  1. How do you figure this version of the Sox to be 9 over in away games, and 1 under .500 at Fenway. What's the correlation ?
  2. SS, that's tu-tu much knowledge
  3. Enjoying a family function so just checked the score. The 16 runs are much appreciated. Porcello's performance, almost as bad as Price's last night. 11 hits, including 3 HR's , 6 runs in 5 innings on 99 pitches. Good luck looking for that next contract , Rick
  4. Due to his contractual options only 3 or 4 current AL contenders would give much for JDM. I would say Twins, Guardians, Oakland and maybe Texas at 1:100 chance. These are all teams competing with Boston for the WC, along with the Rays. It would be ultimate irony to move JD to a team who then beats you out of the #2 WC on September 30 by a game. I don't think he's moving. And Mookie is getting hot, so he's not going yet. Calling Mr. Benintendi
  5. Some of our guys will speculate that any favorable stat attributed to Beni is a product of NESN and the Red Sox PR department bearing no resemblance to action on the field.
  6. Unless JDM makes some sort of a big run in August/September , which would be welcome, I think he will not opt out of 2020 contract and be back in Boston, for better or worse. No other team would pay him a big premium off this season to date. I think we have JD Dh'ing next year. Hopefully he stays the hell out of RF.
  7. 1 for 18 for your 1-5 sluggers tonight. What else do you need to know except that Ryan Weber, nice guy that he is , is pitching for a team that supposedly is trying for a WC slot with about 65 games to go. If that by itself is not pathetic, then how about Price's show up tonight ? Yes, the Sox can take the next 2 and be 4 for 6 vs Jays (worst hitting club in MLB) and O's (worst overall club in MLB) except that after acquiring the #2 pitcher on the O's who loses, the #1 (Means) beats you with his low rent guys. Who is fooling who ?
  8. It needs to be reset this off season, as does the Betts calculation . the Red Sox could easily be in flux for the next 2 or 3 seasons depending on some contract resolutions, including JDM's options One unique situation is that the aging and less effective starting rotation of Price, Sale and Eovaldi (all under multi-year contracts) could sink this team for multi-years. Ed Rodriguez will only get more expensive as he goes through his arb years and he may be your ACE. Picture the Sox minus JBJr, JDM, Moreland, with Price, Sale and Eovaldi as your primary starters. Forget the BP, it is a year to year thing.
  9. Fully agree, especially since you can take the position that this season is going nowhere and save the WC #2 happy ******** . JDM is not just having an off season, he is not going to solve significant run production issues in upcoming seasons batting like this. The reset was in play all along this season, just no one including JH, DD nor AC anticipated it the way some fans did.
  10. Price, Brewer and Grillman Weber combined for one of the absolute worst games of the year. WTF is wrong with these guys ??? One game following a shutout victory that might have ignited a run towards a WC position these pukes lose it big time. The hitters quit also raising no dust against a competent pitcher in Means. very sad, vary weak, just another POS from the 2019 Red Sox
  11. Sandy is a hitter now, not a catcher so there is that.
  12. I like your comments and at least call a fraud a fraud, like Price tonight. Some think we should be all supportive in every case, but these players get extreme amounts of money to play a game that most on here know a fair amount about from playing it in earlier years at several levels. Hold them to account as if you were the manager, and pat them on the back when they play to win.
  13. Reminds me of a girlfriend back in college who mused. "My ass is hotter than Georgia asphalt in the summer" The temp was about 85, but a little humid.
  14. FGS, If OB doesn't have K totals per inning and game, he would have nothing to talk about.
  15. Price will probably blow off on a reporter or two and blame Eckersley for messing up his mind.
  16. Max, quit picking on Leon. He calls the pitches. Price only throws it up there. Sandy is the bad guy and probably Swihart too.
  17. 2 out, 2 strike pitch from your next best. Over 20 pitches in the first. Another wonderful start after Sale's gem
  18. F'ing Loser Lester can't make a throw Little Leaguers do. Oh, he used to play for us ? He doesn't need to throw to first, just K them all
  19. We are virtually assured Chavis will be a player on the 2020 Red Sox , probably at 1B . Moreland's eventual return may allow MC to get some time off, and keep Mitch whole for 2 months but Chavis needs to be learning at the MLB level and be graded accordingly. He could always be a piece in a bigger trade but I think he's here for the duration for multiple reason, not the least of which is control/cost.
  20. What is possibly more amazing, and directly related to the high pitch counts is the lack of an "out" pitch after getting 2 strikes and/or 2 outs in the inning. Aside from Sale's downbreaking slider , when it is on, I don't think any starter has a killer pitch to go to. And please stop with the 0-2 high FB that is a foot or more too high. The batter expects it , so throw a low strike on the outer corner to induce a weak bouncer.
  21. There will need to be some patience as Nate gets into this closer role. Control was never his strongest suit, so he may walk or HBP someone in a key situation. But with a one inning role , he can go out confidently and bring his heater for 20 pitches and let it fly, making a curve/slider and change up very effective. His 8 innings vs the Dodgers in the WS shows you may get 2+ innings from him to get the win. No one else in the pen brings that endurance to the table, although Workman did get more than an inning in this week. I'd give Eovaldi 4 appearances before deciding if he is the answer to closing games strongly. Hope he gets the opportunities to show his stuff before the deadline.
  22. In mookie's comments on his July turnaround, which has been great, he himself said that everything he had tried earlier in the season to adjust were the wrong things. So it tells me one thing or another. Cora and the coaches couldn't figure out where Mookie was going wrong, or they were coaching him correctly but the MVP didn't listen and adapt. For a big time trade deadline improvement, DD should trade Brasier to the Dodgers for JDM's hitting guru coach.
  23. After Baltimore, which should be a sweep along with Eovaldi's return in a new role, there are the 14 TBR/NYY games that will reshape this inconsistent season. If the Sox get 9-5 from the Rays and Yanks, then the Wild Card will be looking more realistic. 7-7 or less will be treading water or near drowning.
  24. Combine a highly effective 7 inning Sale with a miracle closer named Eovaldi and it could get interesting, especially if Mookie's current trend is real and continues. The hitting lineup finally makes sense with Betts-Devers-Bogaerts. JDM improving would be a huge add. Scoring first and running up pitch counts on the other team has worked before. One concern is that a .667 winning % to season's end results in 96 wins, probably a high water mark for this team currently at a .546 mark. That might make the WC or just miss.
