  1. I will make one comment using the Velazquez 9th inning from Tuesday night's epic 17 innings. Several have complimented Hector for his 4 innings of effective work after the Kepler leadoff HR. Hector's one and ONLY job was to get 3 outs before the Twins scored. No matter what happened afterwards, he failed and it eventually resulted in long drawn out loss, achieving nothing but adding more innings to the rest of the Pen, and putting himself back on the IL . A moral victory ? Try getting to the playoffs on moral victories. There will be more blown saves, and L's from the BP over the course of the season. That's baseball. But it is not necessarily a noteworthy achievement.
  2. A meaningful stat since it is the only one that has a determination on post season play. It may indirectly say something else about starters vs. Relievers : Starters lose when they surrender more runs than the offense generates , and the offense never recovers the deficit . Relievers win when they are pitching during a game where the starter goes less than 5, or a tie game is salvaged for a win, or when the offense overcomes a deficit left by the starter ( or prior reliever). If I knew nothing (often the case) other than the W-L record, I would be somewhat suspect of the offenses ability to score before the 5th inning, and that the offense can usually score on the opponents bullpen. Finally, once the Sox are ahead, the pen "wins" game at a .678 clip. Sound familiar ? .678 x 162=110 wins, shades of 2018's win total. Not truly relevant but interesting coincidence.
  3. 12 pitches for a 3 out effort by Walden.
  4. Chase Field is a nice park. Watched Colten Brewer blow a save back in April while there as the opening 11 game road trip ended.
  5. Kind of tough to say but if Pedey is watching Holt, his knee is probably aching. Holt has done this before for a stretch and then gone IL with an unpredictable injury
  6. Gave up a single on the first pitch, DP on the second and the third guy retired in the on deck circle. Ump called him ineligible. Inning done
  7. 2 of 3 from the winningest team in the AL on their field, and having every chance to sweep them . That should be a good clue towards the next 6 games, although Boston has not gone nuts on other teams at Fenway
  8. Only about 55% strikes. Cannot pitch to a spot.
  9. A;ways one of my points. A Starter on a 20 pitch pace is good for about 5 innings, helping no one. It may not matter but Barnes rarely is efficient, same for Workman. Limits them to one inning and may not be ready the next day.
  10. Bogaerts telling Nunez, go sit on a tack, Nunie. I got this
  11. If you wonder why Matt barnes draws some SMH's, it may have to do with walking guys with a 9-4 lead, using up his arm pointlessly when he can't throw a FB strike. You can love him, but not like his pitching.
  12. Now, even a GS leaves Minnie a little short.
  13. Fairly amazing comeback within the game. Erod always tantalizes with what if, but has trouble getting it going. Tonight he came around nicely, and got big support.
  14. Very true. And I do believe he thinks he had a pass for 2019 for winning the WS and the team budget was pretty much capped anyway. I'm sure he thought he had a 100 wins virtually guaranteed.
  15. When your rotation needs to include Velazquez, Wright or Johnson, you need to keep looking.
  16. Marcus Stroman at Toronto will be available
  17. Begins with N, ends with Z as in Snooz (e)
  18. Holt has been amazing recently once again. And he's getting regular playing time from Alex.
  19. Now Devers is twinged or worse. Thank goodness we have Cora's main man
  20. No but a lot of players from south of the U.S. are dumber than rocks.
  21. He has become inexplicable with his chasing and almost 50% K rate over the last week.
  22. Perhaps for Pawtucket. he really is not worth investing a lot more time in his development. I think he is probably weak minded and undereducated. Plus people don't like him.
  23. Just because you are right doesn't.... Wait, you got this one correct my friend
  24. You can work with that line, SS.
  25. And AC , out of necessity, will ride this untalented pitcher a long ways, because it's still early, you know. Not even to the halfway mark yet
