  1. Also note the head to head 3 game series at Fenway between these two teams. If the hypothetical race comes down to the end that tight, you can be assured that Severino, CC , along with Sale and Porcello will have pitched in that series, and not be available for the tie game or possibly the elimination game. So now we are looking at Erod and whoever is the Sox #5 guy for those two potential games. How deep is the Yankee rotation when arms and psyches are pretty tired. Boone and Cora will not admit it but if they haven't already considered this twist , they will be lying.
  2. One small matter is that your team can only win (or lose) the game you are playing, not tomorrows. Win todays and expect your next guy up to have the ability to win his. If the Sox let CC or Severino dominate their minds over their abilities , then shame on them.
  3. Given the odd quirks and big open spaces of Fenway's CF for 81 games a year, a superb fielding OF'er with speed and good instincts tyo the ball is a huge benefit fr this team. Betts in RF is the best of both worlds with ++ defense and a good bat. With a JDM type in LF carrying the big bat , as with TSW, Yaz, Rice, Manny over the decades, you can afford a lighter bat in CF. If you can get Fred Lynn then so much better. It would be interesting to get an honest poll of Red Sox pitchers on this topic. Would they want to keep JBJr or go for a lesser fielder who could hit .275+ ? With the FA markets possibly changing their trend , JBJr may not find a huge payday out there when the time comes. Certainly not a 7-10 year deal. He will be a mulyi-millionaire in any case, Boston extension or otherwise so don't lose too much sleep worrying about his feelings.
  4. I feel lucky to have seen him actually play live at Fenway in the mid 1950's to 1960, to be followed by Yaz, Rice, Manny in LF. Benintendi may get there one day but it's a tall ladder to climb when you play LF for Boston, good luck to Andrew .
  5. A LH'er with decent control, if not hyperspeed, would help
  6. A road sweep in the NL with no DH. Excellent series.
  7. He may get skinny again from ulcers as his managerial efforts go for naught with this bunch of cupcakes.
  8. As a pitcher Herrera is a true butcher
  9. No, Erod was highly economical today but had to PH for him to try and score the second run, which came on a ball 4 wild pitch
  10. Gotta love JBJr , did just enough to get the run in. Devers has significant problems sliding, in many instances, and may have hurt himself. Vazquez does nothing with his opportunity
  11. Nunez moves him over, so JBjr has the game in his hands
  12. Time for Devers to contribute here after his error and early game pickoff mistaake
  13. Had Betts and the hitters been a little better coordinated, we'd have a run now. JDM does his part , even though the HP umpire tried to take the bat out of his hand with poor calls.
  14. Mookie needs to steal a base here to get it going
  15. With 5 innings in the books and a sub 80 pitch count, Erod should get 6 and maybe into the 7th inning . But, need a few runs to get 30 games over .500 on July 4th, keeping the Yankees in the rear view mirror where objects appear larger than they are. Whicjhabout sums up the NYY's
  16. Devers tries to make a play on OH NO a surprise bunt by Severino, the catcher. I guess bunting is the one thing NL'ers just do more often than the HR happy AL.
  17. Pretty much a sleepwalk of a game with a good performance by Erod so far. Matt Grace , as a long reliever today is shutting our guys down about as fast. Looking for that one big inning breakthrough and expand the getaway day record to 17-4 over this season.
  18. How do the Nationals know that Bryce Harper will bobble on July 6, and post a notice about it to all fans? What if he's not in the lineup ?
  19. 3 very good posts today putting our country in a bit of perspective. I was at Arlington National last year for my father's inurnment and it is an beautiful final resting place for those that served. Hope to visit it again next year. Here's to a great day and good game.
  20. Who gets the win ? I say D. Price because he needs it for his rep. But Workman earns the W.
  21. It will be 8:05 in the PDT but that's ok, the win will be booked before lunch. Nats about to dive below .500 and become sellers in the great July roster swap.
  22. Hah, Cuevas did get talked to between innings and was directed to give up a tater
  23. What it means is you have few things that you must do, and you have all day to do them or whatever you want to do, so you are constantly running around doing stuff or watching the Red Sox
