  1. It's always interesting to see how a somewhat arbitrary round number like 100 becomes the keystone for a starting pitcher. Maybe it's equivalent for a reliever is 20 pitches per 3 outs. I'm sure the team data analysts have individual numbers based on past performance for each pitcher and his relative effectiveness, as the overall count goes higher . Observationally, it seems if you can get a pitcher over 25 pitches in any one inning, good things happen on the scoreboard for the offense. The other thing about the 100 pitch milestone is that the starter's pregame routine includes a long toss sequence, 25-30 bullpen pitches, and 8 warm ups from the mound each inning. Of course, the warmups aren't under full stress, but a starter who goes 6 full innings has probably thrown 100 pitches at full effort, and another 100 at 80-90% effort including the 120'-130' long toss session.
  2. I'm sure many will be watching to see how Boone handles Sanchez's lack of effort which is far more egregious than Dever's lack of situational awareness , as compared to Cora's handling of Dever's lack of situational awareness which can be overcome. Sanchez's actions are not likely to be overcome with his teammates. maybe he knows he is on the trading block . Dever's definitely needs to feel Cora's bite for a very bad brain lapse in a key situation. He may be 21 but needs to wake up if he is to get better.
  3. That is actually pretty amazing stuff over a 4 game set or an any game set. Porcello shows that his hiccup was a one-timer. Although it may get rained on, Pomeranz will try to work his way back tomorrow. Nice to have a set vs the Birds to get your wanderers back in game shape.
  4. 6 up on NYY is priceless at this stage but still a lot to play including head to head. I hope Severino/Sanchez and the rest of that clubhouse eat each other up in an cannabalistic end game. Why do I think they will still be around in September making some noise ? Because I saw Mike Torrez crush Dent's foot only to give it up momentarily later. Followed by Yaz fouling out to Nettles with MoB. Once a Sox fan, always a Sox fan
  5. That stuff will get you a bench seat in the dugout for the next game or two or a bus ride to Paw-town. Not really excusable to not know the out count
  6. Ok, I admit blindness, but what did happen on that sac fly (not) by Betts ??
  7. Las time a RS batter dropped a fair ball bunt??
  8. Yankees left the bases loaded to lose again
  9. Much agreed. Enjoy the game and the individual takes on it. No comments on relief pitchers
  10. You seem to have missed a lot of sarcasm along the way too , Ace
  11. Alvarado walks Judge for 2 on and no outs with Gregorius up, followed by Stanton. LOL. TB
  12. Why would you do that.? It was a simple comment about how 2 inexperienced guys are doing well in a small sample.
  13. Gardner, Judge, gregorius and Stanton up in the 9th for NYY. Interesting challenge for TB
  14. In small samples Brasier and Poyner ( back in AAA) have been the best RS relievers (ranked by ERA) ahead of Kimbrel
  15. Is Brasier the Austin Maddox of 2018. Unheralded, but very effective so far.
  16. Yankees fail in the 8th, 3 outs to go.
  17. Why does Bradley have a key role on this team ?? Because of catches like that
  18. Nice of Betts to sacrifice himself trying to steal (or Hit/run) 2nd in order to move the game along. BTW, for those concerned, his 2 out base empty single was a mistake
  19. Rays leave both runners in position and find a way to give the NYY'ers a 3 outs with no advancement.
  20. Actually Rays in position to add runs with 2 on, no outs
  21. Whether it's the rain or the O's , it's another shutout potential and worth preserving against a weak opponent
  22. Devers does show that he can make the plays required at 3rd , so consistency seems to be the issue
  23. Maybe the Sox are just trying to get 5 in the books quickly, and perhaps the crew chief will declare the game over in the next rain delay , but our top 3 hitters are suffering right now. Maybe the rest of the lineup too, except for Moreland's blast
  24. When you see that the Rays are actually a game over .500 in the year the Sox and NYY are set for 100+ wins, the Rays have done all they could which is the sign of a winner.
