His pitches reflect that as they rattle off the seats in LF.
