  1. That would still get us first place in AL East, so not a bad outcome
  2. Here's a few opportunities: Robby Scott ; Marcus Walden and William Cuevas both near 30 yrs old. None of these 3 will make much difference to the Sox going to the playoffs. The only reason not to mention Carson Smith is because he does not count against the 40 man while on 60 day DL. Neither does Austin Maddox, but hopefully he could return next year.
  3. There will be a DL candidate available, I am sure, the way things are trending, plus the rosters expand for Sept.
  4. I guess Beard Lice Price has already been taken
  5. I think if anyone of the injured guys could pitch even 5 innings, they would be giving it a try after the break. If you don't see Pom, Wright, Johnson back in the mix during the next week, you will be seeing someone new shortly. Erod is a long issue as the ankle takes a pounding with each pitch.
  6. Pomeranz is sad, ever look at his facial expressions ? This is deep depression . Not to mention exactly what happened with Porcello over the weekend. Was that a road bump or full truck dump ?
  7. If a pitchoff between Kelly and Barnes was to be in the offing for the closer successor to Kimbrel, the odds would favor slitting your wrists now and not having to watch either of them. Far too inconsistent to be a closer.
  8. That's what the All-Star game is about, right?
  9. Back to the tie, if the Yankees lose just one of the 3 game differential in games played, and otherwise the Sox and Yankees have the same record in the short second half up to the 3 games at Fenway concluding the season in September, that series will be irrelevant to the Sox and they can structure the starting rotation for the ALDS to suit themselves. The fact that the Sox starting rotation may be looking like Chris Sale and some corned beef behind him notwithstanding, the situation is currently looking tough with more starters on the DL than available for being on the bump.
  10. Are the 4 Hope brothers also LH'ers?
  11. With Rodriguez's injury being " serious" even without surgery, DD will be forced to chase down a veteran starter who can eat some innings and hold the fort through July , August and September. I now think the LH reliever and a RH starter outweigh any concerns about a second baseman, particulalry if Phillips shows any life working his way back up. This was dscussed a few weeks ago and some thought pursuing another starter was a non-starter. Not so.
  12. New rant on MLB's winningest team to date, and likely for the regular season---- Does anyone really expect to win in the playoffs and possibly Series with this bullpen featuring Hembree, Workman, Kelly, Barnes and no LH'er, outside of plug-in Robby Scott? Thornburg is just another unknown quantity at this stage. Obviously not calling out Kimbrel, but you have to be holding a lead to effectively use your closer in ONE 3 out inning. I'm leaving out Wright, Johnson, Pomeranz because no one knows for sure when they'll be ready to go, and Velazquez is your 5th starter . Matt Barnes 27 pitch s*** show last night in a tight game just underscores how this pen's good stats disguise their inconsistency. Cora keeps running them out there from necessity, but you truly don't know what you will get for results. Poor command at times from all, occasional brilliance and often dodging bullets just in time. I will grant, so far, so good in terms of wins. September's schedule and drive to win the AL East will be the test and these guys are worrisome. I'm sure Dave D. is working on it , including getting a LH'er .
  13. If Benintendi is in fact on a few days bereavement leave this short bench just got shorter and almost forces Pearce to play. Consider sending one of the AAAA pitchers back to Pawsox and bring Sam Travis or other up for these 3 games.
  14. You got that right. Price is the unlovable one
  15. No Kimbrel tonight, so the other guys better have their A game ready. Workman is working
  16. It would be nice if Price can limit the 7th inning damage to just that HR by Morales
  17. Price, in turn, has done his part since giving up the obligatory HR in the first. Maybe showing something finally. Happ's 4 th inning with his own sloppiness, the play at second and Smoak's not quite a catch, and 46 pitches, pays him back for the hit on Pearce. That was a cheap shot no doubt. Betting that it is Happ, not Pearce , who is/was a s*** in the Toronto clubhouse where they are playing for nothing ever since about May 1st.
  18. That was a huge break . He almost bare handed the ball out of his mitt.
  19. When the bottom of the lineup contributes, it all goes right
  20. Happ looks like a dead man walking, even before the slam. Not a handsome dude
  21. Don't get too excited, you have Price on the mound for you
  22. How does Betts miss that pitch ?
  23. Credit patience by JBJr not chasing Happ's trash. Now Mookie needs the big fly over the Monster
